Yeah they did, I can't wait to see these changes and additions start so surface.
I wasn't too keen on auto-attack at first, but the more I ponder over it the more I see it's growing potential for their system in the coming months. Just altering speeds and animations could be a great way to separate classes, and AA can really open up doors for enhanced complexity and strategy in grouped fights. Where, whilst you mindlessly are attacking, your focus is better spent reading the enemy, gauging your party status, and discussing the fights as you cycle through your skill set and stroke your beard, or just to make jokes and smalltalk on easier and perhaps more tedious of fights.
In the early stages I really hoped it would evolve into a more action oriented system. But I don't think that would've been a wise course of action. Maybe it's my old age, but I don't want to charge a mob at the speed of a sports car, do double back-flips over his head, only to attack all of his joints at speeds unhumanly possible with instant inputs and roundhouse kicks to the face, until the being ceases to breathe. As fun as it is doing that in real life, I just don't feel it has much longevity in MMOs or options for tactics.
My only real worry is if our characters movements/actions are locked whilst we are auto-attacking. The animations in XIV are ridiculously real and amazing, that being said, they still need to be interrupt-able I feel. This is probably my only real complaint with XIVs battle as it stands now. I just hope when I choose to use an ability in the future, it fires instantly no matter what else is going on with my guy, even if it looks somewhat clunky and unrealistic for a fraction of a second.
anyways, yeah great info! good things are coming, keep it up SE :sparkle eye thumbs up:
