So basically you skipped all quest text and scenes?

Pretty much, I couldn't wait to finish Praetorium so I could explore and do other things :) I gotta catch up on my MSQ, it's still on 2.0 actually
Edda is only significant if you have done Tam Tara Hard mode.
Actually Enkido isn't a chicken. The chicken is a bird Gilgamesh dyed green and kept as a pet to keep himself company. The real Enkido is in the second Gilgamesh fight (sounds like you've only don't the first one).
You wouldn't know who Iceheart is if you haven't done any story beyond 2.0. She appears in patch 2.4.
Again, I don't have an issue with people who aren't interested in the story. That's find as long as I can enjoy the story as it is which the current structure allows.
I don't see why we need to unlock stuff. Coil and EXs are optional and don't need to be unlocked. Just leave them uncapped. The expansion is right around the corner. If anything, SE could just make it a requirement to complete 2.0 down the line to enter future expansion (and maybe Heavensward) down the line. People preach about unlocking content for others when half of them probably don't even bother to help in assisting others. Easy way to solve people being left behind is to lock everyone behind a barrier when story comes up. Or they can continue the way they have it now. Story in beginning and story at end. You already know SE is gonna make us do 2.0 - 2.55 content. This is not gonna change. A lot of the dungeons are optional and queue times aren't even bad. It's just your server. I can queue in just about anything as a dps on my server
As a raider you don't unlock Hildibrand trials and dungeons. You unlock Coil.

I think the story is rubbish, does that mean I need to leave too?
I don't think a lot of people play this game for the story ONLY, you see this game has other things like battles, and crafting, and games in gold saucer.
if this was a single player game I wouldn't play it because I play rpgs for their stories. But MMOrpgs has a lot more to offer so the story is just a time sink to me.
I don't think people play this game only for story but there are quite a few for who the story is very important and can be more important than aspects of gameplay, crafting and games in the gold saucer. Different people get different things out of it. I know while I do enjoy the other aspects of this game, if its story hadn't hooked me I probably would be a lot less interested in it.
Then what IS good storytelling?
Please provide examples.
Blanket statements like this are irritating, because the story of FFXIV is actually quite engaging and well-written...
But it's not for everyone.
FFXIV's story lacks any of the elements that would make it objectively bad (such as excessive spelling and grammar errors, gaping plotholes, mary sues, and the like) so if you feel it's bad, it's your opinion.
I'm not sayin there arent people who prefers the story to other parts of the game. It was more of a reply to the comment "Just saying if you think this games story is mediocre. Then why even play this game to begin with" assuming people only play mmorpgs for the story
