after some sluething on the ol'internet I looks like it's a reaction between the tannins in the wine, iron of the pan, garlic, and certain species of clams/scallops. huh...maybe I should have done that first.

Actually, I think it's simply because the end of the article is talking about tobacco. Its advertizement and selling being restricted to 18+ in a lot of countries, I think that's why there is an age limitation (the site is a lot about pipes too apparently). That or they really over exaggerated the impact of "squid soup" in people's mind. ;D
