If I am crafting in uldah lately and don't go anywhere, I can average at least one an hour. But if I move around and go to some other zones I might get one a day maybe. So just from personal experience they must target people in certain zones.

I've also seen a big spike in RMT tells the last week or two. I typically get 5-10 a day now. I used to always report them but frankly I often can't break what I'm doing now. I'm only able to report a half or a third of them nowadays.
Was on very briefly during lunch today on Balmung (30 minutes) and received almost 20 tells from the same bot. They would come in two at the same time, then one more 30 seconds later. Then it'd be quiet for 5 minutes until the same pattern repeated.
I was in Limsa Lominsa.
Typically on a given day I will be out in the field of late practicing botany (Still low level) and get tells in every zone. I especially get tells in housing and any visits to the cities. As I said, I used to blist 1 maybe 2 a day. But this spike has gotten ridiculous. It don't matter what zone I goto, they spam regardless.
I generally turn off /tell from my chat I barely use it to begin with I use FC chat or party chat and it save me the trouble of filling up my blacklist. Though it also around that time again for the next wave of ban hammars to come around also sounds like you have to many people buying gil on your server to their just as much to blame for feeding the demand...
I don't mind the constant in-town shouting but the private tells are beyond annoying. Even with the ability to quickly block them. There are just so many that you kinda just have to tune out all private messages.
I really wonder how SE doesn't do credit card based bans to account creation?!
