Who is this game targeting?

Boy people sure like to push their opinions on others. I never said anything about being unjustly rewarded with my friends. I simply said I was disappointing that there was a feature I was looking forward to for the change of pace and bonuses that I now will not be using. And no i would not want them to hold it out of the game just because it does not fit my play style. I said it should have been designed better in the first place.

Why do people give SE a pass on every sub-standard system they implement? And by sub-standard I mean not even living up to most MMO's currently on the market? When was the last time you could not link items in chat? Whisper in a dungeon? cast a 1 sec spell while running? Do a solo quest without dropping party? Start in the city you want without choosing a specific class? compare items to the ones you are wearing? sort your inventory? And yes i know they are addressing some of them... this is more about why design it that way in the first place?

I am not a hater of the game, but I just do not understand a lot of the decision making. If you want to not question anything go ahead, but this game needs changes. have you been to the low level areas lately? They are ghost towns. I would like the game to succeed, so when I see a system implemented in a way that makes no since to me, I say something.

Every other game I have played that had a random dungeon feature for bonuses allowed you to form a party to do it. I have been searching all the dev posts and could not find anything saying the Duty Roulette was only intended to help low level characters find groups. It was stated it was to make other content more attractive so people were not constantly log jamming WP/AK. If you can reference that info please do I would love to read their reasoning.

The target audience is everyone. We will be able to do the Duty Roulette in parties, as well as form full 24/24 raids for CT, just not immediately.

I agree with the OP, I'm not that concerned with the reward since as far as I know we only get 1 roulette per day. I am more interested in increasing the variety of dungeons I can do as well as helping out some new players. I usually pick up 1 or 2 friends and one of us is always a tank/healer simply to improve queue times. In my case, since we can't join roulette in a group of 2 or 3, it would decrease the number of tanks/healers because we will do something else that does allow parties.

That said, they have announced that it will become available in 2.2 so that makes me think they're having a technical issue that needs to be resolved since they're clearly planning to add the feature. Perhaps they want to monitor server loads without parties involved so that they don't have a repeat of launch issues? They're also increasing the number of available dungeons in 2.1 which will help tide me over in terms of variety until then.

Not everyone queues with a full pre-made. I can't even queue with my fiance to take advantage of the roulette thing, which basically means I'm not going to use it. I have no interest in playing by myself, which is unfortunate, because I do have an interest in running older dungeons again. This is the same reason I'm upset about the CT restrictions. My FC has been greatly looking forward to Crystal Tower as something we can do as a whole group, rather than being forced to sit people because of the 8 man limit. And then we hear you can only queue with 8 people...

I really don't understand why Squee has so much trouble implementing game systems in actually functional ways that are up to the standards of current gen MMOs.

Which I personally find a little ironic since it was always told to us that the old version (1.0) had to be done away with to create a system that was supposedly FREE from these technical limitations. Why make ARR if you're still going to be bogged down with "limitations" which are seemingly making players miss out on extremely key features?

There low level dungeons are going to die anyways, this is to TRY to get high levels to go back and do those dungeons. Now I have talk to a lot of players and this just wont happen. They have said no way it serves no purpose to go back and do them, I kinda agree with them. Seeing as I will have to re-set up my bar just for the low level dungeons, ill pass and so will others.

This was an uneducated response all around. Before Making FFXI Yoshi played Ever Quest, and FFXI was largely based off of EQ in design. After 1.0 Failed (The lead Developer at the time had the vision of - an MMO that wasn't FFXI) Yoshi stated his point of view was that the goal was to make it not FFXI, and that made it nothing at all. For somebody who played 1.0, that is a fairly accurate description. It was pretty much empty at launch, large regions and landscapes with nothing in them.


Then before taking over and updating 1.0 to 2.0, Yoshi (again in a live letter, stated roughly) ~ that he played World of Warcraft - the leading game and standard in modern day MMORPG's and learned from it, what about it was successful? So that he too could make another successful game. Emphasis on another, because FFXI was in it's own right, successful.

FFXI (at launch) and FFXIV so far are nothing alike. The only similarity is that with one toon, you can change classes and play anything.

Oh right, you can do that in almost all Final Fantasy titles.

I do lowbie dungeons with a ps3 controller and don't have to re-set up my bar... you have less abilities most of which you use constantly. Have you tried?

If the bonus is considerable, it might break the monotony. Like I said a page before, I do this without the incentive. I'm sure I'm not alone here... maybe I am :(

To each his own, but I dont want to go back and do a low level dungeon nor do I want to get stuck in prat or castrum runs. Everyone has there reasons for going or not, and I choose not to do it. Let the low level players actually make some friends, thats a good start it isnt hard. They could ask the FC or ls members if they would like to go. Instead of players being a soloist they really should ask other players, it isnt SE job to make players social, it is up to each and every player to do that on their own.

I think I'm more agitated about not being able to make a preform alliance for CT over grouping with randoms for a daily dungeon.
