Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

Yea the jackalope theme caught my eye since it is a myth and technically so are male viera lol. I also like that it adds to the idea of them being as attractive as the females, but more aggressive. I also thought the idea of the clawed boot rather than a heel, but still standing on their toes for the race gear was a really nice touch. For not knowing much about viera lore, I felt this artist really got a lot of things right.

I like this in theory... but if they devs area already struggling just to have hats + ears, I shudder to think of what hats + antlers + ears would do to them.

Yknow, at this time Id just throw up my hands and say F it. Let 's' clip, Cause 99% of the time youre not gonna be zoomed into the helm to see the clipping. or its not gonna matter that much. Youll get a few people to B, but who cares at this point.

Oh I agree, honestly I just imagined they'd give a couple helmet horn options (like the ultima horns) or something rather than actually have the antlers be a part of the head. I also thought it would show antlers or horns being used as a tradition by male viera rather than actually being attached to their race features. Either way they def aren't going to be wearing helms anytime soon based on how long its taken so far

Honestly I like the idea of just using the version of hats that are used for miqotes and then letting the antlers poke through. It could look pretty cool :)

I don't think it's necessarily a wrong per se. It's just a fun and unusual dichotomy.

November needs to get here so we can final know if they will be added next expansion. I really really really hope they listened to us and added the missing genders

"Listening to us" gives them actual staff and resources to make the "missing genders"? You know, the actual reason why they only added one gender of each?

TBH I think if they were going to add them, then it is likely they had already started prior to Covid. While I don't doubt a patch delay is caused by Covid, depending on what assets are actually the cause behind the delay, it may be that the effect on the expansion is limited. So I wouldn't discount it just yet. If anything, what is likely is the entire schedule will shift, meaning future patches and expansion will come later than they normally would have. irrespective of this, I am sure the devs will do their utmost. I personally don't mind waiting a bit longer for the expansion if it means they have an easier time getting back on schedule.

My initial assumptions was that they had went from 2 to 1 dungeons per patch was because they could be working on things for Hrothgar/Viera. With the announcement of Flying in ARR zones, that would more than enough explain said changes to delivery, because hat is a lot of map geometry and what not they have to go through.

As a result, Im a bit skeptical now if we'll see anything for Viera or Hrothgar within this xpac. However, the only saving grace is the fact that customization for Hrothgar and Viera is still busted. They havent given a whole lot in regards to customization options, let alone the ease of doing it. They are still half complete compared to every other race. This could be (and I know its a stretch) simply a situation where theyre fixing the system from the ground up. Meaning, there's no point in releasing small updates here and there if they were gonna tear it all down and fix it from scratch.

As for Male Viera and Fem Hrothgar - I dont see them being added until the next xpac if at all. It wo uldnt be a new race, but it could turn a negative from this xpac into a pretty strong selling point for the next one. This may be the plan, as it were, simply because itll give them time (again) to fix customization issues, and it can be a big hint/reveal/oh snaps moment to start hyping people for the next xpac by having Male Viera and Fem Hrothgar get revealed at the end of the ShB relic weapon quest. Considering that a lot of it deals with the past and Bozja and what not, it seems unusual that you wouldnt see any female hrothgar, at the least.

But thats all speculation on my part. Guess we'll see.

ARR (nothing? or did male miqo'te come out around this time, idk been a while), HW (au ra), SB (nothing), ShB (viera & hrothgar). So I don't know if there will be m viera/f hrothgar next expansion, that is if we get them at all.

Seems like it would be the expansion after our next one. Though I have speculated in the past that because of the overwhelming amount of gear the devs would have to adjust to fit m viera & f hrothgar, they might make the decision to make the other genders sooner rather than later. Or else all that gear would pile up and it'll be even more work. I just don't think we'll get them any time soon, but who knows.

It would be nice to see them. Or if they could add more diversity to existing body types I might not mind as much. As is male Viera seem plausibly along the lines of a race I'd like.

Like Yugiri and Fran did. Didn't play during ARR, so I could not join in guessing WTH Yugiri was under the hood. But Fran made me super duper happy during SB. Heck, even Tsukuyomi made me question things way back when. "Is this hint?"

Was the easter cotume hint??? Waiting is the worst and best part at the same time, siiigh... X__X

Tsukuyomi was more likely a take of the "moon rabbit" myth, it just so happens Viera are also bunny people. The relic weapon is heavily tied to Hrothgar lore so if a Hrothgal doesn't appear at any given time that'd be a huge red flag.

Where did Fran show up? I don’t recall seeing her. Probably a crossover event I missed I’m guessing?

See here's the thing. While they were doing development, my impression was that they didnt actually start developing Hrothgar/Viera models and the like until midway through SB. And even then they hamstringed themselves by changing course and developing Viera 'last minute'. If they plan from the outset of ShB to introduce Male Viera and Fem Hrothgar, theyll be much better off. Itll still be a huge time sink, but it wont be as bad development wise as they currently got it.

They still need to fix customization on Hrothgar and Viera though, so I dunno. Maybe theyre just devoting time to that in particular.

