I agree they should add a female version.

Just too bad that "classically handsome" will be widely different with each culture so the slender body type may even be seen that way somewhere (and I guess there is a high chance that this is happening in asia culture).
Heck for me a classically handsome man is someone like Ardbert.
Look just in some of those lists that exist on the internet and you see that we have quite a bit of variety in what counts as handsome. Jonny Depp, George Clooney, Ryan Renolds, Robert Pattison. And more. They are not that slender but I would count them more towards the midlander category.
Then look at famous and well liked japanese actors. Suddenly you will find a lot of slender men there that count as handsome to them.
This term is so open to interpretation and subjective view that its hard to use it.
I mean, female Viera are already "too buff" for some people, and the males have an even worse lifestyle, so it's most likely they would be at least athletic, not soft bishonen like if they came from a BL manga. Since they'd also likely have ear sliders and selection tab I doubt they'd have any muscle tone slider either, so SE would have to tread lightly /shrug
Which I do from time-to-time, but hey still think it is time we had another small and unique body type playable character model in the game. I mean my character sits around in queue all day, my sedentary life style needs a proper reflection for my own self expression.
Joking aside I do wish the bunny ears removed the players ears.
Yes, for me as well. Which is why I've been pushing for that direction throughout the thread. I'd be happy if male viera were anywhere between the height and beefiness of Midlander men to Highlander men.
What some people are pushing for, however, is something skinnier and shorter than miqo'te men - which treads into uncomfortable territory when one considers that the physique that brings is no different to that of a child. Something which Yoshi-P has already ruled out, thankfully.
Hmm, few people want chubby/petite bun guys. I mean, that is good. Aren't we all just wanting our fav flavour preferably to be realised?
But considering that one problem with female viera was their feet, I am getting hunch that IF missing genders are going to become true at all, the bodies are going to share as much as possible with existing character body bases. Disclaimer: I know verrryyy little about 3d.
Further. Sorry I do not have any more creditable scource for the next snippets.

