Public Poll: Are FATES a good idea for FFXIV?

Do I like FATEs? Sure.
Do I think they could be vastly improved in places? Hell yes.

Random pointless FATEs do nothing when they should do something. Change the kinds of mobs that regularly spawn, for example. There are plenty of FATEs with text that lends themselves that that sort of mechanic. We have a few FATEs which, when successful, allow NPC vendors to be present. Those kinds of FATEs are great, I'd like more of them at endgame, kind of hard to have them a low levels because eventually people move on and nobody does them... Daily/Event FATEs? Don't mind them, I do them when I see them, I don't camp them when I need them.

Odin and Behemoth are the only FATEs I take issue with. Those should not be FATEs, it undermines the content in just about every way... Had to wait several years to see Odin in XI, and it was worth it, he wasn't disappointing. Get Odin instantly in ARR and he is a pathetic zerg rush... I've said it in other threads, but Odin and Behemoth should be similar to Dhorme Chimera; they spawn, you walk up to it, your party enters the duty. They can still spawn in the same random way, and they can still involve FATEs. Replace Odins FATE with 9 Valkyrie FATEs; once those 9 FATEs have been cleared by a server, his instance opens up for a short window. Similar concept for Behemoth. This would give us a more interesting world (FATE) event, a more interesting battle against Odin/Behemoth themselves, and give players more warning when they spawn. Currently they spawn and you rush there or miss out completely, with a system like this you'd hear word of their FATEs and could participate at your leisure, once they're done you rush to enter the instance with a group. Obviously if you just went to sleep/work before they spawn, you'll still miss them, but if you're on when they spawn it should be a lot less stressful with such a system...

Overall, they're a fun piece of content to do if I need them when passing by, but I loath actively farming them in large doses... Randomly doing some of the regular EXP ones while I'm doing Hunting Log or just passing through is nice, randomly doing some of the NM ones is fun. Doing the actively farmed ones (both EXP and Odin/Behemoth) I find to be horrible...

FATEs are a horrible rip-off of open world encounters and events that Rift and GW2 did hundreds times better.

FATES were done lazy they have no effect on anything and are just a simple zerg fest.

I voted for both because in certain situations I think they are kinda fun to have.

Reasons I like them: FATEs being in quests like to unlock CT I actually like FATEs in those instances ( where you have to unlock content)

Reasons why I hate them: Anyone can join ( Hate this because it gets way too over crowded and it invites Zerging in most if not all FATEs


What I would do to make FATEs better?

1) Make FATEs poppable with a certain item (rare item) ( Only your party can be involved in the FATE).
2) Make the FATEs less about zerging and more about tactics.
3) Have them drop rare loot that everyone has a chance at getting.


As it stands for the most part I dislike the current FATE system, if they were to implement what I outlined, I would be more inclined to do FATEs.

I enjoy fates after the patch. Before the patch it was a nightmare trying to fate cause of the massive zerg. I couldn't even tag mobs they died so fast. After the patch there is much less people doing them but still enough to finish them quickly and I actually get to do something for once.

I personally enjoy participating in the occasional FATE. I've yet to see Odin, and I've seen Behemoth once (got in a couple of pokes on his backside before my DF popped).

Though it's not SE's fault that the players zerg rush FATEs. But with the experience changes to FATEs in 2.1, I've seen less and less FATE farming groups now, but that's to be expected.

I have nothing against the FATES, but the big problems with them is actualy SE !

They are not using them correctly!

How about !

1. Make some fates if they are not compleated change the the environment of the map and also we loose the outposts there!

2. Now some fates are actually bosses, how about they drop matirials for crafting !

3. How about fates in witch Battle classes and Craft classes work together.....maybe a villages is beeing attacked and the crafting class people need to make deffences and in the time the battle classes people deffend them from monsters or impirials !

I enjoy FATEs. They provide an interesting alternative source of exp, and some of them have interesting storylines and quirks to them. I like the fact that different FATEs cater to different strengths, and that they feature a variety of approaches to defeat.

I do not like any quest or event that forces me to wait for a SPECIFIC FATE. I prefer to just go ahead and do a FATE if I feel like it, but not feel obligated to search out specific ones, and then sit around doing little or nothing until it pops for fear that it will pop and I won't make it there in time before the others waiting to do it finish it off.

I don't really care either way, so I liked post #1 for making an effort. ;)

I will say in open world there's almost nothing to do other than fates, so there's that I guess.
