The problem with games with good combat system is that they usually fail in every other way. Their developers probably thought that good combat system is enough to save a game, I do not think so and I will rather play game with simple combat system like in FFXIV. :))
The thing you are asking for is in my opinion impossible without remaking whole combat system and that is not going to happen. Ever.
Please no more skillchains and magic bursts please. They worked in a game where the entire build-up for a DPS was their one weaponskill they did every minute. They would be terrible in a game that has set rotations for each optimal DPS for each class.
Also you were basically always doing distortion because you were basically always fighting crabs. I'll never understand how people look back fondly on that system.
To be fair. The dev team had to make due with what resources they had.
I would not be surorised if we got a better battle system in say 4.0.
As to do so they would need to gut the current engine, build a new one, & then install it...and finally tweek every aspect of the game to reflect that.
Thats years of work...
You aren't the only person. The fights are quick enough, it does what it's supposed to do, etc.
It's a figure of speech. That's why it was in italics. Never played GoW. Not trying to offend the game or it's players.

The Ratchet and Clank series also comes to mind. Can you technically customize Ratchet a little bit? Sure. Is your Ratchet going to be that much different if at all different from your friend's Ratchet? No.
It just feels like they're playing it a little too safe with character customization. I appreciate how well each class is balanced, but I'm sure we can all agree they could add a little variety and flavor. It wouldn't be that hard.
I know the class system probably isn't the greatest thing in the world, but with a little TLC it could be pretty good. It's like the class system is just sitting there asking us, "when will we get a turn meng?"
Given the latency/routing problems the game has, and how enemies will buffer auto-attacks into their specials so you don't see them at all, it'd be nigh impossible for an active blocking system to be implemented that would benefit the playerbase.
