Hopefully; even if they take up that lore there's no reason for why they shouldn't be around. mMiqote is basically in the same boat as them. It's a matter of letting them be playable and keeping the NPC males scarce to fit with the lore. Other players characters don't count, as it were.

An improved take on the elezen model is far more likely. It's closer to the concept art that's worth taking seriously, too. Ultimately it's unlikely that they're going to risk ignoring Matsuno and divert too far from his desired vision and aesthetics. His designs are almost always classically handsome/ruggedly handsome so it's a safe bet that under his care they'd be along those lines.

I agree on this. A more improved model of the elezen model would actually be perfect for me. Less of a neck, a little more muscle mass and better emotes? I'd be all over that. And regarding Matsuno - yeah, that's also something not to be ignored. Basche literally has the body type he was describing in regards to mViera. It's funny how Basche was supposed to be the main character of FF12 but they made him change it so Vaan was created.

Slap some bunny ears on Basche and turn his nose up a little. Bam, perfect.

The female that was accompanying you remarks that usually it takes a few arrows to bring down that beast. I believe it's an entry for one of the gear design contests so, while SE holds copyright over the image, it's not official SE artwork.

That said, I would be ok with a larger height slider, I don't particularily care if they're taller or smaller than the females as long as it's not an Au Ra-like dimorphism.

And as far as I remember, that's actually a misblame: Vaan was always considered to be the main character but originally he was going to be older, rougher, and more jaded. But was indeed made younger and prettier to appeal to the JP fanbase. Basch was one of the last characters designed, and may have recieved points from Vaan's earlier design, which is where the rumor may have come from.

Well Yoshi did say "Elegant" and "like a miqote cross with Elezen"
So its a safe bet they would be a "fixed" Elezen with Miqote Aesthetic like regular Viera

And i do hope they have a hair style like in the Art Tabbs posted (which was a runner up design contest winner)

'Elegant' has a pretty broad definition in itself. Ryu Hayabusa is pretty elegant, though he's also pretty beefy:

Well from that quote they said that they take in "as much as possible" so its still open how much that is. They could easily use most of the ff12 for female Vieras and introduce more FF14 only lore for the males.

In the end there is no true description of them in FF14. As long as their look is not comfirmed I see no problem with people wishing on how they look and I dont understand that one hijiacks a race because of that. There is simply nothing there to base it on and no matter what we write SE will decide it on their own anyways.

That does not sound fierce to me, it sound more like the males are just better at shooting animals. (I mean realistically you just need one shot if it hits fataly) I remember a side quest where she was saved from a male but said that they have gone hiding again because of the WoL coming to the scene.

In the end female Au Ra can take on enemies that are at a whole different scale and yet they dont look that fierce either.

Yeah, but this Viera was actually surprised* it was fell with one arrow. Though that seems like a want to just build up the fact this mViera killed multiple of those beasts with one arrow a shot, saved the girl and then was quick/fast enough and stealthy enough to escape the area as soon as he saw us. Which, given the fact WoL/WoD has god-like a sixth sense to hone in on people who are watching/looking at them - is impressive.

*Regarding that fViera - she was surprised it was fell with one arrow because she only knew of one type of person who could do such 'handy work' - a mViera. She thought they had all perished.

We - the WoL/WoD can't even take down those beasts with one hit.

The women are described as just as formidable, but the females also have a sporty/model like body. The males should be pretty/handsome by default. Otherwise, all fViera somehow take after their mothers. Which is weird for a race that is hellbent on having the men being the strongest of the strong in endurance and survivability. The women-only allows the 'master alpha males' to breed. That's not something I doubt they'll retcon giving the previous statement where they said that matsuno helped with that and they're not about to spin it to their own directive. Which is good really. Matsuno's idea of a mViera is likely to be the one we will get, if at all.

As for the comment regarding them changing it. Of course, they can, literally, the only thing that describes them is one supposed comment from a female Viera saying they're 'mad' and 'muscular' - which I'm hunting down to find. And of course the lore from FF14. Which doesn't have a descriptive in their physical appearance. Only their cold personality. They shoot to kill.

Anyway, we know they're there and we know they're having children. Since a pixie literally said they're scared of Vii children. Perhaps, just perhaps we might see one. Seeing as they seemed to have lessened their workload. Only one dungeon next patch, we will see. They're adding in a lot more lore going by the previous stream they had.

I'm unsure why people have such an aversion to them being fierce. The female Viera as they are now can be described as fierce.

I don't think anyone here is averse to them being called fierce. Some of us are just saying that the term "fierce" doesn't necessarily describe their appearance.

Also, like I said, male and female viera are both equally as strong. Yet the female viera look like victoria secret models. They are just as fierce as the males, but they don't look barbaric like some people suggest the males look like. The females have bodies similar to elezen, and faces similar to miqo'te, and that's probably what the males will look like as well. Slim, handsome, and elegant. That specific male viera that shot the arrow was either abnormally strong, or it was just a tongue in cheek cutscene to show that male viera are out there and always watching.

