Crafting is dead

one other thing we need is more information on materias , some of these crafted gears are not as good as ilvl 180 ones without proper melds , take main tools for example with 5 IV materia melded on them , they either miss 3 craftsmanship or 4 CP just to be at same lvl of ilvl 180! same goes for all the chest pieces (10%-29% success chance on overmelding IV? no thanks)
so far had no luck with transmuting materias to higher grade spending so many materia in bonfire!

Main hand is really the only one that is very difficult to make better than the red scrips equivalent. The rest of the pieces don't require tier 5 materia or massive melding to surpass the red scrip gear.

Even many hardcore omnicrafters are looking at this system and dismissing it as not even worth trying because it's too hardcore. Gearing up a single crafter is more time consuming and expensive than leveling all of them to 60. SE missed their mark, to say the least.

You know, I remember everyone's response to 4 star books being "it's too hard," "the mats are way too expensive!" and other such things. To which, Naoki responded with wishing to make crafting - and gathering - more accessible in Heavensward. To which, you know, I was a little saddened by it. I liked getting my Weaver's 4 star book, and all other master books for other crafts(except the 4 star books) I liked knowing I was one of very few people who had the 4 star book, and I did a lot to get there. In fact, it was so tough, and at times I was so deterred by the RNG of Intricate Silver Brocades that I decided more than once that I would quit. Luckily 20%, 22% and 58% were enough and I finally got the book.

But Naoki said he wanted to make crafting more accessible, and honestly I looked forward to that all the same. New crafts, new housing items(as an FC Leader this was something I was extremely looking forward to) and glamours. Maybe crafting wouldn't scare some of my more conservative members in Heavensward, which I try my best to encourage others to take up.


But, as we all know, the word 'accessible' is not the word we would choose for how things have gone with Heavensward. Blue Scrips themselves have turned into a 'waste thousands, perhaps even tens or hundreds of thousand of gil and get given barely a respectable amount of scrips' business. And then they decide to turn crafting into a weekly expert dungeon run, except it takes more than half an hour a day, and costs you hundreds of thousands or even millions of gil depending on your class and whether you have gathering to 51+. Also Fishing is still as useless as it was in A Realm Reborn(I don't include the Zodiac Relic, that was put there far too soon and too conveniently for it to even matter in the slightest).

The only positive gain from Heavensward crafting is the ability to circumvent A Realm Reborn crafting book stat requirements with Heavensward gear. But they sell almost all gear required for levequests to quickly level yourself to 60, spitting on what it actually means to level crafting. (And don't get me started on levelling gathering classes just by standing still for a whole day.)

There is no way crafting has been made more accessible. Unless Eorzea is actually Great Britain and Naoki Yoshia is actually David Cameron supporting the big corporations/Crafting FCs that can actually do this. But myself, and others I know with such money to do things like this are refusing to do so on principle, so good luck.

I don't mind the a system of being 'too hardcore' as long as the reward matches the difficulty.

Getting mastercraft book II is difficult (almost punched my monitor) and expensive for majority of the crafters but didn't mind burning the gil because the we know the new recipe it will offer will be worth.

Sealant gears is difficult. Even with full artisan gear back then no one can really guarantee 100% HQ. We learned how frustrating it is to NQ a 98% quality and how 90% reclaim is totally BS. But with an understanding of the risks and how to manage it, we continued crafting since there is an opportunity to earn gil.

Gee, it was fun back then.

If I had the answers, I'd gladly share them. I don't, but that doesn't mean there are no answers to be had.

This isn't the first time the crafting paradigm has shifted. Before 3- and 4-star crafts (and especially the Mastercraft II books), skills like Reclaim and Piece-by-piece were all but pointless. When it became obvious that the old methods for crafting just weren't going to cut it on the new recipes, that's when tactics like fishing for Good or Excellent procs started to pop up. Folks who were used to being able to gear up enough to macro craft everything under the sun finally started having to pay attention to what they were doing, gauging probabilities to get acceptable results, and working with the knowledge that there was no 100% foolproof way too succeed on many synths.

I feel like folks are being too hasty in assuming that SE has flat-out dropped the ball with their promise of making solo-crafting viable. Pretty near everyone that posts in the crafting forums is ALREADY an omnicrafter. Why? Because damn near everyone that comes to the forums asking advice on how to craft is immediately told, "Level everything to 50. It's the only way." Some may rise to the challenge, but I'm betting a whole lot more get discouraged and turn away. Those of us that remain, we don't NEED to rely on Byregot's Brow or the specialist abilities because we already have all these cross-class bells and whistles.

I'm hopeful that an upcoming crop of new solo-craft crafters will appear that aren't scared off by the old guard's moaning and weeping, who are forced to rely on the new skills. None of us here have put more than a token effort into crafting like a solo-crafter would need to, because it's wasteful and unnecessary. The question isn't whether solo-crafting is the best way - that's almost certainly false - the question is whether it's a VIABLE way. In searching for a viable way, these solo-crafters may come up with techniques that surprise the rest of us.

Edit: And for the record, since many folks seem to be misinterpreting what I mean by all this, I'm NOT implying by any means that level 60 2-star crafting materials are casual-oriented. That is a seperate discussion. My only concern is whether or not casual crafters can effectively craft using those materials, not whether or not obtaining those materials is a casual activity.

I'm doubtful that there is a viable way. It's possible. So is someone walking up and giving me purified coke HQ for no reason.

But that is entirely because I'm considering "readily repeatable" to be a far more important part then "it worked once". Until you can repeat something 70% of the time or more, it's not even in the running. And with the specialist system ... well, I've heard rumors of people doing well with it? I've never actually SEEN it happen. And my own experience with testing the abilities out was so bad I took off the crystal.. the crafting RNG for good/excellent really seems to be downhill, and the math for heart of x (what with the crazy cp cost) seems ... iffy.

With specalist skills it's already possible, when crafting with all HQ mats at least.

But it's seriously inneffective and much more risky.

With the cost of mats, nobody in their right mind is going to do it this way though xD

Gee. I'd love to experiment with the specialist system, or without cross-class abilities. But what do you know I can't! It seems I can only do a limited amount of crafting per week!

I have 16 2* HQs made so far and I still have my tokens from this week's reset. HQing these crafts is laughably easy. Stop talking about them as if they're something special and the "old guard" just can't adapt. System is garbage, end of story.