"Final Fantasy XIV gives exposition to the elusive male viera, who are virtually identical at birth to females; only upon maturing they are able to be identified gender wise."
"The male viera are secretive, vicious, skilled hunters---"
Bun guys. Identical to females until puberty kicks in, and turns them into badass woodland warriors. Knowing what adult females look like... I'd like to know the logistics of dimorphism which would make male vieras into lithe and lalafel resembling O_o
lalafell is as chubby as you'll get. if they ever decided to go down the route of adding more races (which, i don't think anyone would be opposed to them making more or less reskins with headswaps. give lalafell the hrothgar treatment and reskin them to have white fur and a pom and voila, youve got yourself an ivalician moogle)
I would be okay with that, though I still wish to promote the desire for big chungus. I mean people called out the devs before for being sexist, at this point I think they are fat shaming. They should add a body fat slider for every race, if they do not wish to add new races.
Maybe we should not bring up a very small minority in this. There are still alot of people that want slender men that are for example more like male omega and that is far away from a child. Lets not put all of those that want slender Viera males into that strange category, thats not fair at all and in all the time that I have been here (and I have been here from the start) these kind of people are even less then those that want really buff viera.
What in the frickidy frick is that......just as the Viera females are elegant and feminine, so the Viera men should be masculine and strong. No androgynous stuff please.
There is no issue with slender men, bring them up BUT NOT AS VIERAS. Make a new k-pop fan race for that.
I vote Au Ra men with bun bun ears.
How do you know Yoshi ruled that out? Links?
Random thought.... Do the Viera even share a model? Like the Hrothgar clearly share the Roe model (here's to hoping if we get females they get the female body as well)
So if the Virea clearly have a similar model to another race, then I think that's a good indicator of how makes would look.....IF we even get them
Wow, they really look almost the same. Just with edited shoulders, hand poses and different heads. Never noticed the smiliarities that much but those screens really opened my eyes. Should male Viera look similar to male Elezen, I really hope they make them look a bit more muscular and give them better poses and emotes.
next expansion we see both male and female of the new races seem likely since I suppect this area we be going to
But yeah when/if we get them they’ll be lifted from au ra or elezen models. Elezen would make the most sense since viera are supposed to be indistinguishable until they get to a certain age. The SE team is not going to listen to joke posts to create male viera...hell they probably won’t listen to the serious posts either if they have their vision set.
It’s fun to speculate though. I wonder if the males, like au ra horns, will have different ear options than the females? Perhaps one set a bit rougher (scars/wilder tufts/etc). Imo, I think a very bishounen face/build with tougher details would suit what we know of them.
I hope we get male viera/female Hrothgar next expasion at least, it was bummer we still did not get them. Lore from older game is not a good reason for that, things can and should be different. Genderlock races and class in games always is bad, this is one of the main reason most korean MMO does not go well in the west.
Hmm, i'm of two mind on this. Of what I'm sure (IF we get them) is that there will be at least one bishounen face and one rugged face, if it'll be 50/50 on the "pretty boy/manly man" scale or if there'll be a weird in-between outlier, that I wouldn't bet either way.
For ears, the "easiest" path may be copying the females' ears and adapt them to the male head (and there would even be some justification with the "indistinguishable until puberty" line), but I sure as heck would LOVE to see wilder ears with bushier tufts, scars, or even a couple of holes near the top.
Was wondering do you think instead of adding new races instead they could add custom glam like lupin face, bunny ears that remove existing ears etc . . . I mean if they are going to double down on he limited gear options I would be cool with Glam options to make existing frames into things that I like.
Since the story recognizes your race from time to time, no, it would not be the same (for me).
My issues with that type of glam gear is that they lock you out of other gear in the same slot. Like the fox ears make it so one can't use the corsages or glasses or other hats (Not like Hroth/Viera can WEAR hats, but, y'know...). So if I wanted to make a male Viera (now) using the Bunny Crown, I'd have to give up using the peach corsage, or my elegant rimless glasses that are part of most of my sets.
...which is also why I wish they introduced more high heels, it's getting boring when everyone (including myself) is using the 2B boots or the Viera sandals <.<
I actually remember Yoshida being asked about weight slider, especially after Shadowbringers trailer was released with its fat Miqo'te. He wasn't that much opposed to the idea, but there's another problem than being opposed of having plump characters, and it's the way how armor works now. Currently, each clothes item replaces the appropriate part of body. To adress weight slider they would need to rework it maybe not from the scratch, but it still will be a significant amount of work. It's not impossible though - as far as I remember, clothes do recognize bust size for female characters. Though, in case with weight, adjusting the print of texture can be trickier.
I don't think we'll be getting weight sliders or any kind of option that significantly changes the shape of a race's body. At least, it's not very likely. Yoshi P seems to think it'd be better to make a new race rather than make body altering sliders.
"...if it is a customization option that significantly changes the shape of the races body, I think we would be better off to tackle the challenge of just introducing a new playable race all together instead."

True I can see that, but I do think Yoishi P has an odd take, putting in the work to add more customization options would be an net positive for every player. Sure it might not be as marketable for an expansion as a new playable race.
Though if they were to go the new playable race options this game could use another lala arch type playable character, having them be plus size would just be icing on the cake.
If that cannot happen then I personally rather have glam options to alter existing player models in more dynamic ways. Sure I would not be able to wear other items, but it is something.
We're literally getting big chungus in upcoming Easter event
True, but still stands that those who prefer smaller races akin to lala still have the short end of the selectable player models. As much as it sucks if they were to add the other variants having them have a lala frame would be unfortunate. At the very least people have options to choose from with other desired body types and builds.
Lol lalafell players are facing a massive injustice!
Can we honestly open a separate thread for this type of discussion. It has nothing to do with what this thread supposed to be.
I wouldn't want male viera to be designed in such a manner but they're not exactly going off-topic.
The discussion is a bit funny but Theodric is right, they are discussing the form of male Vieras. And with that they are keeping the thread alive and active. IMO this is a better discussion than just people attacking each other and a bit humor is quite nice in a time like right now. :)
