Hurray! Finally saved up 6mil for my personal house!

I'll never understand how people will pick the single most populated server in a game, which in this case is Balmung, and then complain when there are more people competing for scarce resources. It's been like this on every MMO ever made since forever. If it matters that much to you, there are many other servers which have S plots available.

Servers have limited capacities. There are a lot of servers. People all try to crowd onto one server and ignore the 30 other servers, that's not Squenix's problem. Balmung players complain about the housing, they complain about how they can't create new characters because it's full, they complain about login queues. Hey guys, did you know that it's because BALMUNG IS FULL? They can't design the game to cater to one server and ignore the others, maybe it's time to accept that BALMUNG IS FULL.

Well, if 50 Culinarian isn't basic, I don't even know what is anymore... Which part is hard, exactly?

Then I'd recommend looking up Levequest guides for leveling crafts, because they absolutely trivialized leveling all crafts. Does it take time to level them? Sure, but it's hardly "nowhere near basic". It's incredibly basic... Melds aren't even required for basic crafting. My most basic form (not Culinarian, but whatever) of making money is this;

Spend ~30 minutes farming up Black Alumen.
Craft a set of <i50 crafting gear.
Set my character to auto-craft Raptor Leather in Mor Dhona forever.
Turn Raptor Leather in at Levequest for; Gil, more Raptor Skins, Earth Shards, more Gil.

What does this net me? More Raptor Skins than I started with. Less Earth Shards (a deficit I have my Retainer take care of). A fair amount of Gil towards the Gillionaire achievement. And a fair amount of Gils worth in crafting materia.

After I've got the Alumen and made the set, I don't even need to pay attention to the game to hit a bleedin' macro. I don't need any meld investment in my crafters to make the set. And it churns out Gil... Level your crafts people, it's simple and easily the best investment you can make in this game...

I think they may be referring to the time/grind investement to get culinarian to 50, rather than the actual difficulty of making things at that level?

My character is from the server merge of Fabul to Balmung, pre-ARR. Are you suggesting it is my fault for not knowing that in the future SE couldn't meet the demands of a server.. because they chose a static system?

Please begin to move to an instance SE, like other games have done. Yes it will take a while to develop a completely new system, that's fine- but this current static system is ... awkward, imo. Servers that only need a few have many (all are also depreciating) and servers that need many have none left. If a FC wants to be in a network with another I suppose they can create uniquely tied lands or something (like AoC..? (careful to reference the game.. lol)) through the alliance system they spoke of once or twice and left.

Besides I fancy the system that would let me make a chocobo farm (our current chocobo stables are up to chocobo factory farm standards, poor chocos someone call PETA), the towers they spoke of before the beginning of housing, and similar larger scale features - like Wild Star and other instanced based housing systems.

Oh i don't completely disagree with your sentiment. I'm a crafter myself.

However, in relation to teh OP, not everyone wants to craft their life away, nor is everyone great at playing the market board/wants to camp the market board to constantly watch for undercutting (i'm an example of the formers). My company has saved about 4 million with 4 players doing not too much though, so i know what you mean by money being easy enough to get at.

CUL 50 on its own is pretty basic but the amount of effort put into gearing up and melding, as well as getting all the necessary cross-class skills to make '500k for 30minutes' work' possible isn't exactly basic.

I still think they should have provided Personal Apartments for players that don't want too fancy Housing for their Characters or could not afford the Personal Housing quite yet.

They create a Vanity system designed for fun but it is limited by the Server Population (Greater the population the more Demand in the Server), room for housing (Housing is limited currently by how many players can own a house per server), and the Demand in the Server (basic economic Supply and Demand).

I suppose this is just semantics, but I still wouldn't call getting Culinarian to this level complex. Is it an investment? Absolutely, a damn fine investment, but complex? Not by a long shot. "Do these Levequests", "Copy these melds", "Copy this macro", it's very basic... The issue is whether one is willing to put the effort into crafting to get to this level (and even that isn't too hard, though the recent spike in materia prices muddle things somewhat), if someone loathes crafting to the point where they'd willingly go "I don't want to make mad Gil by hitting a macro and watching a movie", then that's their prerogative I suppose.

I really dislike that housing has a finite supply, that does not vary by server population.

Yes, in the real life real estate market, some places are "hot" while others are not, due to the caliber of the neighborhood and the convenience of the location. However, this is not RL. The Goblet of Zalera is the same thing as the Goblet of Balmung. No one is going to steal your Chocobo or rob you in the Zalera Goblet, and the Balmung Goblet is not within closer commuting distance of Ul'dah. :p

And besides, this is housing in a game for fun. I don't want to deal with things like home repairs (a tree fell on your roof, that will be 150K gil) or homeowners associations (your house must be painted beige, tan, or light terracotta) anymore than I want to deal with a "hot" housing market.

Person who does not start to work on making gil until well after housing is released is surprised that all the plots are gone and taken by people who wanted a house and started working on making gil when housing was announced.
