Seriously though, easiest way for SE to manipulate the amount of gil in the system. Too much gil in the system, fewer winners at the golden saucer. Too little? Winner winner chicken dinner! more gil paid out in wins.

I don't know if it has been addressed in this thread or not, and I'm sure that some people will disagree with me, but I feel that the current market board system promotes undercutting in a huge way. The ability to see what everyone else is putting things up for drives people to undercut to sell theirs quicker and thus dropping the price of things by a large amount in a short amount of time. I know on Hyperion the price of a few different items has gone from selling for over 100 gil per all the way down to 1-5 gil per, other higher items dropping from 100k-70k in just a few hours. I played FFXI for years and I liked how the auction house system worked in that game, sure there was still undercutting but not in the drastic way its done in FFXIV. With 90% of dropped items from mobs and from gathering/mining points only being able to npc for 1-2gil its extremely hard to make gil in this game and the market board system the way it is currently is not helping.

I think it would be nice if mobs dropped gil. Normal mobs could drop 1-2gil, in dungeons 5-10gil and bosses from 50-100gil.
We're missing Magic/War Classes to make profit when the quests are gone.

You may say, "Just create a DoH/DoL", but there are those that just dont want to do that.

I'm finishing my BLM and was thinking of level up my CNJ to WHM or SCH, but I cant because I'm running out of gils so I had to lvl up my DoH classes in order to make some money.

No, what drives the undercutting(which btw, is not something that is inherently wrong like many want to think), is simply due to supply and demand, or more specifically, overabundance of supply and a lack of sufficient demand. You as seller in the economy cannot demand others to ignore their own profit so you can have yours. To blame it on market visibility is to showcase your lack of knowledge in the subject. By your logic, economy in games like Eve Online(or for that matter, the real world) would've long since crashed and burned into the ground - not only are other seller's prices visible, detailed market logs are saved and visible for months and years!!

Also, this is for all the people in this thread and others who kept insisting that there was nothing wrong, the deflationary pressure is just a myth etc., from Yoshida himself:

I never said nothing was wrong. I said that *if* something was wrong, Square-Enix would see it better than we could (they control the server software everything runs on, after all) and would have tools ready to hand to fix it. Which, apparently, they are doing. Not, "no, there's nothing wrong" but more "this isn't our problem either to diagnose or to fix".

I feel in this game, you're almost inclined to take on a crafting class like everyday life. It's almost like a virtual job. While I do like the incredibly realistic aspect, I do feel like there should be a few more improvements on Gil generation. Right now, it seems repairs, teleportation and Market Board fees are the main Gil sink--and slowly dries the economy. We need a solid Gil generation programme or system. Hell; I made enough money selling Allegan pieces, but they become very scarce once the game is complete. Maybe make a dungeon or repeatable quest that offers around 4-5 Pieces depending on how well the quest is completed? Perhaps add Allegan piece rewards to all the types of Leves?

Just a few blunt ideas. Other than the Gil generation area in lacking, I find it fairly easy to come across Gil. I think leveling a crafting / gathering class in this game really helps build a stable gil income, albeit it takes some time, and money itself to get there.

Surprised this topic went on as long as it did.

Wish I could say I care about it as this point.

But sadly me and many other 1.0 players are still unable to sub back up.

Just remember though that it is either you or your banks fault if you can not sub up and get your account locked and get 401/601 errors, well according to SE anyhow.

Wish you all the luck in creating suggestions on gil generation for those that can still play after their current time is up that otherwise good luck wish I could be playing as well.

DoH/DoL is not a solution. Eventually once everyone who is playing long term hits 50 in everything, there is no need to buy materials or crafted items. It only benefits those who rush to hit the crafts early and bleed dry the mid-late players who cant make the stuff on their own.
Gil source needs to be external and equal in source. Quests and gil drops from monsters need to continue indefinatly past 50 to some degree. The Daily quests is a good first step. I'd like to see more gil/kill from trash as a constant reward system. How that bunny dropped 25 gil has always been a mystery in any Final Fantasy game, but one ive enjoyed.

when ever a spammer uses a gil selling site in the spam is added to your blacklist you gain 100,000 gil as a reward while the account in question is automatically added to a investigate for TOS violations list. like the NSA each named accounts chat is run through a filter to identify if they are indeed spamming gil sites then flagged for it and the blacklisters rewarded the 100k for each actual spammer.

kill two birds with one stone give the victims of spam a reward for blacklisting spammer and cut the legs out of under the gil sellers business by paying people to blacklist the spammers.
