You know, it's reasons like this why WoW is still the #1 mmorpg in the world. Because for all Blizzard's faults, at least amateur things like this do not happen and if they do, Blizzard explains every step taken.

This is about as big of a cop-out as I've seen. Also, D3 and Overwatch exist on console, so that deep sixes that argument from the word go. Both companies are at fault here, and to say otherwise is either disingenuous, naive, or both.
"They're fixing it"
NOT GOOD ENOUGH. The subs of PS4 players are JUST AS GOOD as PC players. We should not be an afterthought, and bugs like this that only affect one platform should not be excused or dismissed as "Oh well smaller playerbase lol".
We are being screwed out of gametime that we paid for because of a drastic oversight in basic design. We are owed recompense.
A few things since this thread has now hit 100 pages of complaints (over 1000 posts).
For those complaining it's happening to you multiple times: Since this is an international issue, if you can afford one in the country you are playing, please get a backup UPS/Battery Surge protector. Not all of them are excessively expensive. I know that there is a surge protector for 4 outlets that has backup battery as low as 45 in the US. This WILL NOT help you if you leave the PS4 in rest mode overnight, so you'll unfortunately have to power it off. This is against Sony's design of it supposed to be staying in rest mode so it can receive updates to the software. Complaining it's happening to you five times looks silly on you, if you live in an area where you cannot maintain power since after the first few times knowing that's the reason you get this error...you keep doing it.
For the other part. I'm exceptionally disappointed with Square's response on this matter and pointing fingers at Sony. While Sony may also not be that great, if I went into a fast food joint and they couldn't serve drinks because Coca Cola producer ran out of Soda for them, I'm gonna be somewhat sympathetic but at the end of the day, I still put blame on the food joint, because I came to their place to get something to eat. It is absolutely SE's responsibility to keep the customers updated on this issue.
What puzzles me more is the lack of response. Normally Japan is a culture of prostration when things go wrong. While the American or other cultures don't understand or think that Japan lacks sincerity when they apologize. It feels like they're not even apologetic at this point and it feels worse. Like no one cares. That's one of the worst impressions to leave to your customers.
As far as being compensated. I'm a bit on the fence but leaning towards yes players should be compensated for this. It's not because this unfortunate bug is happening. I get it, and bugs do happen. It is for the following reasons:
1. No notification for 2 weeks on the Lodestone that this was an issue. Simply unacceptable. Players should not be finding out after the fact and do forum digging, when it happens. You stated in the forums it was a known issue, but did not take action to give caution to other PS4 players to TAKE PRECAUTIONS so that some could prevent it from happening.
2. Lack of communication to your PS4 playerbase. Regardless if it's the same news, no response is worse. It makes it feel like your players are being ignored. I get that you probably don't want to post "Sorry" over and over again, but something to show you care is better than this void right now.
I normally cast off those that scream "cancelling my sub" as some kind of silly rage, and I'm generally sympathetic to a lot of plights of Game Development and Customer service (being in the industry or friends that work it), but this really has been frustrating to see in this regard.
Consoles will come to dominate gaming. The PC is for doing boring things. That's why we leave them at work.

...and the issue with PS4 redownloading the client after a power outage deserves address.
Come on SE. Show SONY how to stay the path moving forward.
5th time.
I'm done with this piece of shit.
Well, I'm back! After TWO weeks of enjoying my FFXIV, it happened again! My FFXIV was running, suspended @ the start screen, suspended in the background while I was watching Amazon Video on Demand app. The power wasn't even off long enough to reset digital clocks! Of course, I fell asleep watching TV shows ;) Woke up, said 'oh no' and fired up FFXIV, yup! Hello big d/l. Square Enix, you can blame this on Sony all you want, but your game is the ONLY program on my PS4 that is having this issue. It's YOUR responsiility to see it fixed and communicate to you customers what YOU are doing about it.
I am absolutely fuming í ½í¸¤ mad í ½í¸¡ as hell right now as my electric never ever flickers or goes out unless it's a major storm or whatever, and yet I just sat down really getting into Final Fantasy 14 on the ps4 pro, as I'm currently a level 19 on the free trial, and so far I'm loving this game it's incredible, and yet as I was saying a sat down started playing just progressed to the Uldah envoy quest line took the flight to gridania, and wow I'm really into the game just got a really great buzz going form my suboxone I just took, and then bam boom kaboom the electric goes it for about 5 seconds, and comes right back online, and I start back up Final Fantasy 14, and I'm staring at a launcher patch of nearly 16 gb in size, and it's telling me almost 100 minutes as it's downloading at a rate of 3.38mb per second on a 100+mb connection, and I'm so pissed off it killed my buzz totally because now I can't play anything else either while waiting as I gotta wait this shit out or cancel, And download later tonight while I'm asleep, either way it seems as though this issues been effecting everyone since the expansion came out or whatever, and now it's July 8, 2017 and the problem still hasn't been fixed, and I absolutely won't be buying the full game unless n until this issue is corrected as this is total amateur style development bullshit
It's officially monsoon season in the desert, that means more random poweroutages. Just got hit with one and now have to redownload all 22.9 gigs. Not cool.
