It's only silly to people who didnt want it and as you said this most likely took little to no effort to develop/implement....

They're adding a nice feature into the game that a lot of players are already responding positively to. Don't knock them for adding fun little treats. These types of gameplay details are just as valuable to add color in an MMO as the big picture fixes, and something this small isn't exactly detracting from development labor in any significant way.
As far as having NPC descriptions above or below the name, I may be wrong but I believe that Yoshi mentioned he wanted to add this feature to the 2.0 client.

Reinheart has anyone on the JP side asked if they could increase the time from 20seconds to say 60seconds? It may be useful to some people for something like ifrit HF or the ant guards on the princess.
If bosses start using timers for their moves, we guna end up with frikkin deadly boss mods in 2.0. /facepalm.
Bosses using timers? lol the timer thingy was for players to show the timer in front of the player but I guess that could be fun...
Odin with count down timer till it uses that super move instant death (Zantetsu ken)
Demon Wall closing in every time timer hits 0, once it's to closest to you uses smash - instant death
there were other mobs in older FF that used timers... I forget which mobs >< I remember there were some in FF5
Yea I know but you give these things to players and before long devs are using them to set timers on moves.
Then someone brings out an add on that flashes text on the screen to say "Eruption soon !"
