It won't quite work in 14 though, it will be taking up a DPS slot. So even if the player base figures out a half decent way of making it a tank it will still be a DPS slot. ie What are you going to do with the other tank spot...make them DPS?

It don't fit the stoy to have a thief guild in a city. Jobs don't have guilds in the first place. So it is still possible to get thief as a job in the future. Except if Rogue get the steal skill.

But then Ninja couldn't be dps and that's clearly more important than having a thief job.

I don't really agree with their reasoning for not having Thief either. Thief may have had its roots in petty crime or such but... really? No city would host a guildhouse? I don't see Limsa being above doing so. And I'd see them maybe utilizing them as couriers, spies, special ops, things along those lines. The dirty jobs that need to be done but not publicly.

I'm not saying rename Rogue to Thief either. I'd much prefer Thief be a Job with its own special abilities going forward. Maybe I can hope for it in the expansion...

The thing is in the main story Minfilia stated that Thancred was involved in shady business and less than noble practices when they first came upon him. Yugiri has similar origins of the art form that Thancred uses, but with ultimately different philosophies driving it. It sounds to me like Thancred is a Thief path while Yugiri is a Ninja path with Rogue being the common basis for both paths. So yeah I have no clue as to how Yoshi-P thinks it wouldn't fit into the story.

Ninja is going to be playing the same as rogue, and rogue is the same as thief minus steal...so, meh?
Drg is the same as lancer plus jumps, same with rogue-ninja. You'll use Rogue skills mostly, and Ninja skills have longer CD. Unless Nin gets it's own combo, that replaces rogue stuff, but i doubt it.
I don't see any use of stealing stuff, as a job...retainers already are stealing entire houses.

Jobs don't require guilds. They have nothing to do with city states. I doubt there's going to be a Ninja guild being as it's a job from the east.

I'm glad other people are on my boat. If it's expected that the audience for Ninja and Thief are the same then something's gone horribly wrong.

Interesting that they chose Rogue - Ninja
That means that it is very possible to see a Thief class that is even more special.
