There was never any promise to not gender lock races.... Where are people getting that info?
It's one of those things people repeat but never source ... yet they just KNOW it's true somehow.
It's funny because we can source a quote from the man from the time shortly after releasing ARR where he says the idea of male Viera is weird and they would have to find something different for males if they ever did add in Viera ... yet somehow people keep saying he promised no more mono-genders, as if it was some moral stance he made or line he said he'd never cross..
There wasn't. But SE did state in an interview they did not like gender locked races. But SE go back on a lot of things they say. So I would take anything that comes out of Yoshi's mouth with a heavy pinch of salt.
Yeah that irked me - Bunny girls in heels and thongs are OK but bunny boys would be weird to exist in game?
And in other interviews he stated that after introducing Fran they saw how well liked beastial races were thus they thought about introducing one. Honestly their reasonings are changing a lot through different interviews. Vieras were already on the table with Heavensward, we even got artwork of them. They had a bigger role in a raid before the new expansion...so I really doubt that Hrothgar came first and Viera was after that. Because if they already had the Hrothgar race planned, why were they not introduced in the expansion before their release? Why give the Vieras a whole region on the first and let us visit it, while most Hrothgar are just side characters in the story? Why were the Viera shown first and nothing was told about Hrothgar until the last fanfest?
There are interviews were they said that Hrothgar came first, but they are also others who stated the opposite.
In the end one complete race (no matter which of the two) would have been much better. One race to introduce us to, one race to write lore for. One race that can be introduced to us so that they not just suddenly pop up. Instead they divided their power, which in turn made it bad for both imo.
(Also it was still burly man and sexy woman, because they still could have choosen male Viera and female Hrothgar and keep Fran as a possible teaser for the missing female Viera)
So on one side people should not put their personal view in this (which is hard in a discussion because we are all shaped by our personal experience and likes) but at the same time these races are introduced because they appeal to certain people? Isnt that kinda the same? In my personal view I like tall and slender men, so if SE introduce them because more people like them, isnt that serving to my own personal view?
Viera is fanservice. They introduced that race to us by using a well liked character from another game and even though they have their own lore and their own lifestyle they also wear what Fran wears as racial gear..something which imo makes no sense to wear in the forest and that makes them look like sexy tall women.
(Tropes are anywhere btw and are not necessarily bad.)
So Midlanders and Miqote are feminine to you? The two builds that are mostly just average males? Many men around the world will probably groan if they read that just because they are average in height and not bulky they are suddenly feminine. Elezen is tall and slender but their faces are far from feminine either. Lalafells are in their own category.
So we have now two really bulky men, three taller races which varying muscle mass, two average builds and one Lalafell.
If you're going to protest about being upset with no Male Viera then be civil about it. I see people threatening to cancel subscriptions/ Riot/ etc. You only make yourselves look worse and I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't get what you want. Those kind of people I rather see gone. Yoshi P said if the majority of the community wants it, they might look into it but they wanted to stick to the lore. It's honestly not even worth crying about it or throwing a tantrum over.
Lore states a Viera can leave if the Wood/Viera race is in danger - which it currently is. This will only change is if the Empire fully stops what they're doing, which may be possible with current events. There are previous posts of mine explaining this. The excuse of lore doesn't stand; however, the excuse of resources and lack of time does. I haven't seen anyone talk about threatening to unsub or riot lately, at least not in an actual serious matter. But anyway, just thought I'd explain the lore part. This is actually from the FF14 lore of Viera.
'You see, the Viera follow a strict code called the ‘Green Word’ that binds them to their land and prohibits all contact with the outside world unless absolutely necessary.”
and
Jenomis cen Lexentale: “ And while the tribes are wholly independent, they have agreed to uphold a single standard: shun all contact with the outside world unless it is to protect the jungle. ”
There's more; that's just some of the lines that basically just have it in black and white rather than the shade of greys, they can't be misinterpreted.
Obviously the absolutely 'necessary' is the threat of their species or the wood/Golmore Jungle.
oh, and have some cute, yet bittersweet lore folks
'‘The value of coexistence will not be found ‘neath a loincloth. Long has our kind endured understanding that the distance 'twixt two bodies does not dictate the distance 'twixt two souls.’”
It seems that males and females do indeed pair off, and perhaps a male does have 'one female' who is his soul mate. It's rather sad that they're forced to be apart. The wording 'endured' certainly springs out as that's not exactly one that says it's been peaches and cream, it's painful and harsh.
It also seems that the males may have this beaten into them - since they did coexist with their siblings and family until they were taken away. A hard lesson to learn. I can only imagine that the war that resulted in them losing their original homeland was something so 'out there' that had them ending up living like this to survive.
Writing a detailed explanation of why the lack of male Viera and female Hrothgar is due to currently-insurmountable logistical issues and not due to a lack of "caring" or wanting to do it.
