Please do not lock Jobs to the Weapon Class that unlocks them.

Also, I doubt "Samurai" is going to be the name of the Weapon Class. It'll be something like Wanderer, Ronin, Bushido, Parivr, Vagrant, etc.

I'd freeze myself cryogenically until the patch that had Parivirs (if they're anything like the FFTA2 version) were released if they confirmed that. That's like, everything I've ever wanted from a class. An awesome, sword wielding class THAT ISN'T A TANK.

To add some more wild conjecture; I'd love to see it that Jobs and Classes fit together more like a Main and Sub job. Jobs would be what define your overall abilities, while your sub job is your choice of weapon. This way you could have it so that say, while a warrior with an axe might not be so useful against monsters strong against slashing/blunt damage, they could move to a sword or spear and continue to be viable alongside Dragoons.

As a (hopeful) example, this could lead to actually requiring some thought before getting in a fight. If the Warrior were to fill a tanking role, using an Axe would end up preferable for fights where mobility is un-needed, but the ability to deflect attacks entirely is important. Conversely, fights where mobility is needed would favor sword/board for tanking, with less damage reduction but the benefit that you don't need to sit in place a few seconds (though you would need to keep your guard ability up).

If this ends up being where the devs go, I would gladly welcome this added depth to gear choice and the choices/preparation needed pre-fight. Tweak weapons as needed to make them distinct and offer obvious specific roles for a given Job to take on and I'd be in heaven.

TL;DR Love to see it where Jobs define WHAT you do, and weapons be a choice of how you tackle a fight or counter an enemy.

they can still add weapon to any class to any weapon.

just like they have some stuff now theres shields for only GLD, CON and THM already have a one hand & two hand weapon, DoH have two tool's no reason they can do it for any other class.

I don't think you understand what the "weapons" are

Shield are a Sentinel Weapon. When you equip one you become Part Sentinel. Part what ever other class you are currently.


The Tools that Conjurer and Thaumaturge get are not really their weapons, They are mages. Their MAGIC is their weapon. The tools they get are just Focuses that help them call on their weapons.

DOH's two tools are a main and a sub equipment and both deal with only specifically that class Frying Pan/Culinary Knife etc.

I doubt we'll see any classes with more then one melee weapon type. Your not going to see what ever the Great Katana Class is weilding Polearms, But if they get Samurai as their job they better freaking be able too use Samurai with a Polearm or GK.

The answer was simply in the form of an interview and not a lodestone announcement:

At first, the job system is confirmed to have only the one-class-to-one-job set-up. Yoshida said that, while this is definite for the first incarnation of the system, he hesitates to say that it will ALWAYS be that way, and that as it's refined and developed, they're going to explore their options for opening it up and see if that's what they really want to do.

If I had to guess, I'd say that as soon as they know the system works and it has a solid foundation, we'll begin to see a little bit of pro/con cross-over like we did in FFXI. Whether that'll end up being minimal "That makes sense..." crossovers or the full-on "Warrior is the Swiss Army Knife of Vana'diel" scenario again - there's not even a little hint.

After discussing with the battle team how we wanted to do this, we decided that for light parties and casual play, we wanted players using the class system where you can freely mix and match abilities to make an all-around type of character. Jobs we want to make more specialized, like you see in a lot of other MMOs, such as where the Paladin would be designed as a tank. They have special abilities to defend other party members, and while attack power might be lower, they'll have abilities that will enhance defense and allow them to play a certain role in their party.

Of course, during this job system, to make sure that the job is specialized, there won't be as much freedom in using abilities of other classes. Players will be able to play a specific role, and with that they'll be able to know their roles in high-end battles that require more tactics and a more specific type of playstyle, rather than solo battles, which are more open and where we'd rather have players be using the class system to meet a more flexible style.

The best way of thinking about it is probably two different modes of character fighting style depending on what type of content you'll be playing.

Reading this has me thinking that classes are not locked. If you need to level Gladiator and Marauder to unlock Paladin, why should Gladiator be the only class that can use Paladin? seems like it wont be locked.

But he also said that experience points gained on your Paladin go towards Gladiator. Meaning it's tied to Gladiator. The 15 Marauder would just be an unlocking condition.

interesting change, i did note that in one of the pictures, a bard has a windpipe instrument, and the bow harp, may have different functionality than a regular bow, however, i think that while we may get more weapons per job, they will probably still be exclusive to each job, and most likely only a few will get a different weapon.

Thats the way i see it though, we really wont know yet.

Doubt that. If he had said you can equip the Paladin stone on any class, then I would agree with you. I remain skeptical until he says that. Otherwise it looks to me like PLD is locked to GLA

Okay say you're a lvl 50 gladiator and you just unlocked paladin... Will the paladin job be 50 too? Or will it be lvl 30, and you'd have to grind with your glad to transfer that exp over to your paladin?

PLD is not a class, therefore it does not actually have a level. It's tied to the class. You don't gain anything from "job levels". You get job abilities from quests.

ya but he still didnt answer the question straight forward. There is a chance he can be using Gladiator as an example for what hes saying, and that Gladiator will just be the optimal choice for Paladin.

ya, i also saw that. I seen 3 diffrent variations of weapons, ill list my thoughts below.

*Harp Bow - This weapon seems like the artifact weapon that can only be used if you have Archer and Bard equipped.

*Harp and *Flute - These two instruments are on two seperate concept art pieces. My guess is that these are stand alone instruments that can be equipped in your ranged slot for use when Bard is attached to any other class.

so Gladiator/Bard (flute) or Conjurer/Bard (harp) are possible.
