Idk, some of the FF characters popular amongst the JP audience also include more of the "beefy" style. It looks like a healthy mix, rather than just one art style. Bit odd to say bishounen is inherently better marketing material worldwide...

Ok, when I was speakin of """bishounen""" I was thinking something like... Touken Ranbu or Hakuouki characters, or Free!, or literally anything by Nitro+chiral. That sort of bull. I actually had no clue at all what you were talking about here. I had to google the examples you gave. Yeah, if they did a more lean muscled handsome male I could see that. Some of the characters I saw in those anime I googled could work. I would never want that Omega or whatever, dude looks dumb as heck.

Yeah pretty much, you will always see more of the good looking faces, male and female. People would prefer to play an attractive character than some dumb looking character. Always good to have a bit of variety in the faces though, this game really lacks that with female characters.

Short, stumpy, and furry bunnies is the only fair option! We need more proportion diversity!

Speaking for myself, when I'm talking about Omega M's physique, I mean their slenderness as well as the fact that they have an elegant air about them. They have a very distinctive JRPG face as well. Would definitely love a face option similar to Innocence, too. Of course, they would have to be adjusted to look more rabbit-like (or similar to miqo'te like female viera are). If I were to take a guess, I think that's what others mean when they are referring to Omega M's body type. It's not like we want a carbon copy of Omega M's appearance, like their hair, skin tone, and etc... Rather, we like that slenderness and that bishounen look.

Some of the anime they listed have good examples of bishounen characters, like Touken Ranbu and whatnot.

The catalogue of FF characters loved all over the world is healthy mix, and thank goodness for that.
And you are right in that betterness is a bit relative in here. What I meant by "better" was in same laughably shallow way say leading roles to movies are chosen; those roles go for good looking actors pretty often, because almost everyone's monkey brain likes good looking people. And tricking the audience's monkey brain, that is part of marketing.

I'd say that art could easily be seen representing the same biseinen/ikemen aesthetic I suppose bishounen enthusiasts want. With badass woodland warrior flavour!! Those who already play "bishounen" catboys likely are not bothered by existence of that one "biseinen" catMAN face in the mix. They're likely pretty ok or at least neutral with that, they just did not choose it.

I know people like to moan about ff14's character creation, and yeah I do agree that is could be better, but I never found it so, SO limited that it failed to breed a little creativity in me. That is another thing I suppose we could separate in this aesthetics discussion: what is the canvas, the base, what is the customization. Body's shape obviously something we can do little about, muscletone sliders are for - what? - highlanders and roegadyn only? The face, eyes and noses and ears and chocobo chick tattoos on your cheek is something you can choose or not, then mix and match to surprising variety of looks. Thrown glamour on top of that and you have chance to make character that looks something else than clone army of catgirls at Limsa - like, out of catgirl, for example.

Because creators of those catgirls could not resist their monkey brain demanding to forgo from any "ugly" features.

(Sorry for using miqo so much as an example here, but they are so popular it just works.)

Midlanders get the muscle tone sliders too. They're one thing I wish they'd extend to races besides those two (Hyur and Roegadyn.)

But yes, I think something modeled off that art in my post would work well for the race, and probably allow for enough customisation in faces etc. to sate both those of us who like more rugged or classically handsome looks, as well as those who want softer features.

well if you consider miqo'te lore there's a pretty reasonable explanation right there for why all catgirls look the same

I actually quite like the idea of a more bishounen looking male race, and I think it would fit male viera super well! Similar to how female viera are both elegant and fierce.

I mean, all races have a 'best face' that's naturally going to be more popular, but when 90% of people playing that race/gender chose it, you could say it's more of a design flaw than simply conventional popularity.

I'm looking at you male Highlanders

As for bun boys, all I'm asking is for decent facial hair options that isn't tied to the 60 year old man face, or just don't add an old man face anyways, no one's gonna play a bunny grandpa

I feel extremely cheated. The only reason I ordered the Shadowbringers expansion was because I wanted to play a male Viera. So I stopped playing mostly thinking that the game designers would add them at a later time. Here we are a year later, and a male Viera still is not available. My guess is this is because most of the designers want to populate the game with Playboy Bunnys. This makes the game target an adult male audience, and goes against lore as male Viera exist in the lore.

Since its a matriarchal culture maybe the men are small like some of the concept art that was circulating about the time of the release. I'm just stating that the block on races Hrothgar included needs to be removed.

Do you review your own forums? Female players are a mixed of enraged as being presented a Playboy Bunny to play, loving the concept, and/or questioning why there are no male Viera as they do need to reproduce.