I'm pretty sure he cares about all of it since the entirety of the game is basically his legacy. It's pretty insulting to imply that he doesn't give a toss about one thing or the other to suit your narrative on what you prefer. So, unless you're Yoshida - you don't have a right to say what he does or does not care about unless you're directly quoting something he has said that confirms it.
And this isn't just about people not supporting mViera but those who are as well, damn am I sick of people trying to weaponise Yoshida and his 'wants' and imply that the bloody developer doesn't care. Do you know how insulting it is to say that to about a developer? Or any creator mind you. Out of all of the Devs I've seen in MMOs Yoshida has shown he's perhaps the most nonbiased of them all and tries to appease everyone. This is why we're in this situation in the first place in regards to Viera and Hrothgar, they only had resources for one whole race at that time, so they made one male and one female of two different races to try and appease both. To some this is perfectly okay, to others this is disastrous - it's a matter of opinion.
---
Anywho, everything that has been announced was basically greenlighted and resources allocated in advance. Adding mViera wouldn't have changed this because the resources have already have been allocated to the already upcoming and current projects. They don't ditch one in favour of the other. I don't understand how people don't understand this. The only way the missing genders would arrive is in the future they allow resources to the project - since Yoshida can't confirm then it means for the upcoming year or so they are rather full and have no 'spare' resources, unless they somehow streamline their productivity more so and make it easier to overcome some issues. The issues being able to maintain the races after release.
Face =/= bodyshape
Therefore
Kpop singer face =/= feminine bodyshape
As long as there's 1 "young" or "Boyish" face then that part is settled.
The bodyshape/model is a different ballpark.
Or is every average joe suddenly a kpop singer all of a sudden? Cause I want those millions of dollars if so.
Ohhhh 'this' topic again. Imma bring some popcorn
I'm waiting for it feel free to have some,

Just wanted to come and bump this thread after watching it for god knows how long now.
I just would like more race options. Same goes with female Hrothgar.
This is weird to me. I honestly thought that midlander with max 'define' actually looked pretty damn good. Midlanders and Miqote aren't scrawny, they're pretty well built. And I'm sure the average man does not have biceps that large or defined, or the sixpack. Unless we're talking about their faces where you can make 'feminine' looking males; but that body - that body is all 'male' there is nothing feminine about it.
I'm also from Europe. I guess if you're comparing them to native Scandinavians or those who literally body build then that's going to be an unfair comparison. I mention Scandinavians because their average height seems to be above 6ft and a lot of the men are built very robust like - not surprising, Odin has blessed them.
The default midlander face isn't Japanese/K-pop - WoL actually looks like an average western dude. I've seen plenty of like him. He actually falls into the trope of western male protags; you know what I mean. White, brunette and light eyes. Nothing wrong with that.
Hrothgar and Roe aren't don't even have a physique that is obtainable. Maybe less so with the Hrothgar actually, it would depend on a lot of things. Right now they're fantasy bodies.
If we're going back to the whole physique of how Viera should look, then blah blah blah - opinion wise, I'd be happy with them being as toned as max defined midlander/highlander with the minimum height of a MidlanderM (at max) and the maxheight of a male (midrange) Elezen.
Its both entertaining and annoying how this thread constantly comes SO close to fading into Obscurity, but then comes back because people start arguing again.
Like its barley even about Male Viera anymore
The idea I'm gathering is that if a male is any less muscular than a highlander then they're feminine which is wholly a false statement that has been elaborated few comments above.
As far as emotes I will concede that they may fall into some anime pitfalls on expression(heck their look is pretty much a neko with the eye lines from big cats thrown in).
But their body is far from feminine.
Seriously, I look away for 24 hours and this thread goes downhill again?
Please, everyone, do not express condescending and self-defeating negativity towards developers. If you believe they do not care about their players, then being here should be a waste of time for you. Think about it. Why would you bother expressing your feelings to someone who supposedly doesn't care to listen to you anymore?
Yoshi P cares and that is precisely why we feel open to communicating and expressing ourselves in the forums. The majority of mViera and fHrothgar supporters understand this, as well as we know the cause of this predicament. In a nutshell: They only had enough resources allocated to create one full race, and they decided to split it between two races, one half of each race, to appease two camps: Viera fans and those who wanted a more beastly race. Whether it was a good decision or not, that's completely subjective (ie. your own opinion). But if there ever is a fact, it is this: Yoshi cares about us. He cares about this game very much. All aspects of it. And he deserves our gratitude and respect for the hard work he does for us.
I know we all had our moments where our negative emotions got the best of us, but lets calm down. We can ask the developers for the addition of mViera and fHrothgar in a constructive and positive manner. This also applies to feedback for other areas of the game too.
Now go be your best and fabulous selves.

Bloody hell, you people are still going? I take a break for a few months and come back to over 1000 pages of this. I'm not against male Viera, but I would have expected people to give up on that by now.