I think barbaric is literally in their style. The clothes the vii are wearing are tribalistic, which could be also described as barbaric. They don't have to be chewing at peoples throats. It's just a synonym for primitive; which fur-like skin clothing, such as loin clothes would fit under. It's why if you google Barbarian, you're going to see muscular men wearing loincloths and furs. He can still move with elegance or have an air of elegance and yet still come across as a cold killer who has spent all of his life simply 'surviving' and 'killing' - we can't ignore the fact their lore strictly has them as men who are constantly doing that.

A man, can still look primitive in regards to what he wears and still look handsome and elegant. But if you think about it, does the imagery of a very well kept male who's wearing top of fashion spring to mind when you read about them. Nah. Stick an Elezen in the Vii tank clothes and go warrior - there. An elegant barbarian. Which, is a really nice look BTW, you get similar imagery if you go DRG.

TBH, Viera looks like that because they trimmed the parts of them that look barbaric. The females are supposed to be armed with claws, on both the feet and the hands. And their wood warden armour looks nothing like the outfit that Fran is wearing. The wood wardens that are female in FF12 look like actual amazonian warriors.

Well, good. I don't think I ever said I want them to the size they're beefy barbarians. I expect them to be well developed and have a defined muscle development. More toned than an elezen, but not as beefy as a Highlander.

And the Vii and Viera most def have different armours; mainly as the Vii don't seem to have civilians. They're all warriors. Happens when your race is dying out I suppose. Well, the ones that didn't leave their villages anyway. But then again, the Vii there took up another 'culture' the Ronkas after they originally lost their home and were taken in by that specific civilisation/ That culture was very 'aztec', while the Viera haven't been intruding upon. Not that it matters me thinks, other than Vii men and Viera men will probably have different clothes.

I wouldn't personally call this fierce in the sense of war or battle. It looks more like catwalk fierce or bedroom fierce. Her silhouette is literally a short dress or hourglass -- complete with "big boss woman" stereotyped shoulder puffs and even a thigh window. The kind of fierce some users are trying to describe for male Viera definitely doesn't conjure up the same image as what I'm seeing here on this female Viera.

If we're ok with putting a male viera in a similar outfit to this and calling it fierce, then you have my stamp of approval lol.

Fierce in quotes, as most associate fierce to mean a narrower sense of everything it actually encompasses, like bloodthirstiness, cruelty or hostility, though still not limited to what I've just listed here. A shot does not necessarily mean fatal - animals and people alike have survived wounds that should be fatal, like behind shot through the head, especially with a more basic projectile such as an arrow.

Again, most apply fierce as a term in a much narrower sense than what it actually means. A diminutive Auri female is no less fierce than her towering male counterpart, especially in the case of Xaela.

I am not sure if you need to do the work to search for that quote if its not something in FF14. As long as they have not shown us a male or describe it in FF14 any other game should not count as a way to show how they are.

I also dont have anything against them being fierce. (Which kinda just mean aggressive anyway) I just dont like it that some posters seemingly see being fierce as a confirmation to them needing to be big and muscular. We have fierce female Au Ra (look at Sadu) and yet they are small and teenager-like in their look.

In the end there is right now nothing in the lore or ingame that would go against many of the very different wishes (the only one confirmed to not be the case is them looking more like children) on how the males should look and its a fantasy game too, so I see no reason why people cant just simply write down their version of it without being seen as someone that hijacks a race.

Edit: And again I am not sure why we are using FF12 armor here (and honestly it does not look barbaric to me) because we already have a starter set for Vieras ingame and it looks more like they are ready to go to a model show than to fight all the time in a forest.

I am not sure why shooting an animal with one arrow (and no matter if some can survive wounds or not, most will probably die if they are hit in certain areas) counts as aggressive, bloodthristy, cruel or hostil. They are just shooting them down. I would even say that being able to kill an animal with one arrow is even kind since the animal does not have to suffer for long.

I mean hunters in our world that kill animals with one shot wont count as fierce?

Anyone can swing a sword. Not everyone swings a sword the same way, even under the same conditions (IE: hunting or defense). If you can't catch the meaning, then there's nothing more that can be said.

And if I am a sword master does not make me fierce. (As in the way of them being hostil, bloodthirsty and other more negative forms of that word)

So him shooting a beast with one arrow just means that this one male is a master with the bow. Seeing how even Lalas can become great archers I see no reason to have this as an confirmation that males are a certain way. It simply just means that the male was able to kill it swiftly and go away silently afterwards.

Again: Anyone can shoot a gun, a hunter in our world shooting it to one hit kill a deer would seemingly not count as him being fierce. He is just good at it.

