How did the community become this toxic?

I don't think the community overall is toxic. Sure, once every few days I run into an abusive or leeching player. The vast majority of people are nice and chill enough.

It really just depends on what you consider toxic. If you have an opinion and somebody disagrees with you, that's not indicative of toxicity. That just means you can't handle your opinions being criticized. Someone using a strong statement with you like "A topic like this isn't important enough to complain about because of X, Y, and Z", that's not toxicity either as long as they aren't trying to ridicule or demean you.

It may seem toxic if you are a devout, pious, non-swearing extreme-Christian who above all believes people should be of the upmost proper moral character everywhere they go. This is just how normal people talk. If you can take this type of language in a verbal conversation, you should be able to take it in written form, without losing your mind and shouting that you've been victimized.

This happens to all communities as a game ages.

I just like the fact that escaping toxicity is easier in this game. If people really start railing against you for no good reason, you can hop FCs, hop servers, etc, and suddenly everything is fine again.

In games like ESO, the toxicity is there from the moment you enter a zone to moment you leave the zone. There's no escaping it because it's everywhere.

Truth. Some like Overwatch it is everywhere. It's just people now.

I suggest that if anybody thinks this community is toxic they need to go spend time immersed in the cesspool known as Dead By Daylight and get some perspective.

This community is actually pretty tame. Do we have bad actors? Sure, who doesn't? But our levels are the lowest of all the MP games I rotate through.

The game was toxic from the very beginning.
I remember when there wasn't DF yet and people we're constantly screaming in Mor Dhona lfm no noobs, no low dps :p
Thats why I stopped playing back then...

Oh boi i remember those times like it was yesterday.
The strong and blind fanboism blizzard and their game had, it was so big that it killed another mmorpg wildstar (which i loved to play), because it was not "the wow killer" which people were joking about back then, i remember people saying wow was the best mmorpg and king of the mmorpgs and all rest games were s***. FFXIV was in the same bracket so was ESO, called by wow fanboys "this is s*** wow is better". xD

The times changed and people grown up haha.

I dont feel bad now for WoW going downhill straight to hell, let it buuurnnn.

Toxicity isn't caused by gaming communities. It's caused by IRL Society... >.>

However no one with any authority to do so is going to take the measures needed to actually fix society in an ethical manner, because they're more concerned with saying and doing what people want just to be liked rather than what people need. As such the only way I see society actually getting fixed is by removing a noticeable amount of humanity off the planet.
