Why Casual Friendly Would Stop ARR From Dying

I really really enjoyed Skirmish and actually saw it as a very midcore style raid. Anyone can join without having too much of a strategy set in stone. It was easy enough for anyone to join yet hard enough that you have to pay attention. The drop rate was decent and the rewards were worthy of the fight. It was fun.

As for outdated primal weapons, I like the idea of Tapers only found in primal fights, but this may be a problem with the whole roaming primals thing. I read earlier a thread about a Chocobo breeding idea, and things like breeding items could bring veteran players back to older fights. Like getting a fire based breeding item from Ifrit to breed red chocobos. I am curious as to what type of incentive the devs will put in to get us older players to do older raids again.

As long as Ifrit has more than just weapons and red chocobo and is not useless, it sounds great!

I might catch some flack for this lol. This is where RNG comes in. If we got things too often, who will you team up with when everyone already got their gear and moved on? Let's keep it 100, no one. We need time sinks and some RNG (not to asinine levels). So you can join in while people are still trying for theirs as well.

There is much deserved RNG hate. However, it has its purpose and we take it for granted.

We also throw around the word balance a lot. A little imbalance is ok. When in fact it's our own entitlement that makes us not enjoy content when we just want it now. We hide it behind saying things like, make the fight harder. When we all know, soon as the strat is found, we just emulate or exploit (Garuda: "Hi guys") then when everyone has the gear, there is no one left to do it with. We are our own worst enemy and it's about time we just admit it.

I'm talking about myself included fyi. I hated hamlet. In fact, I still do. Yet, I sucked it up, got my seals within 3 days, and finished the relic quest at the end of the week. I can't even deny that I had a somewhat good time in those 3 days doing it. (albeit resentfully good! lol)

MMO=Time sink.(Keep us paying/playing) How they cover it up, is up to them. If the story is good and the battles are Challenge/Fun, sign me up.

There are ways to cover up time sinks, and there are ways you don't. The OP's suggestion is the latter.

How about a hat-based economy?

+1 great post. only a few points. I know many casual players that want long term goals and chellenges so that really isn't just a hard core thing. time requirements can be managed to suit most people. I'm not supporting unreasonable everything must be 30 mins at most limits but i think anything over 90 minutes 2 hours could be structured to support check points or something similar. and while 1.0 had no content that required more than an hour arr is getting bigger dungeons that take longer to clear. how much longer i don't know. if a dungeon takes 3 hours haveing a check point half way is no bad thing. having a check point every 10-15 minutes i can agree is ridiculous...

the hnms imo i disagree while it's true anyone could theoretically find them it required a lot of time to camp get pop times etc and often mass tons of claim bots. thus it really was innaccessible to many.

I think this explains a huge degree of the problem. I consider my self a casual gamer from a perspective of time. others percieve a casual gamer from a perspective of difficulty and stuff being easy.

casuals often have plenty of time to dedicate to goals it just may not be huge chunks of several hours.

Exactly, it doesn't mean causal players want easy stuff. I started playing video games since I was almost 2 years when my older brother and I got our first Nintendo Christmas of 1987. I can tell you I am so addicted on video games and I used to be a hardcore player in XI when I was young. Now, I am old and causal because I have a life I need to manage MY time.
