This is definitely how glamours should work and would solve not just your complaint but many others.

Though I'll point out that robes are not a female-only thing. Robes are a pretty classic magic-user clothing item across a range of subgenres and worn by males and females, so I do disagree that WHM gear having robes means it was designed "for women".

Up until devs said they'd make the Gamblers set unisex, it was assumed for a long time that both was gender locked and that caused a riot. It was less that and more one was an actual FF character and the other...was a bunny girl. Many people even suggested that a Quistis outfit be included to balance it out if not just make the Gambler outfit unisex.

If you are showing off cleavage in excess, you have designed gear that is curved. It's not just "covering" or something. The entire gear piece has a curve to it to cover the areas. If you want to slap that gear on a man, it will have the same curves to cover his man-boobs.

The point is that since lalafell are all flat-chested, regardless of gender, the fact that they can fit the gear to a female lalafell proves that not only can they remove that curvature from the bust area of the outfit, but they're in fact already doing so. So they should similarly be able to remove that curvature from the gear when fitting it to a male of any race, just as they already do when fitting it to a lala girl.

Tough cool-looking outfits end up being justifiably unisex because both genders want to look tough and cool. The part SE is ignoring, though, is that both genders also want to be able to look sexy. There are a few pieces, like the swimsuits and the Coleseum/Taffeta shawl that both genders have access to, as equivalents in one case and unisex (though with different looks) in the other. But then lately, SE has been designing their "sexy" outfits to be female exclusive.

Both with the gold saucer outfits and now with the new Thavnairian ones, they made one sexy outfit and one cool outfit and gave the cool outfit to both genders but the sexy one only to females. They made two things in both cases, but the two were never equivalents. The match to a sexy look for one gender isn't a cool outfit for the other gender; it's a sexy outfit for the other gender. Then if they want to make a cool looking outfit as well, that will be for both.

In the case of the Thavnairian set, it wouldn't take much in the way of adjustments to make it look sexy on a male. Nozomi showed how in her thread on the topic. (I especially liked the last couple examples in her opening post there, the ones that altered the top significantly, but the earlier examples showing a more direct port of the female version only adjusted to fit also look good.) The equivalent of a female bellydancer outfit is a male bellydancer outfit.

In the case of the Gold Saucer's bunny outfit, a direct adaptation wouldn't work as well (except for the ears, which should be unisex). That would end up pairing a sexy look on females with a comical look on males, which isn't really a proper equivalent. That one would need something else as a corresponding male outfit. Something modeled after Chippendale's dancers would probably make a good playboy bunny equivalent. So in that case, they'd have to design two sets. And yes, designing two sets is more work than designing one, but SE should know that if they're going to design an outfit for half the characters to look sexy, they need one for the other half as well. They shouldn't design the one if they're not willing to design the other.

The only reason I can see for not making chippendale outfits is because, minuse the ears (which should be unisex) you can make it yourself with the Emperor's New Shirt and the right pants. A BLM in my old FC had a look like that (if I recall right, he had the evenster hat and tights, mog ribbon and taffela shawl). Then again, you'd probably need the cuffs for the full look, I'm not sure. But yeah, that's just a guess. I may be giving SE more credit than they deserve.

In regards to the bunny suit, a male equivalent that won't take too much effort and exists in the game if your'e creative enough is a Chip and Dale dancer

They're relatively popular, but most importantly isn't too hard to create: With all else being equal, they can use something similar to the summer trunks or if they're very conservative: tights

Ah, bowtie! Knew I forgot something. I guess that could be like the charms on summerwear, but then there's the risk of clipping with neck accessories...although aside from the mog ribbons I doubt any would overlap that badly...

The bunny ears come with a tiara. I'd like to see that removed if its made unisex. Though, like many have said before, I'd rather see new exclusive male designs than handing us down bras and skirts.

To which people ask "Why should a man of my stature have to wear a dress?" But it's all a double standard in clothing these days. Historically robes may be for the learned and wise, but that doesn't matter because TODAY heaven forbid a guy casually in a traditional kilt. You can only get away with that kind of thing at a cultural event. I do also agree that it's kinda silly that ALL of the options are long robes or habits though for healers. Case in point being Arachne Bolero (Caster) vs Arachne Robe (Healer). Feminine? No. But it's still a tendency to make Healers exclusively have long flowing gear even more so than DPS mages.

I don't mind all the long robes and such myself, but it would be nice to have more functional or stylish gear for healers sometimes, I agree.

I agree nearly completely with the stuff that you're saying Niwashi, my only issue with making significant adjustments to the outfit instead of going to a quick near 1 to 1 and you're going to run into some issues with girl PCs wanting the outfits more akin with the male version (In which you might run into it being turned unisex) or you run into the problem when there's already a "male" equivalent and it's already the unisex option. Like, I'm not too sure how we'd work into a more masculine version of the spring dress or the bride's maid set and still keep with the theme or tackle with the issue of the unisex option already being the male version.
