A1. The DPS part of the group consists of a monk, a dragoon, a ninja and myself on bard. I'm not parsing but according to the overall aggro and the time we needed to kill Faust (we almost wiped...) I was the top DPS o.o
We reach the Oppressor and I take aggro after my opener (I didn't use Quelling Strikes so I'm not utterly innocent, but on the other hand I never had to use it before), I facetank it about half a minute before the paladin takes it back. Then the scholar goes afk and dies while the first adds appear which I take care of alone. During the second set of adds I get the mini debuff, rockets explode, we wipe. The scholar is still afk, the ninja says "this run tho", and a votekick with the reason "offline" starts - but it's not the scholar about to get kicked, it's the ninja o.o It even goes through - probably people don't even read the name of the person who is getting kicked, they blindly hit "yes" o.o After the kick everyone leaves until it's only me and this afk scholar. Well... ... ...bye dude.

To be honestly my pasttime is seeing which DF tanks I can steal aggro from on my bard with my opener......

I had the worst VA run I've ever done tonight.

To spare you the horrible, boring details, let's just say that at one point 3/4 of the alliance was dead to the first boss.

new to VA, going in with some FC friends, one word from the Tank *try not to be eaten too often*, I said ok no problem I wont....next minute..the entire group BUT me was swallowed...never laughed so much since I play this game...nobody dared to tell me anything after this.

Leveling roulette.

Ended up going into an in-progress Satasha normal mode as a Bard. Noticed that the tank was gone, and the conjurer and puglist present were new to the game. Apparently the tank ragequit on them for some reason after the second pull. Since it was Satasha normal, I knew another tank wasn't gonna show up anytime soon (I'm of the belief that in roulettes, the game will throw tanks into the dungeon closest to their level), so I decided to take up the painful job of tanking for the party.

It actually went REALLY well, no wipes/deaths, although I guess it helps that Bards are very good at taking/holding enmity from everyone else in the super early game dungeons. I can't fathom why the tank would have left besides sheer impatience or IRL stuff creeping up.

(...I have the weirdest roulettes...)

I had a fun Brayflox's longstop normal the other day, the group wanted to go straight to bosses so as the tank I avoided all the mobs I could between the first and second boss. One of the DPS DC'd and was replaced, his replacement ran straight across the map and aggro'd every single mob, the healer tried to save him and I tried to save the healer so we all got aggro. He even managed to type "sorry guys, tagged a couple" as about 20 mobs decended on us and wiped us out in about 3 second flat. All I could do was laugh.

Pharos HM, SCH had Selene for the entire dungeon, even during big pulls. When I asked her why she wasn't using Eos her reply was "...fey wind?". Funny how she didn't even seem sure of it herself.

I don't get your point to be honest. Did your group wipe because Selene was in use and not Eos? And isn't it the scholar's decision which pet they summon? I made the experience that Selene is fully enough in most situations, even for big pulls, and Fey Wind is indeed amazing, so... why did you want her to use Eos instead?

Btw, the reply "...fey wind?" can also mean that this scholar wanted to say "are you really that stupid to ask me this?" It's quite hard to get the actual intention of a phrase if you don't have more than the written word.

Uh...I can kinda see why you'd think that might be a bad choice but its not.

You can use either fairy really.

A skilled SCH doesn't need Eos' healing buffs to add DPS + keep tank alive for big pulls. In that case Selene's buff that affects the whole party is likely a bit better since you increase the SCH's spell casts for faster DoT application + healing, Selene also casts her Embrace a bit faster, and the rest of the DPS in the party also get a bit faster AoE's going off.

Whispering Dawn + Illumination keeps tank up so you can DPS but doesn't help the rest of the group, but you might be able to DPS longer so if you can do as much damage as the DPS then its a wash. If you don't do as much damage as a DPS then Selene would have been better since either fairy you use you will have time to DoT + Bane.

I was a whm and he usually targets bards with confusion so I was being attacked by the same bard like three times.

I ask them: 'What did I ever do to you? o-o'

And they go: "You stole my wife, you bastard!'

And then after the fight was over:

Bard: "Just because I don't have a tail...'

(they were on Hyur and I on my Au Ra)

I join a group for Amdapor Keep. We're doing just fine; I'm dancing between Cleric Stance and ... Non-Cleric Stance to deal some nice hard-hitting damage and shed some healing sweeter than a springtime breeze at the same time.

About halfway through the run, the Paladin starts using Sword Oath instead of Shield Oath, and proceeds to pull 2 - 3 groups at the same time.

I can no longer DPS. I start to think he was getting bored, and, truth be told, he says "Man this place nerfed is boring". Ah-ha. Well, power to him, yeah?