This is still a problem just happened to me had a brief power failure and now have to redownload the game
Third time....
Honestly for you all that is on this for the 4th, 5th, 6th times..its your own fault at this point. They havnt said a single thing about it being resolved yet you continue to play when you know a power outage is gonna happen and then come on here and flame them. You're not getting anything done and don't know whats going on behind the scenes anyway. So lets chill on SE. We all know those who are crying "im done with this game" are not gonna quit playing.
Alright but the alternative to trying to play the game still in spite of power outages is not playing the game at all, which people are paying for to play, and are still paying for despite this bug, and people have a right to be upset at that. I mean I don’t know what you’re trying to achieve here. Let people be upset. Who cares if they stop playing the game or not. Of course being upset isn't going to fix it, but you can't possibly expect people to just be happy considering the circumstances.
This is my first time posting something in the forums, although i've being following this thread since page 2.
I'm going for my 7th time to download the patch, first couple of times I was mad and then I started to try to avoid the power outages (in my country the power goes off on a specific time, sometimes). When it happened I was mad but not as much as the first couple of times.
Today I played a little bit this morning after having to download the patch the night before and I decided to take a break, logged out, close the application and turned off my ps4. 40 minutes later and turned on my ps4 and everything was okay, then when I tried to log in the freaking patch shows up... That was it for me. Not only I need to be concerned when the power goes off but now when I turn off the ps4 properly too? Come on. It's going to be a month since this started and we pay for a service that we can't even enjoy properly, all I ask is that give more information or work faster I dont know but do something.
Hey everyone! This is my first time posting here so yay! Uh this happened to me for the first time, and I looked it up (being directed here) I understand that it is a lengthy process and SE are trying to find a fix, so I won't add anything else, but just commenting to say that I was affected too! :)
It just happened to me. No power outage at all and I exited the game via the Gridanian Inn. As my internet is slow, it will probably take 1-2 days to fully download. Not happy Sony/SE.
This literally just happened to me. I had no issues whatsoever when I logged off and turned off my PS4. But had a very small power outage, didn't last long, PS4 turned back on so I go to relog in only to find out it's updating. For no reason. Now I have to wait forever to be able to play and hope to god this problem doesn't happen again! I wish there was a simple quick fix for this but apparently there is not. Just.. really SE? This is unacceptable.
I understand the frustration of all of you since I have to deal with this too. But some of you need to grow up.
22gb at 0.14mb/s.
End me please.
Really wish I could play something else on my PS4 while it was downloading...
Trolls gotta troll. If you stop feeding them they get bored and wander off to try and get a rise out of someone else ;)
I think this should be a thing...
Refunds all round or at least an extension for those with the loyalty, if there are still loyal players of the game.
I've been playing since 2014, these types of problems don't get attention until people start making it a public thing. I quit the game 3 times because of issues.. I came back.. this is just daylight robbery.
I've lost 1 weeks of my gameplay after installing (downloading patch) over a week. Still hasn't been sorted so...what do i do with the game time I have left?
Listen guys I've experienced my first power outage for about 5 seconds yesterday, and of course I had to re download the entire patch, however I'm thinking that a possible fix or resolution for this could be simple.
Okay so yea listen the next time anyone has a power outage while playing the game DO NOT IMMEDIATELY TURN ON YOUR PS4 console following a power surge, but instead AFTER THE PS4 shuts down due to the power outage MAKE SURE YOU ENTER INTO SAFE MODE WHEN YOU TURN ON YOUR CONSOLE AGAIN VIA HOLDING IN THE POWER BUTTON FOR AROUND 7 to 8 seconds until you hear two beeps, then once into safe mode immediately HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON AGAIN FOR ANOTHER 7 to 8 seconds until you hear two beeps to perform a hard shut down from safe mode, and then once the ps4 has been shut back down again then repeat the initial safe mode boot process again, and upon entering into safe mode make sure to choose the rebuild database option which usually only takes a few minutes to complete, and don't worry it will say it might take a long time but it won't trust me it takes just a few seconds to a few minutes at most, and I have this feeling that if we do it this way then the Final Fantasy launcher may not have the chance to realize the power outage ever happened, and so make sure to try this possibly solution, and then please respond I am curious to know if this works for everyone as I would be extremely over joyed to know I helped out my fellow players.
here we go, downloading the game for the 3rd FUCKING TIME this weekend.
Just want to add my 2 cents. jic someone from Sony is actually following this 103 page thread. This happened to me twice in the last week. Once during a known power outage and once for no reason that I know of (left the game on in the back ground and came home to find out that it required a fresh download). Both events happen >2 but <7 days ago. Download time 6 hours if I can make sure no one in the house it using the internet; imagine 3 teenagers and a wife (that is quite infatuated with Netflix, especially allllll night). If folks are on the internet it estimates a 2 day download (luckily I can cheek in and turn nettles off at approximately 3:33am).
