I liked that he wasn't brooding and didn't start out as a selfish a-hole, like Cloud and Squall. He actually helped people, even though he was a thief/conspirator in a kidnapping, because he was a genuinely good guy, versus Cloud, who was being paid by AVALANCHE and had to see some sh*t before shaping up, and Squall, who was an anti-social child-soldier-for-hire with abandonment issues. (Not to say that I don't like Cloud or Squall but they were both a-holes.)

Cloud...I think the first few minutes of the game, yeah, but consider where you start the game...in Midgar slums, where everyone is a shady a-hole. He's well-tempered to majority of the characters in the game. At least, he's waaaay nicer to Yuffie than i'd have ever been. I'd have stolen all my stuff back and beat her ass.

Squall on the other hand was very much an a-hole. But, that's really just part of his character. But FF8 actually shares Squall's thoughtstream with the player, something I can't recall any other FF title doing, so you get specifics behind his a-holeness, which come full circle over the course of the game in a really interesting way. I hold FF8 in high regard specfically for making me hate a character so much, before actually having empathy for him.

That's what made it so great. The game didn't have to be silly and go out of its way to explain Spira to the player...because the main character was a total noob. I never understand why people described Tidus as "whiny" when the stuff that happened to him happened to him...and he rolled with the punches like a champ...AND takes the hot girl in the process.

Contrast with FF13, where the game makes nnnnooooooooooooo attempt to ensure the player knows what the hell its talking about...or ever makes us actually care. By the time i got to the end of FFXIII, I honestly just didn't care. "Save cocoon? Oh, you mean the a-holes that's literally been trying to kill me the whole game??"

I wouldn't give up hope, Yoshi P want this game to be a theme park, I think at one point or another every FF game will get a nod.

Tidus = whiny has always baffled me. Maybe the very beginning when he's completely clueless, but the handful of occasions I can think of where I'd classify him as "whiny" he's more than justified to be. He's very emotionally open for an FF protagonist, but it never annoyed me. In fact it's the reason he left such an impression on Spira, his honest and matter-of-fact attitude to their rigid ways was why things played out the way they did.

Agreed. XIII was a huge angst pit in a world that was literally like a series of hallways.
At least it made more sense then XIII-2 or 3... >3>

I want more! I want other SE franchises/series/titles represented too, like the Chrono series, Threads of Fate, Radiata Story, Star Ocean, the works! :D

Cloud wasn't like that when you played Crisis Core...I think.
Zidane is the first FF male/main that had a real sunny personality...a fun one. He turned the tides with all the either
emo, serious, gloom and doom attitudes like Cloud and Squall, the rest had no personality.
A very fun character and game, he has one of my fave outfits, Zidane I mean.
Tidus was a hit or miss lol.

You know, if it happened I wouldn't be suprised. I mean there's already a cross game event with Dragon Quest, and Theaterythem just got Chrono Trigger, and Saga tunes. Maybe when they introduce the Samurai class, the relic will be the almighty RAINBOW sword lol.