Well, no. He's using Sword Oath, and pulls 2-3 groups; his health dropped faster than a goobbue turd in Bronze Lake. The end result: take a guess.

I proceeded to waste my Swiftcast/Raise on him. Instead of accepting the Raise and saving the whole group, he releases back to the beginning of the duty, allowing the rest of us to succumb to the hordes and hordes of beasties doing Gods-know-what to us.

We carry on. I look at his nameplate. On comes the Sword Oath. Great, I say to myself.

Boss goes great.

The tank thanks us with "Nobody likes a healer who doesn't DPS :p"

And leaves.

I've been healing a lot of early dungeons to help with all the recent sprouts and queue times. I especially liked the group where the tank just ran up to the closest coral in Sastasha and pressed the button. After we were done dealing with the jellyfish, two others ran and immediately pressed the other buttons.

Was very amusing. Just press all of them at once!

Seeing lots of good stuff grinding out this relic, tidbit that just happened:

Everything seems to be going fine in A4(I'm MT), aside from a heals dying at the start. They recovered.

Final phase, whats probably the last set of lasers, DRG gets in and keeps hopping around for positionals, I buff and try to take one, but not with him ducking and weaving. He stands right on two other DPS and all three die. Lucky those heals pulled through and raised everyone but the loldrg.

At least three fail runs a day from dps totally ignoring adds in A4, most times as MT it seems I have to kill two...

Running into a PLD from my server who didn't nothing but call everyone losers, and to kill themselves...

A healer that brought all three lasers to me as MT when I was at half health...

Above healer told everyone the mechanics wrong and got very angry when I asked if he had actually run it before. He also stacked on the other healer for Nisi and said there was no way to avoid it.

The troll bard who came in with a friend and pulled as soon as the shield dropped and put the bombs on the whole group. His friend (i assume EB partner from the name) a MNK that wouldn't go to dolls because they were moving, then proceeded to lip everyone off....

Vault, it should be the place where bad players get rooted out but no.

Me(noobNIN) and bf (PLD) que and get BLM and WHM. Everything goes OKish, but my WHM senses are tingling and notice WHM is always low on MP. Why? He only uses Med II, Cure II or III. Doesn't Esuna any of us or Regen and when he uses Stoneskin II, he pops ALL HIS CDS, Shrouds, Presence of Mind, Divine Seal.

I try asking him for Regen for tank but no response. And last boss me and bf are really scared and more focused on dodging than doing derps. We somehow manage and I check this person and see he has ALL JOBS to 60, except WHM. Even AST and SCH(I know SCH can be SMN BUT STILL).

Needless to say that WHM didn't get my com.

Healer: CNJ spamming Cure and Medica all time

Oh, it's pretty normal for that kind of stuff to happen at Sastasha, don't judge them. It's their first dungeon and probably their first time in a normal composition party. It may even take them a few more dungeons to figure out some stuff. We've all been there in some way or another.

A typical Sastasha run ^^
I once tanked Sastasha NM on my dark knight and got an archer who pulled stuff or attacked a pulled mob before I could use Unleash. I asked her nicely to stop that, thinking she was new to the game. Her reply was "I can try, hehe" which made me curious, why this "hehe"? I looked up her profile and found out that this lady is a lv60 paladin ._.

I've done Satasha countless times and this was the first time I had this combination (spam heal, tank carbuncle and DPS pulling) at same time. Fortunately, Satasha is so easy

This is more of a vent than anything but sums up why we have so few tanks.

I'm leveling my tanks (all 3) and even though my PLD is lvl 50 that was back in 2.0, I've not done any tanking in 3.0. So I get to level 51 on WAR and I try Dusk Vigil for the first time, and anounce that at the start. My item level is 118 with full Ironworks gear and a HQ axe off the MB. I'm using 2-3 CD's per fight and dodging all telegraphs, I even manage to time Mercy Stroke to regain a little HP a couple of times and I'm using Storm's Path and Eye when I can but the DPS was good so enmity was my main concern. I won't claim to be great at WAR as I'm still learning it obviously but nobody died or took hate and the run went pretty quickly. Despite this the healer, starting at the first trash pack didn't stop complaining. Even when the DRG suggested LoS pulling some elementals to avoid Frostbite (which I eventually did) he moaned about that too.

I can't change the fact that I'm a level 51 tank in a 51-53 dungeon but I guess he didn't care about that. I also refrained from pointing out that I've healed through it with a proper squishy first timer and I gave him a comm for trying hard, not bitch at him about it.

Anyway rant over, I've got tanks to level so I'd better get back to it.

You can get rid of confu if you /slap the player. Like the /comfort for the gremlin debuff in Library and Lost City.