One of the hardest gaming choices I had to make was leaving FFXI in 2004 due to poor customer service. This game is really awesome so far. I hope this is taken car of. Continuous 6+ hours download is not a sustainable condition in my house.
Listen I don't think it's fair you're telling others to grow up alright it's been nearly a month with no such fix or resolution from square Enix, and this is absolutely unacceptable as these people pay money each month to play this game, and the fact that some of them have had to repeatedly download this patch again n again is totally unacceptable as you can't play other games you can't watch PlayStation vue, you can't do anything while the launcher re patches itself, and there is no worse feeling then sitting down for a nice enjoyable few hours of Final Fantasy only to have a sudden power surge or power outage n then be forced to have to download the patch all over again ruining your chance n opportunity to play. I think it's totally crazy you wanna call someone immature or tell them to grow up because they're upset n frustrated over an issue that's totally unacceptable, and the fact is squared Enix is making millions of dollars per month off this game, and the fact that this issue has been ongoing for nearly a month is absolutely ridiculous, and they're getting away with this type of unacceptable behavior because there are people like you which wanna pretend this isn't a big deal or it's not a reason to get extremely angry n frustrated because it's very much a serious problem, and for you to try to downplay the issue or tell others to grow up is part of the problem as you accept this sort of lack luster treatment of serious issues of which render a game unplayable for hours upon hours & days upon days for some people depending on the speed of their internet connections, and so yea honestly I feel as though you need to grow up because it's extremely childish n immature for you to be calling out others who are clearly upset n frustrated paying for a service which has been having the same unresolved issue for nearly a month, and these gamers are well within their rights to be as frustrated as they wanna be
I never once said to stop complaining. Keep on complaining and i will continue to do as well until this is fixed. However, some responses here are freaking ridiculous and lack even the most common decency. So no, I won't stop telling people (most likely everyone one of them adults) to grow up.
On the decent behavior issue, I agree. If you had a Black & Decker tool that malfunctioned, and could not get satisfaction from Cust Service, you wouldn't go on their forums dropping the F-bomb in every other sentance. An unprofessional post would be ignored by the company. But because it's a game, you think swearing your head off in a forum post is going to get you the attention you desire from Square Enix? Seriously....
Honestly, it wouldn't be too annoying of a problem if the download speed was faster. Even when everyone in my household wasn't on the internet, the download speed was still slow. And I had put my PS4 into rest mode, wake up to see the client say "Unable to finish patch." and to see it's not even half way finished on downloading...
Also sucks I can't even play any other games while this is downloading since it'll close the application.
I don't mean to get on your case so maybe I was as bad as you so yea I shouldn't have jumped on ya but I just get passionate for others, and I felt maybe you was more less telling them to grow up mainly based upon their complaints which again I don't agree with that, but regardless I think we can all agree nearly a month long for this issue without being fixed is ridiculous n people have a right to bitch n complain, and some complain more than others, and some get more upset than others, and I feel as though they have every right to bitch n complain as much as they feel is necessary as it's makes them feel better to vent, and so be it
OK... Now I'm actually posting about this problem! It's been a stormy weekend and there have three power outages. Twice I was at me keyboard and one time I was afk taking lunch. Last week there was only one power outage, but my wife was playing on our other box at the same time which resulted in two more downloads. That's a total of about 12 hours of gameplay spent coping with SquareEnix and PSN ineptitude in ONE WEEK. I can honestly say that I'm considering the option to unsubscribe from the game. However, I know that will only hurt me since my money isn't worth much in the grand scheme. Should I stop playing and power down at the first sight of rain? Is that the tech service scripted response you lot are repeating?
Well, still with this problem happening, got a power outage today, and need download 20gb because of it. Any predictions when this will be fixed?
I am currently having to re-download the 22+ GB for the 6th or 7th time now since Early Access. This is a serious problem that really ought to be getting a higher priority than it seems to be actually receiving.
The area I live in FL storms almost daily in the Summer and the lights are very prone to flickering. I have been trying to be cautious and just log out of the game whenever I hear thunder, but it seems to keep getting me in dungeon runs where that's not a thing that I could (or even should) just immediately do. Especially as I often play healer and don't want to feel like I'm just leaving the group on its butt because I am worried about an issue that should not even be an issue in the first place.
Also one of the times was just because the system itself went into rest mode while I was on the game, so that was great.
4th time....but at this point i cant expect this to ever get fixed so i had actually ordered a ups off the internet and it should be here tomorrow...we shouldnt be the ones looking for solutions to your fuck ups SE, or even Sony if its really on them. In the end its beneficial to my electronics to get a ups but it shouldnt be something i NEED at this point to feel my game is safe while playing.....
First post here, redownloading for the third time. Is there really no word from SE or Sony at all about this?
