I like having the ability to join anything I want and be useful. Hard to do that when I limit myself on what I want to play.

Considering the ilevel requirement of PF groups it seems pointless, because by the time you get two jobs at 85+ the content will be dated.
Waste of time, but I had nothing better to do.
Flexibility is great.
I play BLM (ilvl 85) and MNK (ilvl 90) almost equally at this point (Turn 1 and 5 as MNK, Turn 2 and 4 as BLM).
If I do Garuda, I go as a BLM and if I do Titan EM or Ifrit EM I go as a MNK.
I also do lower content than that (HMs, CT, Mog) as a WHM. Faster queues are nice for CT.
So that's my personal experience and why I would vouch for multiple characters.
Though the armoury system gets a lot of flak. I really appreciate that I can get gear for other classes on one character.
That's not the case in other games. When I gave SMN a try, I had quite a few allagan pieces that transferred over to it.
When I got my WHM to 50, I had some 90 waiting as well without spending any myth.
So even with the limitations, there are still quite a few benefits. Especially since non-myth gear can fit multiple classes (except bard/archer), so as you keep playing it's increasingly easier to try out multiple classes with better gear.
So gearing up doesn't seem that slow to me.
And with that in mind, levelling multiple classes in this game would be for the same reason as any other game -
- Flexibility
- Trying out different playstyle
- Understanding how the other classes you play with work from a first person perspective
With so many options, why would you not want to level another class?
I'm needed as a healer most of the time, so that's what I call my main; though depending on the mechanics I'll switch between SCH (89) and WHM (83). I run maps, Crystal Tower and just general content with my MNK (84), because it's fun to play and a nice break from my healers; not to mention it's almost as well geared as them now, so I can even do end-game content with it.
I have a WAR (73), but I don't play it much. It's nice to have a tanking class though, as I can help people out with things if they're ever in need. I also go to Crystal Tower with my tank, so that my tanking friend has dibs on all the loot.
Right before the patch I just finished leveling my BLM to 50 and I'm having a blast. I plan to do my Relic quest for it later on today with the Company. Honestly, I love leveling other classes and love that you can switch between them at the click of a button.
Of course it is. I got all jobs 50. It's good to be versatile.
For flexibility and efficiency.
I come as BRD for Turns 1-3 and BLM for Turn 4-5
Our other BLM comes as WHM for Turn 2 Enrage
I never queue for more than 5 mins for CT, ever (not counting the constant party member withdrawals) as I can change as necessary.
More gil from roulette as I am always on the 'needed' role.
multiple classes help to repair your stuff yourself
This... A hundred times over this!
My main has been healing since late 1.0, before I was DPS. Changing to healing allowed me to understand more about the entire strategy and approach of a party's situation. Since 2.0 launched I've also leveled a tank class to 50 and begun to understand that side of it. It's amazing how much better a party can be when all 8 of you can understand every role in the party and what's expected of your fellow players.