Heh weird, I dont know if I can find it again because of how many pages there are now, but someone said that an NPC but no playable Male Viera or Female Hrothgar would just be an insult and kick in the balls to everyone thats wants it.
Now there is someone saying they Want an NPC as a sign and reference to their coming.

Everyone has their own opinion. I don't know how this thread is different than others in this regard. I don't see you going into the geomancer thread and saying you find it entertaining to see how the mood and opinion shifts in that thread; some people want geo to be dps, tank, or healer, and others think it's lame as a concept. We're not a hive-mind.

Anyway, I don't think we'll see a m viera / f hrothgar npc until the dev team have decided to add them as playable characters in the game as well. I remember reading that the devs chose not to give npc f viera and m hrothgar headgear to begin with because that gear would not be available to players right away. They didn't want players getting upset that they can't wear headgear while the npcs could. I think the same logic would apply to the other genders as well. If we do see npc m viera and f hrothgar in the future, that most likely means we'll get them as playable characters later on.

Different people would want different things. Some would see it as a slap in the face to see a random NPC getting something we players can't (as evidenced whenever a non-unique NPC gets options that aren't available in the CC for their clan/gender combo, one needs only walk into the CC-expansion threads to see that), others would see it as a positive sign (after all, if there's a model now released, it could be modified to be playable)

I'm of the mind that we may see a FemHroth at some point in the Bozja storyline, perhaps at the tail end (pun unintended). Because by then it'd be past the concept art, model build, playtest, QA, and veto stages. It'd mean the team had been working on them, we'd be sure that's how the XIV-team envision them AND, with one or several models out, that there's a high chance they could be playable.

In fact, we can consider that it's been WOMEN so far who have introduced playable races. Merlwyb in 1.x to Roegadames in 2.0, Yugiri in 2.1 to Au Ra in 3.0, Fran in 4.5 to Viera (though seeing as how Viera and Hroth both count and don't as a "separate race"...) in 5.0. It would be a DELIGHT for an important FemHroth to show up in 5.4-5.

I agree I think it is likely we will see more teasers as the relic quest progresses. It might also explain why there hasn't been any updates to the hat situation for FV and MH. Why would you go and fix something when you will have to revisit in due course for the other gender you are developing? (assuming this is the case) why not delay it slightly to do all 3 at the same time?

It might not be the case, and I'm certainly NOT saying it as an absolute, but it is something to consider i think.

Sometimes it does feel like a Hivemend in here, Alot of people say the same things and think the same as a collective. But hey, its a thread about Male Viera Support.
No reason to go to the Geomancer thread and say the same thing, that thread doesn't have over a thousand pages of conversation going around in a cycle.
But anyway, I didnt come here to spark or get into another dumb argument.

Wish we could apply that logic to other races. Be cool if we got the Lupin or many others since they already have NPC models. But ah well Who knows, could always happen like Male Viera and Female Hrothgar.

This post might age like a banana but I feel like this is another classic case of people in this thread setting themselves up for disappointment. There is nothing to suggest that this is a hrothgar. I believe there's more to suggest that she isn't.

She looks way too close to FFXII Ultima to be a coincidence: blue skin, horned helmet, six things coming out her back, white dress with gold trimmings. Additionally, the scenario writer is the writer of FFXII and that screencap is right after

Noah says he's going to carve out a new country using the power that Garleans hate (eikons).

She has no nose and a human mouth. The only thing that seems to suggest that it's a hrothgar at all is that she's blue. I would like to be proven wrong, but without any evidence to say otherwise, to say that it's a female hrothgar tease is a bit of a reach.

I thought it was some goddess they used to worship. Maybe their interpretation of Hydaelyn.

There's no reason BOTH interpretations can't be correct (Ok, I know how this sounds, bear with me a little). Spoilers for FFIV, and the Resistance Weapons Storyline.

I think that image may actually be ASURA, the Summon known as a multi-armed woman holding a bunch of swords, in FFIV she was the Queen of the Eidolons. In fact, I think the "things" coming out of her back are actually her ARMS.

It would hold up to Gabranth's "Lady of Blades" comment and, if we assume that she was a Primal/Goddess worshipped by the Hrothgar, they may have ORIGINALLY envisioned her as a Hroth, but if Gabranth is planning on using her against us, she may have more humanoid features, as we know that the appearance and personality of a Primal changes depending on the view and intentions of the Summoner.

Of course, this is all conjecture along with a fair amount of wishful thinking, so grain of salt and all. :D

This bodes well IMO.

It was strange that wed go through the bozja incident in cids memory and not see a single female hrothgar in the capital city. And if were gonna be doing more memory strolls, the fact we wouldnt encounter one (let alone their queen or leader) seems strange, but I wrote that off as "Well they dont have the models so theyll just have some weird lore reason and never mention it again". But decent game devs dont waste a whole lot of time with details like the image provided unless they have purpose. Could be a giant red herring, buuuuut this leaves me a bit more optimistic that they do have plans.
