Fun story: when I was a child I knew that the monster under my bed had 1 metre long arms. So while it was light I measured a 1m radius around my bed so I could tell where the danger zone was. Then at night when I turned off the light by the door I would approach the zone and then while still safe, jump that metre to get into bed. As I got older I would start to run up and jump with more force. Until one day i jumped too hard and broke through the slats supporting the mattress. Parents came racing in when they heard the crash, and then spent a while trying to convince me that there was no monster under the bed -
