Guys let's not forget there were literal attempts on her life, as a child no less. Besides, I don't think Koana meant to treat her like family her because he thought she was all alone, it seemed clear to me he did so because he didn't want her to grow alone like he did.
On the other hand, it is weird that there was an attempted murder and the king just goes "Don't worry, I'll adopt her". It's not necessarily a bad story beat, but again, there's such a crucial lack of flashbacks or any in-depth explanation of the past, which is a shame because we literally have the Echo to explore such things. And by weird I do mean that if he truly did adopt her just for that, then there'd be 34 more Promises fighting for the throne.
EDIT: Actually thinking about it it's even weirder to consider he adopted her because he knew there'd be more attempts on her life because of an unresolved conflict and just ... proceeded to keep ignoring that conflict. I swear with every question comes three more.

08-09-2024, 01:19 AMZXNPart of me was hoping during the MSQ we'd get a similar thing like we did with Wuk, where we run into the birth parent/parents of Koana, or at least part of the nomadic clan he came from, maybe in Shaaloani for example, and get a small scene or two to kind of build that backstory part of his up a bit. It would've been one hell of a thing to find out where unlike Wuk's father, who gave her up to Gulool Ja Ja for her safety, Koana's parents left him legitimately because they didn't want him anymore and they could care less what became of him.Quote:

Those are the exact words he said. Yeah, he didn't want her to grow up alone, but he did get attached based on the false idea that she had been abandoned.

If anything that's maybe yet another angle the story failed to grasp then. I guess it could still happen (but let's be real, I'd be surprised if it did) but him learning that her father is still alive and well and loves her could've possibly sparked some drama between the two, especially with the "reveal" that Koana is actually more emotional than he seems. That plus a heartfelt reconciliation would've made them sharing the throne a lot more earned.Quote:

Sure Wuk's option of doing Ihih'hana worked, but Koana's way using an alchemic concoction also worked. The story through the entire contest as you go through it however ever so subtly tries to constantly push onto you, using some NPC dialogues and certain body language /facial expressions when directed specifically at what Koana says or does, the mindset of "Yeah Koana's ways are "correct", but it's not THE correct way we're looking for, unlike Wuk's way, which IS the correct way."Quote:

Even though he brought Dirigibles and a Train to help certain parts of the nation, it's like the story tries to subtly shame him sometimes for using outside methods to try and help his nation.
And Koana's reward for his journey and growth during the contest? To essentially give up at the finish line and proudly declare that Wuk is the only good option as leader of their nation. Sure, Koana becomes Dawnservant alongside Wuk in the end, but the story tried it's absolute best to subtly "convince" the player and everyone else that Koana was never going to be as worthy as Wuk Lamat for the title. -
