I thought it was real because its kinda like a fame system, and the phase names are just like how jokey the achievment titles are :( but ah well. Sob sob cry hang self etc (joking of course)

Dungeon Fighter Online actually had a system similar to this. You'd give them a few of their favorite items a day and receive a few items from them in return. Some of the items were pretty good and worth some money. You also could get special titles for reaching a specific friendship level.

I think I encountered some april fools joke that was similar.. but I can't seem to recall where. But it was also saying its characters are datable. Damn it SE now I can't stop thinking about it.
