I wouldn't go that far about this game but ya it is not straight forward.
For now the current drop rate is mostly to prevent too many players from getting their Atma too soon since not many people are meant to be at Coil 2 yet but only those who have already worked hard enough to be in Coil 2.
Once 2.3 hits and Crystal Tower's 2nd raid is released we may see a increase in Atma drop rate in 2.3 and a bigger drop rate increase in 2.4 when the next set of Atma Souls for ilvl 110 version of Relic is released (with Coil 3 of course.)
As of now SE seems to be following the pattern of making current endgame stuff tedious during release then gradually make it more accessable each update with the tedious part being moved to more current new endgame stuff. Relic weapons so far are only Starter Endgame Weapons after all.

Taking time to get gear is understandable; doing stupid, boring, and laughably easy content to get a BiS weapon isn't fun. It's just a huge time sink. If they didn't expect them to get the Anima/Animus before next patch, why did some get them in 4-6hrs? Because the quest is broken. I answered it for you.
The games been out for much longer than 1 week. It doesn't matter the time the patch has been out. People have gotten 12 atmas in 6hrs, and no atmas in 12hrs. It's not casual at all. I'm a casual player and Ithink it's idiotic. I get one, maybe wanna try to get some Atmas so I go bash my head against RNG on level 3 mobs to waste 2hrs doing something that ISN'T FUN. I've never thought there were people that would blindly defend this game and rationalize stupid stuff SE does until this patch. They need to adjust the RNG or give it something that could be a tangible backdrop goal like 100% atma on first time clearing every FATE in a region. Is it that hard to reward someone for wasting hours of their time? Grind isn't what MMO's are about, and I really wish people would talk about how the MMO genre relies on the word grind because it shouldn't. Have fun, challenging content to experience with friends on an "adventure". THAT is an MMO. THIS is dumb; the stupidity is just shown exponentially when I can tell 12hrs into atma farming and not have to wait 1-2 weeks.
FATE grind is srs bizz. Srs bizz that only the truest of true can handle.
Nope, I'm really enjoying the game and its even better now with 2.2.
While I do weep for people, I can look on the other side of the fence: through the entirety of 2.0-2.1 people who DO want content that actually requires time were told you outta luck. These forums were filled with tears that they only log in for one day and that was it. This atma grind is for them.
I would also like to point out any other method than an RNG fate grind would have been completed in a day. That is the very nature of this game.
This is what's bothering me too. I actually like the new relic grind but that's basically all this patch added for most.
Leviathan extreme? Nope titan ex is still impossible even with echo buff
Coil 6-9? Nope. Still not getting past turn 5 anytime soon.
Anything significant this patch added is completely blocked off to most of the playerbase. Might as well take you time with Atmas because that's all we got this patch.

Nope. Quite happy about the content provided with 2.2 and will definitely continue to play.
