Id prefer an item to be locked for 3 days after its listed, without being able to adjust/remove it until its done. This would curb a lot of the undercutting.
Undercutting doesnt bother me. As long as I still make money I appreciate the oppertunity to sell my wares and purchase on sundays at extremely lower prices. What I dont get is why so many crafters insist on selling their wares in a rush. Just leave them, and relist them every 24 hours or so. Doing this I still make 150k or so on a good day. Sometimes I'll sell an item for 20k knowing full well I could have kept it for wednesday and sold at 35k. Thats me being dumb, not the undercutters fault. - You just dont follow them over the cliff and find the market hours that work for you.
I personally think it's kind of funny. I can drop the prices of mats by 70% in a day if I just flood it, it's hilarious.
Just try not to get too serious about the market. If you do, it just gets really frustrating.
Yes, perhaps it would, but that seems to assume that undercutting is bad in and of itself.
The OP seems to be upset because his idea of the "correct" price is not universally shared. If a person is willing to reduce his price so that it's the lowest, what's wrong with that? And if the OP doesn't want to sell at that price, that's fine too.
Let me put it this way for those of you that actually want to limit being able to adjust price whenever....
It won't matter. Because there are so many people out there, people will make new postings anyways, and the new posters will still undercut you. either way you're still going to be undercut. the only difference is that you'll have no way to fight back against it cause you just gimped yourself.
Scenario 1-current market
Trader A:"My reservation price is 1000, but I'll see if the item will clear at 1500, and if it doesn't, I'll adjust it downward."
Trader B:"Hmm...someone selling at 1500...I'll undercut him by selling at 1400...LOL"
Trader A:"Ok...seems like there's competition...lets try 1300"
Trader B:"WTF! I'll meet you at 1200"
Trader A:"I'm going to sleep...gonna change to my reservation price...don't want to sell it at anything lower than 1000"
Trader B:*RAGE!!!* "WTF!!! THIS MARKET SYSTEM SUX!!! THEY SHOULD PENALIZE ADJUSTMENTS! THEY SHOULD NOT ALLOWED UNDERCUT!!! THEY NEED TO CHANGE THE MECHANICS OR THE GAME IS GOING TO DIE!!!"
Scenario 2 - price adjustment penalty implemented
Trader A:"Hmm..my reservation price is 1000, but since I can't adjust my price freely, I'll just sell at 1000 since I've bought it dirt cheap and still makes a good profit from it"
Trader B:*RAGE* "WTF???? WHY THE F ARE THESE IDIOTS SELLING AT SUCH RIDICULOUS LOW PRICE??? THIS SUX! THE MARKET IS BROKEN!! HE MUST BE A FARMER OR A BOTTER OR BOTH!!! THE MARKET NEEDS A MINIMUM PRICE MECHANISM SO THAT THESE IDIOT CANNOT SELL AT SUCH LOW PRICE!"
No.
That's how the market works.
OP, just sell yours at a price that gets people to notice your post without scrolling, but sell it in smaller quantities. Not everyone on the market wants to buy 99 of everything. Works for me, just my 2 gil...