Are people still coming up with this dumb "even a lala" argument? There is nothing in the lore to say female Viera or Au Ra are as physically strong as their male counterparts. Can they, through magical augmentation (e.g. class/job, materia, Echo etc.) potentially match one? Maybe. But it doesn't come free. Resource limitations are a thing.

I'd like to see a citation of any lore stating that female Viera are equivalent to the males in raw physical strength.

I think Alleo has a point, and I don't think its fair to call it a dumb argument when Lalafells can in fact be adept at shooting a bow or wielding an axe (and on top of that, its fiction). Look at Pipin.

But to your point: I don't think its a matter of physical strength. The Wandering Dramaturge does state that the female Viera are "as formidable as" their men when asked about Viera culture. That doesn't necessarily mean physical strength, but I don't see why it wouldn't if we're to assume that male and female Viera share a similar stature (and considering the Viis in Rak'tika are primarily seen using physical weapons and not magic, with exception).

To add on to Alleo's point, I don't think the one male Viis being good at archery is any indicator that he looks a certain way or has a certain build... no more than Pipin being adept with a large sword is an indicator of his size or build. Male Viis/Viera likely just practice archery more than any other form of combat given that they're known as silent defenders.

The women could likely learn to draw a bow with the same handiwork as the men, "they merely choose to devote their attention to the protection of their hearth and young" as the Dramaturge put it. It's likely not that the men are more biologically capable, their situation just asks that they put more work into being good at it.

It'd be rather strange for the men to be exactly the same as the women given that they live completely different lifestyles. Though what little we do know about male viera paints them as being fierce and strong. No doubt that will have some influence over their appearance. Especially if Matsuno has an opportunity to put forward his input on the matter...which is likely to be the case if they're ever added to the game.

I doubt it's a coincidence that some of the same posters pushing for male viera to be short, androgynous and/or feminine are also the same posters who attempting to redefine the meaning of certain words.

Is there even one for Au Ra and that the females are weaker than the males? Its a fantasy game and the females are taking part in the exact same things as males do, we even have a pure female only tribe that is able to survive. Even if there are some magical reasons for certain races to be as strongh (and I am not sure if they are ever mentioned ingame) then this could perfectly fit with the Viera males too...there is nothing ingame that states that a male must be always stronger than the female either. They just need to be strongh enough to survive. And that can be done with lots of stealth too.

The word fierce that is not even there in most of the offical text in many lanugages? (And not even in the english one on the SE side) Also fierce can mean a lot of things as we learned the last few pages. It can simply mean being aggressive. I can tell you that my little dog (who was a hunting breed) was more fierce in quite some situations than a lot of the bigger ones.

Also what would you call Sadu? I see her as fierce. She is aggressive, bloodthirsty and can be quite hostile if she needs to be. Yet she is not looking the part.

This is a fantasy game. And I dont see how there is anything wrong with people pointing out how they would have wanted their viera...it wont change how SE wants it. But as long as there are no ingame FF14 descriptions or the males being finally there, you cant just point out how they are hijacking something...no its simply their idea...and it should not be a problem to voice that opinion in this thread. They are no hijacking anything more than those that want really buff guys.

It's a fantasy game, but only the very worst ones, when it comes to world-building, eschew having an internal logic as to why things work the way they do or are as they are. SE has gone to the efforts of differentiating the races (e.g. Lalafell are noted as physically weaker than other races), and yes, male Au Ra are stronger than the females in the absence of magic augmentation (hence why the Buduga engage in the strategy they do), which again, is not free and does not come without costly training. Not everyone is the WoL or an adventurer or a high ranking member of a wealthy city-state, with plenty of materia and magic equipment at their disposal. In the absence of such factors, differences between genders and races do exist in the setting and are factors in the decisions made.

Women simply partaking of the same activities as men will not mean they're as good at them as the males in and of itself. It just means they're partaking of the same activities.

The fact that the races differ physically implies they faced different evolutionary pressures and this factored into mate selection; Lalafell are specifically called out for being weaker than the other races. You can play dumb and try ignore this by bringing up red herrings and choosing to not process what factors into those, but it's not going to convince anyone outside of the echo chamber which is already in alignment with your desire for cutesy bunny bois. Their decision to specialise by having the males be solitary hunters defending the woods, whilst the females remain at home to protect the villages, means each gender is facing different challenges, and will affect their mating strategies over the course of their evolution.

Can SE just ignore all that and e.g. make them look soft and weak? Sure, but I doubt they will.

You used the word "strong", so I wanted to clarify what the exact quote was. As I thought, it refers to their prowess in more general terms.

I can see Male Viera in the future. Female Hrothgar... that's gonna be a tough one.. I rather not think on it

I still think Senn's suggestion, as quoted from the OP, is the best compromise. It's proven to be very popular within this very thread after all with multiple people having it in their signature.

It's not overly bulky, it resembles an adult and it's fairly masculine. Most importantly, it doesn't resemble a child - which we know Yoshi-P ruled out as a possibility.