I'm very curious about what logical non-sexist answer you have as to why there are no male Viera in the game with so may player request for them.

Just leave a like on OP and hope for them to be added in 6.0 (like, a year + of wait) since the devs wouldnt add them before the next expac, where they can use them as the biggest selling point

I really do hope male Viera become playable for 6.0!

If only the developers could literally be transparent with us. They most likely know if they're gonnab ehere at 6.0 or not. They should just tell us if not the wait is just getting harder and harder to the point where if WoW's next expansion is good I might just switch to that

Yes, please go play WoW and be hateful towards their devs.

Back on topic, I think they're going to push a lot of content / fixes / whatever you want to call it for the current new races before they focus on adding even more to their plate. I'm not being pessimistic, I'm just trying to be a realist about it.

I've mentioned before that Yoshi-P will NOT give a hard yes or hard no.

A hard no because it's a PR nightmare and the news sites will pound on that like a form of "censorship" or "not listening to the players" no matter the actual reason.
And a hard yes because then that's a promise that he HAS to deliver and will be asked about the progress non-stop. And if something happens and they hit a snag or have to push them back for whatever, then he has to go out and tell the playerbase "I know we said this, but we can't deliver."

All in all, I'm not even expecting news until and unless they're prety much done.

...and give Viera more hairs while they're at it...

I wonder if all the people who complained about male viera not being added right away actually stopped playing. "OMG i'm not getting my bunny boy, i quit".

Now onto the main point. Most likely 6.0 will hold everything. I hope. But to be honest and some may not like it and i don't care but, you have to be very childish and insecure if you are going to make a big ruckus and state that you are not going to play the game anymore and move onto something else just because male viera is taking a while to be added and wasn't added off the bat. To quit over a race, wow. But again, i hope some light is shed on this in the coming months as i'm curious as to what possibly female Hrothgar would look like aside from male viera. Just my 2 cents. (Sorry if i sound mean but it baffles me people would quit over this).

They have been transparent, but since you people didn't like the answer you don't acknowledge it.

They have said they do not currently have the ability to add them and to not expect them to be added. If something changes they will add them, but they do not expect that to happen anytime soon. All you guys saying 6.0 are only setting yourselves up for more disappointment.

Hate to break it to you but that's part of this threads cycle.

It goes through arguments about what they'll look like > about the devs and Yoshi P not being transparent > claiming devs have some ulterior motives (or the outlandish sexist claims) > shouting down naysayers > ignoring facts presented > "lore isn't a good reason" > "6.0 or I'll quit" > etc.

There's rarely moments of positivity in here. And I'm sure if / when they don't add male Viera in 6.0, we'll hear more outrage and have 9,000 angry threads and some of those crazy topics like when they weren't added in ShB.

It's basically 6.0 or bust as anymore than that the amount of gear would just be too great to ever deal with them (both mVieras and fHrothgars) even a 6.0 release would most likely have no headgear and other restrictions like possibly no gloves or feet.

Not sure you understand how a discussion works. If there aren't those on the other side it isn't a discussion.

That being said I am all for the missing sexes getting added, but people need to stop acting like SE hasn't acknowledged them and shouldn't be setting themselves up for more disappointment by conveniencing themselves that it is happening in 6.0.

I support them as well as fem hrothgar and was disappointed with the genderlock but something just tells me its just not going to happen. Maybe i'll end up mistaken *shrug*

My hope is 6.0, though I won't give up all hope until 7.0 just considering it took two expansions for another race to be added, and completing the sexes of Viera and Hrothgar would be the equivalent of adding another race. Though if it is 6.0 with no word, it will be more a pleasantly surprised if it does come in 7.0 than looking forward to it with hope of an announcement it will come.

I posted to say that I wouldn't play one, but I support the option for players that would. I realize other people play the game and more power to those that ask for the option. I don't like when everyone looks the same in games, so the diversity would indirectly benefit me, I suppose.

Fine for all of you to see it as a discussion, but if a thread has such a specific topic, I do not handle it as a 'throw around whatever you like'. Don't know about your English forums, but the German ones I grew up with were strict about respecting the setting an OP chose.

What is even the point of having a thread for discussion where all you’re allowed to do is support the OP? The alternative is to do what plagues GD right now and have multiple threads coming out reacting to other threads with dissenting opinions and no one wants that.

Everybody is free to post here if they're civil about it, though I don't think it's unreasonable to raise an eyebrow when posters with a consistent track record of speaking out against the thread's premise show up simply to express their 'concern' about other poster's expectations over when male viera may or may not be added.
