I may have to make that name if it fits.
Either way,f or me, it depends. If I'm mid-fight, there's no way I'm typing out whole names if I need to get a point across. I don't type fast enough to justify it.

I'm always referred to by name :'D Sometimes in 8 man speed runs they'd call me "BLM" but then there'd always be another BLM in the group so it's like "OK...well...we'll both do it, eh?" But never been referred to "SMN" when on my SMN, it's always "Aylin" :'D
In an FC I was in I even gained a nickname which everyone used instead...
I always get referred to as him, and it's probably really annoying but I always correct them. It's just weird being referred to as a guy :|
I try my best to call people by name. I may shorten it down, for example, if the person is called Alexander, I'll call them Alex. Easier to type out.
The game already gives you the names, so I always use them. I think it's rude to call someone by their job or class.
Anyway, it's rare for me to be called "blm" or "sch" here. In WoW I don't think I've ever been called by name, even when "pally" is longer than it.
J I N is closer together than B L M, so there's is no reason excuse to say blm when Jin is faster to type.
Honestly if someone is gonna call me by my job/class by all means say Red Wizard! :3
I always found it strange people refer by job abbreviations in this game but can understand it because parties are fleeting acquaintances compared to FF11. Then again, because the relationship is fleeting, I suppose they don't know you, and so using your job title is the equivalent of say Sir or Ma'm in RL
In 11, people would more commonly refer to people by nicknames or by the first syllable of their name.
haha exactly !
I think we are all finding out that this community is the complete opposite of 11. If I could have anything in ARR from 11, it would be the community style. But times have changed! A whole new generation is playing mmo's now a days compared to us 2002 ffxi'ers
People choose weird things to give a crap about.
Well people calling me by my job isn't annoying me at all.
Why ? Because im only ok with friends and FC using my name.
I don't like when PUG players call me by my name because it sets some kind of proximity i certainly don't want to have with them.
When im in DF or whatever with people i don't know, im random to them and theyre random to me. Calling people by their jobs is a way to keep some distance. Strategy wise we're only jobs anyway.
PS: What annoys me above all, is when some random guys talk to me as if we were friends. I just want to tell them to f*ck off.
But... I don't because im not that rude, not every time at least.
I don't care if people call me WHM or Heals, I'm used to it.
My FC calls me by my name.
If I'm in combat in a pug, I can type out "drg lb" a lot faster than I can try to spell his long anime name. I have no care what pugs refer to me as, my e-feelings will be fine.
I do have a tank friend that types out everyone's first and last name, capitalized properly, when addressing them even in dungeons. I find that a bit odd to be honest ♥
