It's not like you cant solo B's. But at 5 seals per kill, with long kill times, let alone any group that shows up during it will try and reset it, it's just not worth the hassle.
As much of a soloist i am myself, it's just not viable to hunt these by yourself. A hunting linkshell gives you second hand, if not third hand, information, meaning anything you can fight (B) will be dead long before you even arive to get any contribution. And by yourself, your chances of finding anything are drastically reduced.
As much as it pains me, Party Finder or Shouts are the only way to go once you wish to partake in the hunts.
Funny I wasn't doing a hunt today and was heading to the second town of in western thanalan bump into that cockatrice NM on accident I wasn't paying attention grabbed my soda and look back and I am dead on ground.
then I got raised by a hunt team and decided to get some pay back.
YOu dont need friends, but at least should form a Hunting Group, because it is easier to get full reward of it. (even if you just assemble the group while gathering at the Monster)
Also, scouting in groups is more efficient.
And i totally agree, if you hunt in off-peak times, hunting is more like it should be, and not a 10 second zerging of 100 players, and the shoutcast insults of the 300 players which didnt make it in time.
I do hunt solo as well but when I find stuff I let FC and a non hunt LS know and will inv people interested there or inv ppl that shout. We get a quick party for that mark then most usually disband and onward to the next one. It works fine and I even got A and S full contribution. I also actively try to pop S ranks where I can(fishing, gathering).
Actually, hunts were meant for both solo and party. Originally B rank marks were for soloing, A was for a single party, and S was for multiple parties. SE didn't foresee the zerg rush though obliterating B ranks because they were never meant for that, and thus, was forced to raise their HP to party levels to please the masses. Unfortunately, this had the negative side effect of killing off solo hunts.
B rank marks were supposed to be for the guy questing, grinding, doing FATEs, etc. It was a "oh look, I stumbled upon a monster with a name, I can get a little bonus during my adventures."
You will have a high chance to claim full credit as solo when
1) The server is pretty dead
2) You are there when the mob is 100%
3) You are using a Warrior
4) Your Warrior is using DPS accessories and geared
5) Your Warrior is STR speced
6) You use a X-STR pot
7) You are able to land 2 very buffed BB combo and even better, an IB at the end of your 2nd BB
The more conditions you fulfill, the higher your chances are.
I have obtained full credit as a solo WAR on B and A rank before, and a full S rank credit with 2 other WAR that I quickly picked up while rushing to the S rank spawn.
I soloed my third B mark yesterday in Southern Thanlan. As long as the crow isn't too large, not the mob of hundreds just maybe 35 or so people, I get full credit. It only tends to work during off peak times though. With the peak time mob, I get between 2-5 seals. This is as Brd, not sure if that makes a difference.
It's actually not that hard to get full credit solo. On B's maybe, A's not so much. S's I won't comment because I play on PS3 and I don't even see those so I don't bother to show up when they pop. It's just a matter of observing who's the horde puller and strike before or immediately after the puller to compete for enmity and just whale away at it.
If you find a B alone: One, don't announce it. Two, if you got a well geared summoner with Titan and a chocobo equals easy prey.
