I really don't see what jumping could add to the game that's so great it would counter the annoyance of jump spamming, but I guess we'll see how they implement it.
The scale of your charater in relation to the environment, the detail, the art style, everything about XIV would look and sound different than the jumping beans in WoW. please stop the comparisons
It could add a small element of platforming. We're not talking super mario world, but certain obstacles could be "jumped" over adding a level of realism in a game you otherwise feel glued to the ground. Have you ran up any terrain recently? Ones that make you go, wow i just seriously walked flat uphill.
It's not really a comparison with WoW as much it is a comparison with issues surrounding modern MMO's with features they don't really need, but have because WoW has them. I find jump spamming annoying in any MMO regardless of the style, but like I said, I'll have to wait and see how they implement it.
I definitely agree with you about the spam. When /dance was announced in FFXI a lot of people didn't agree with it. They tied comparisons with WoW and believed it'd be spammed to death. And sure enough it was... for 3 days after introduction. Then people got bored with it and used it appropriately :P I'm hoping that's the trend in XIV.
Based on Bayonhne's reply in the other thread though, I think that clears up any rumors about a Zelda-style jump btw
Had a friend come inside and have a drink waiting for our other friend to arrive. I was running to Nanawa Mines to log off so I could do my loose leves the next time I signed on. My friend was watching me over my shoulder, he is not a gamer btw, when he saw me running up hills from Black Brush to the mines he kept laughing and asked me to do it again. I don't know if this exactly is a great argument, but even to non-gamers this game's lack of jump makes it look totally embarrassing.
