No developer or producer should ever encourage its own playerbase to play other games, because it's seen exactly as is: an excuse to slow down the progress, the content and stall everything else. You can white knight Yoshi-P and SE all you want, but I have 20 years of experience playing MMORPGs, and while he may be doing this in good faith, it's actually going to backfire really fast. They're already nerfing the next tier savage, which sure, it's good for raiders, but it's obviously done so people can play the new FFXVI instead.

Yeah, devs should encourage players to no-life their game and their game only, burying them in busy work so they have no time to ever play anything else.

You mean the one thing everybody disliked, requiring a ton of books just to finally get your own gear (if your RNG is bad) so you can make the DPS checks and surviving easier? Dropping from 4 to 3 and 8 to 6 is a good thing for everybody involved.

The game that hopefully will not suffer from writers deciding their ocs are more important than the game world's foundational lore and that will hopefully not be afraid to take time to complete like most other single player games.

If people want to no-life this game, that's their own choice. It's an online game, and we are paying a subscription for it. Are some already not bound by housing or raiding? The game has a variety of content and it's giving you the option to approach it as you like, you can be a hardcore grinder or take it with a laid-back approach, either is fine. My issue is currently Endwalker giving out mediocre content at best, and people defending it it's fine. It's not fine. This is exactly how it played out with Aion and TERA, and look where they stand now.

I know that I'm a FFXIV Fanboy but this poster isn't wrong about watching for content slow-downs, especially after the heavy new content cutting Elder Scrolls Online just did left a bad taste for me.

The content cycle getting longer, for whatever stated reason, can be cause for concern. I don't have alarm bells yet, but it does suggest some reduction in attention the game is getting.

I understand the game is old - but EW from the financials appears to be making XIV more money than ever before in the history of the game - so it's strange to divert resources away from a successful product. I understand when older MMOs just start naturally fading away into a small core playerbase like EverQuest/EQ2, but XIV was growing recently.

Again, I have my doubts that this decision is about improving the stress levels of their developers, just because I doubt any large company pays people the same to do less.

I grew up on games like EQ/XI. I have no interest in MMO's going back to that crap of forcing you to no life the game for even the most basic things like leveling up. Old school XI could take almost a year to reach level cap and then you had to constantly farm resources just so you could use those resources to force pop a world boss that could be stolen by another group.

My main point is that there needs to be balance, and this is no easy task for any MMORPG, don't get me wrong. If they want to cut down the grind, then they should give you something more to do, even if it's short. V&C was a great example, but executed poorly.
