Yes, I've used Player Search for legitimate reasons. And I can tell you the odds of finding a new character within a half second of them entering the introductory cut-scene via the player search tool is next to nil.

The sound effect for the tell played before the video even faded into view. And that's happened more than once on my new characters.

If you're in a loading screen, you're technically in the game and findable.
They're using scripts to access the UI faster than you could do by hand, most likely.

I've only ever legitimately had to use the player search one time--and that was to find a person I knew was already in the game by their player name so I could friend them.
I'm sure there is a better way to accomplish that.

Using bots as a reason to allow open pvp does not work because you would have to use position hacking yourself to get in range of them, making you part of the problem too.

I see nothing wrong with this suggestion at all. It is neither insane, nor impractical. I'll go one better. Make the end of each class/job quest require a player interaction that is impossible to script for a bot. Some kind of challenge/response that requires a player to be present to answer. It could easily be written into the text of the quests, so it would not feel or appear out of place.

Personally I'd like to see them apply some kind of parsing on the coordinates a player can move to. It should not be impossible for their DB to filter incoming requests from the game client by sanity checking the origin/destination coordinates, as well as preventing positions beneath the surface geometry.

Hi,

May I suggest (or re-suggest) an in-game bounty on bots.
Report bot, when the bot owner's account is deleted,
earn a reward.

I just want to get a "bounty" suggestion on the table
without getting into the weeds on how to do it. If the game
developers and game masters ever become receptive to this suggestion,
then implementation should be discussed.