If we go by that logic Male Roedagyns are nothing but over the top flamboyant characters, big hunks of wall meat that have some of the silliest emotes in the game what type of person would find their blow kiss / dote emote appealing, their happy is way over the top, psych/Furious makes them look like they are passing kidney stones. The way SE presents Roe males (lalafels too) has been less than stellar (Leviabeetus anyone) that i was surprised Goesetsu was giving as much humility as he did get especially compared to the other reoccurring Roe ("It's like all my namesdays come at once").
Yet i do not think every Roe is like that, actually far from it. If someone wants their character to be as feminine as possible they will do so, same with masculine, people will work with what they like to make something they want and trying to shame people for having preferred taste (male Miqo'tes/Midlanders) as being less masculine is horrible for all anyone knows despite them being that race they could never touch the accursed more 'feminine' emotes, wear more masculine attire and present themselves as the most macho guy out there yet they would be classed as feminine to you because they prefer smaller races.
This whole Masculine/feminine thing is so subjective it is best to just drop it as it just creates pages of pointlessness that derails this thread which it doesn't need help on.
More on topic note if they haven't decided by now if they will do male Viera/female Hrothgar then they ain't coming in 6.0 which will probably be never in this game's lifespan due to the excessive amount of gear that would have to be adjusted for them and i doubt they would ever get the resources boost needed at this point. Which is just disheartening, understandable but still disheartening.
What is it with Roegadyn players, usually male Roes, and being terribly judgmental of other races? Name a more iconic duo.
About m!Viera, I'm 95% sure they'll never be added. It'd be great but they didn't even completely finish the Viera we have now, what makes you think they're capable of doing the work for a whole new gender? Small indie company, y'know.
Just saying, redirecting the hate doesn't make it go away - if anything, it makes the wheel spin. Simply ignore them and keep going.
Imagine thinking that anyone without bara-tier muscles is feminine... Someone has read too much of a certain kind of manga or veen too much at gyms and too little time in the real world.
Don't think any of the male races look feminine,
Sure you can put make up on them and give them long braid hairstyle,
But its still just some guy and its pretty hard to hide without mass amount of photo shop, mods or off model art.
I would expect male Viera to be very bishonen like Au ra and Miqote since yoshi mentioned they would be elegant.
Dudes kicked into the woods at a young age, that have had to fight to survive alone after being briefly taught by another mviera and then thrust to go solo, many die in said process and only the ones who survived all the hardships of things trying to kill them and just basic survival, keep the forest safe from the shadows.
Look, im bi and i love feminent males, but being serious, i find just useing the basic lore from them keeps them from being as feminent as many of you keep pressing for. Elegant and graceful? Sure, i can get that. Sorta like vega from street fighter, but shorter than the females and more feminent than the females?
Why are so many trying to push for that for them? They should have the same height scale as the females, since at a young age its hard to tell them apart, give them a body type similar to the au ra, again a sort of graceful elegant look, kinda like vega, give them stern looking faces, because i cant imagine a protector of the forest who went through the above to just look super girly for the hell of it.
It's because people have subconsciously connected animals to certain traits in humans overtime and rabbits have been mostly seen, through both east and west cultures, as feminine/ female sex connected.( Even GF isn't free from this. They later went back to the idea of bunny Pokemon and made this thing lol, still don't know which way the new Fire Bunny starter will go though). Kinda like how you can look at a buff dude and say "Damn, that guy is built like a gorilla! He's HUGE" and there's no offence taken ... because we think of gorillas as being big and strong and aggressive. Say that about a woman and .. no, just don't.
It's why I had so many fights with people who thought it was homophobic for them not to make Male Viera even though we have never seen one in all the history of FF, they assume that they would be feminine and sexy like the women ... that they would be twinks. Rabbits are so linked to being sexy and small and cute to people that many people seemed shocked that they can't make a smol Viera or have a cute lil-itty-bitty bunny tail (traits the Viera don't have ... they're a race of tall af amazon women). Tis also why people wanted the males to look like children and made such a big movement for it that Yoshi had to shut it down, people tie these traits into what they want..
Logically, fallowing the females, they should just look like better proportioned elezen with rabbit ears and black coded face features. But the heart wants what it wants I guess.
Imagine not being able to understand a text of less than three lines. Amazing doesnt it.
No one is trying to shame others for what they play. It's simply more than obvious that the vast majority of male Miqotes you'll see in the game (users) don't have any masculinity at all.
But well, if to you /joy's emote seems like an ode to manhood, that's your opinion. Mine is certainly far from that.
I have so many things to say about the people who play miqote girls that I end up saving them because we all know what it's all about.
Actually, come to think of it, Vega is a pretty good example honestly. I'm surprised I never thought of that. Haha. But yeah, In honesty I'm in agreement with this statement, as well as what Reivaxe said in regards to how people view certain humanoid that has animal links. It's why I'm very much against the idea of them becoming 'cute little animu men' just for the sake of it when their women are Amazonians. In a society where the women actually have it a lot easier and are yet fierce huntresses, the men should be a pure example of survival and endurance. I really do not want another repeat of what happened to Au'ra.
