Why don't you just go to the Square Enix Account Manager > Select Service > Final Fantasy XIV > Options List > and check under Permanent Options to see if you have an alpha account.
It happens an hour before emails are sent.

I honestly think, that when you get an E-mail, you have to go through a Separate Process to get into the forums ( like click link to Activate Alpha Forum for this account).