Does this really work though? I've done it for misery in LCoA and GGL and it either doesn't do anything or it gets reapplied instantly because I never see the debuff drop off.

I even had a tank tell me to stop emoting so much in LCoA, and I was like..."Comfort purifies misery?" But honesly I have no clue. I don't think I can get it to work consistently.

You have to be right next to the person for the /comfort to work, otherwise it does nothing. Not sure on /slap and confuse though.

That reminds me of the time I was in there as a BLM and got confuse'd. My character started running around hitting everyone over the head with his staff. XD

Did two Vault runs for my Anima weapons the past few days (BLM and DRK) and they both went off perfectly. Except for when I accidentally used the tank limit break on a random trash pack. XD Well, at least I learned it has no cast time. :D

This is from yesterday, late last night I decided to do one more cutter's cry on drg. I hadn't touched this job since 2.5? after getting blood for blood, I spent the day toying around getting used to it again.

After a 45minute wait (average q shows 8mins lol) I get a pop appear, to my disgust time elapsed 60mins. I enter in to find a lonely blm and a offline member in group at the final boss, I take a little look at the blm and find this is his highest level.

I ask do you have cure equipped? he promptly adds it to his hotbar and off we go, he explains they been trying to beat this boos but just can't do it. I explain mechanics and he says he knows them already, I love this boss always fun to tank had to do it on nearly everyjob XD

We get to around 70% before my son wakes up, promptly making us wipe. The blm was handling the mechanics ez so sure im sticking around for another shot!

We get back at it, around 40% the blm makes a mistake and promptly dies! he was doing great till then lets give it another go!

The final attempt gets off to a bad start, I animation lock myself into an aoe. we recover just fine and I continue to derp my way through my rotation while tanking.

Main Scenario Roulette just now.

End up in Castrum Meriandum. This Dark Knight tank proceeds to pull everything and things are all fine up until the hallway before the final room where all the colossus are. He starts screaming at the DPS, something like 'go away, DPS are dumb, after 3 years they still don't figure out to stay at cannons', nevermind the fact that it's entirely possible to sneak past the majority of enemies in that room and that almost everything disappears once you deal with the mechanic in that room. So he proceeds to pull almost everything in that room all the way back to the cannons in the hallway. Then we all went to the cannons in that room to shoot down the airship, and he starts screaming at the DPS again, like suddenly he wanted everyone to attack the remaining colossus that appeared like those few seconds of attacking were so precious to him. The other tank defended the party, then he launched into a 'lolWAR' rant against him.

It is really such a completely unnecessary thing to get upset over, in such an easy dungeon and especially when at the actual boss fight, everyone pretty much did that the speedrun way properly.

I just felt like I needed to vent since that was my first really bad experience with a tank, which was probably an inevitable thing considering I've only been playing for half a year and have had a pleasant experience with pretty much all my DFs until now. Thankfully the douche isn't in my server.

Had a couple of interesting roulettes yesterday...

For leveling roulette, I got Cutter's Cry. First thing I notice is the tank doesn't put his tank stance on when he goes to pull. Second, he's still a gladiator - not a paladin. Bad feeling begins... I check everyone's gear. I'm a 54 bard synced down to 40. Everyone else is at/around that level except the tank, who's synced down to 40 as well but wearing a piece of 44 gear.

I asked if he had his job crystal. He said no, not yet, in "say" rather than party chat. Bad feeling confirmed... I knew from that point that dps/scholar/Eos would be taking aggro for the entire dungeon. From the very first pull, hate was all over the party. The ninja caught it. The healer caught it. Eos caught it. And no amount of quelling strikes was going to keep hate off me if I was going to dps properly.

After the first floor, the ninja asked the tank to turn Shield Oath on. I replied he couldn't because he didn't have his job crystal. "Oh," he replies. "Yeah, we're the tanks now," I said. The gladiator spoke up in "say" again, owned up to being as good as a newbie, and said he didn't know what else to do beside flash a lot. I told him when he left the dungeon he should go to Gridania, start a conjurer, get it to 15, then go back to the Gladiator hall and pick up his level 30 Paladin quest from the receptionist there.

So we keep going...I accept my role as tank-bard and go all out. Eos and the scholar kept me healed. Occasionally the tank...tanked...and I did try to let him, switching targets, using Quelling, but long story short I tanked the second and third bosses pretty much exclusively and we got through it. I told him again, if he was going to be an effective tank, he needs his job crystal and I wasn't saying it to be mean as I have all three tanks maxed, and if he forgot what I told him, google Paladin job quest. He asked "what do I do again?" So I told him again, including tips on how to power-level CNJ. And hopefully he'll do it but hey! We got through it, and I got two comms that I'm pretty sure were the SCH and NIN.

