Heavensward jobs! yay...no base class? wth..

In my opinion, they should get rid of classes already and just put the jobs, we are pretty far from what the armoury system of the original dev team had in mind, so maybe they can give the job stone at the same level so you can unlock the ultimate job skills, cross class can keep the same not letting you get those special last skills. So in short if you think of it we're talking about the same stuff we have, but we don't need to call someone a pugilist now, just monk.

I don't care what they do. BUT, if everyone continues to be just like everyone else (glamours withstanding) it will get freakin' boooriiing man.

The only real chance this game had of establishing horizontal build progression was with the cross-class system...now they're just going to remove it? The game is already vanilla enough in this regard. It's REALLY time to start letting people create more unique builds. They don't have to be so elaborate you can't even recognize them, but c'mon man.:( With that said they could do a lot more with the attribute points, traits, materia, or a combination of them.

I don't want a game where: "Hello this is a Mario, this is a Luigi, and this is a Bowser".
I want a little more of "Hello, this is a Marowsergi! HE'S FEARSOME!!" :eek:

I made a post on something similar to this earlier, but in terms of X-class skills going to the wayside I think something like this could occur with our current jobs:

It's not about removing, it's about phasing them out so that the current structure remains. Like imagine if SE gave lancer a new skill to replace invigorate, replaced pld's provoke, and thm a new skill to replace swift cast. Then they gave each DoW invigorate, Tanks Provoke, and DoM swift cast. Later on we get a replacement job crystal that completely remove all the cross class abilities and grants us more job skills, more of our main stat/vit, and possibly bonus traits. See where this is going?

I know what you mean, I loved 1.0 system, was with lots of flaws but the level of personalization was awesome, I don't think that cross class will disappear, just means that maybe old jobs like the ones we have atm wont be able to grab skills from the new ones because this jobs are already balanced, but new jobs will be able to grab skills from old classes.

That's what sounds logic for me.

Pretty sure the jobs that already have base classes are keeping them, and that the jobs that use cross-class skills will still be using them. Nothing from 2.x will change.

3.0 might very well mean that yeah, the new jobs don't have the ability to use cross-class skill but you know what? They won't need to, as long as they instead obtain more abilities than previous classes/jobs could singularly. This is a good thing.

Some folks view having to level up a class/job they aren't that interested in to gain a skill they will need to play the class/job they really want to play as a turn off. Personally, I didn't mind this at all but I also played FFXI where that was what you did. I also played a little bit of 1.0 where you could mix/match skills as you pleased as long as you had leveled the class they belonged to high enough to obtain them. Classes in ARR are basically a hold-over to this skill swapping system. XI and XIV are really the only mmos that actually let you use abilities from completely different classes. (Sure there are mmos with somewhat similar ideas, but completely different implementations)

Considering Yoshi P likes to use WoW as his go-to example of what XIV should be like, we can expect new jobs to just be singular in purpose. Though perhaps in the future jobs could have varying roles, but.. I'm getting ahead of myself. For now, not having base classes and a cross-class system on new Jobs can be a good thing if the jobs themselves have more abilities and skills relevant to their style to make up for the additional cross-class skills they would get with the old system.

Unless you have proof yourself that GLA, THA, ACN, ARC, CNJ, MAR, PUG, ROG, and LNC are going to be removed in 3.0 then you don't have the right to insult someone for saying these 9 classes will still remain in 3.0.

As of now majority of people are assuming these 9 classes may be removed because the three new jobs don't have their own Classes. However, this is not the only possible outcome and their reason behind not having their own classes.

For starters the 9 classes can remain in FF14ARR to serve as the starting classes.

another is that these 9 classes may become the main source of cross-skills for all Jobs in the future which may lead to the Classless Jobs to not have their own X-Skills but must gain X-Skills from these 9 classes.

third is that if they do remove these 9 classes they will have to rework all Job storyline to fit into why bunch of adventurers can become the Azure Dragoon, Monk, Paladin, Warrior, Bard, Scholar, Summoner and etc. at lvl 1 when lore wise the Player character is the 1st adventurer to become these Jobs, master them, and is known to be the 1st outsider to actually become one.

Classes are virtually redundant at this point. They did not turn out to be all that better for solo play as they said they would be.

There's no way they could remove base classes without horribly gutting the storylines in the process. There is still a very clear distinction between Rogue and Ninja.

I think this is intentional, they added Rogue with cross class skills, but the way they've got things set up, you can't use any of them on any of the existing jobs. This way they can add new jobs without having to worry about adding cross class skills back into the main classes, possibly upsetting any existing balance. It also means you don't *have* to level up any of the new jobs for cross class skills if you don't want to.

I agree that this will be annoying. Perhaps some of the newer jobs will get more abilities sooner than later to make up for this.




I also I hope they rework the cross class system a bit. For instance I find it very strange that ROG/NIN doesn't cross class from ARC, which has a number of abilities that seem more appropriate to NIN than any other class (ie: Hawk's Eye). Also there are a number of cross class abilities that no jobs can actually use (straight shot and venomous bite from ARC) or are completely useless to every other class/job that can use it (Ruin from ACN).

Exactly. But that's due to the content not the cross-class system design. Take Archer for instance. I love doing open world stuff with my archer. I can flash, foresight, blood for blood, I have 3 DoTs, and can even parry lol xD.

I feel pretty indestructible as an archer in open world, so I would disagree with Gramul to a point. I will however agree 100% that it is overly redundant at this point (cuz lmao open world)....which makes me cry alone at night sometimes. :(