I really hope the tank commed that long-suffering SCH; I know I did.

Not long after, I registered for level 50 roulette on MCH, got Snowpeak, and the tank and healer were both new. The tank (DRK) tried to do the standard big pull on the way to the first gate and we wiped pretty fast. "Okay, smaller pulls!" the DRK said, unfazed, and the healer said yes thanks. I think they must have been a fresh 50 because she had trouble healing the whole run. She died during the first boss, summoner raised her, I died because we didn't get adds fast enough, summoner raised me, healer died again...we cleared with the healer dead but cheering us on! I coached the tank on his pulls from then on out, not because of him but because there was no way the healer could handle some of those pulls.

Snowpeak, typically a 20 minute run, took us nearly an hour. But hey! Everyone was good to each other even during wipes, we got the clear, and yay for another comm. I've had worse Snowpeak runs. -_- (One memorable occasion included three wipes at Fenrir and a dps who switched her internet from wireless to her phone's hotspot bc it was better.)

Went in Pharos HM as WHM yesterday. Had a DRG in mostly i185 dungeon gear try and tell me off after we wiped to the final boss twice, due to grey bombs blowing us up. I whipped up a quick "Grey Bombs <se.1>" macro up to use once grey bombs were out so we they wouldn't tunnel vision for a third time. I use it on the first grey bomb + blue bomb adds and the DRG gets pissy and says "I don't need your condescending sounds ty". I used it again immediately once the 2 grey bomb + 2 blue bombs and sure enough we cleared that time.

Was watching the DRG too during the double grey bombs, I don't remember Ring of Thorn spam being apart of their single target rotation x_x

Fun story:

I did a MSQ roulette one time and we got Praetorium. Usually MSQ roulette is pretty boring (because you know, I've done both dungeons a million times...), and it was... until the end.

Just before the last boss, this one SMN in our group suddenly yelled something like "GO CHICKEN NUGGET" and summoned his Titan-Egi and sent it in to tank Ultima. |D The chicken nugget tanked it the entire time, then Lahabrea afterwards. It was glorious.

Also, I did my level 50 roulette last night and ended up with a DRK who had a bunch of amazing fun chat macros. XD They taught me that I can highlight and copy/paste chat (seriously, been playing since August and hadn't figured this out, my mind was blown) and told me to go ahead and copy the macros so now I have a bunch of amazing fun chat macros. 8D

My most recent run. Cutter's Cry on a NIN alt. Run was going sorta okay, until after first boss.

For some reason or another, the tank was unaware of the Healer Kiting method and tried grabbing the adds. I don't know why I was expecting the following conversation to be a civil explanation of said method, but... well...

Healer: What are you, a retard or just new?

My Thoughts: Oh Sweet, Salty Hydaelyn no... :D

What happened next until the second boss was basically a pissing contest between healer and tank. Tank took the comment poorly (and for good reason), but he wasn't a bad tank. Unfortunately...

Tank was vote-kicked by healer and the other DPS after the 2nd boss... and then vote abandoned when a new tank didn't show up for like two minutes.

Edit: Decided to try Cutter's again. Got the same tank, but much better people. There were a few deaths, but everyone was cool about it. Worlds better than the last one for me and the tank. :)

It's weird seeing both the worst and best in humanity within the span of an hour.

A3 with an FC mate. Soon we notice that the monk, the dark knight and both healers are from an FC living in our neighborhood.
Later, Ifrit HM via trial roulette. I notice the scholar being a member of my own FC (which has only seven active members) who went there via roulette as well - so funny coincidences :D

60 Roulette. Ended up in Neverreap.

Both DPS were new to the dungeon. It went quite well, the notable part was that when we reached the last boss, the tank suggested a drinking game: Take a shot for how many times we all get tossed into the air like ragdolls.

We quickly decided all of us would have to take a visit to the emergency room if we actually did so.

(Also the poor Black Mage is probably scarred for life.)

A tiny PSA on that - FFXIV is actually highly efficient on data use! I go through more browsing the web. I have a good connection, but sometimes, it gets extremely laggy or even cuts out for a few hours. In those times, I've started switching to 4G - I don't notice any lag, and the last time I used it, I went through only 3.3 MB in an hour of dungeons. I have a friend that regularly uses 4G to escape his family using netflix. It's not as crazy as it sounds!

At Neverreap both the BLM and the DRG had a dex ring. The didn't come together. The BLM had his by accident, he didn't notice until I mentioned it and then changed to the right one. The DRG had turned in or trashed her old ring by accident while making space for crafting stuff and was using the dex one until she could get the Alex normal ring.

...What are the chances of all this happening? XD
