Frankly, I find this hard to believe, it's just been too long. Surely someone somewhere has tried just about everything possible by now.

Issue I am having is finding a group at least on my server. Even at level 33 it feels like no one wants you or no one cares to invite anyone. It's the complete opposite of the social MMO experience that was Anemos.
I can sit there and shout in chat for an hour then IF and big IF I get a group I have to log for RL. I mean c'mon man!
on a side and semi unrelated note does this game even have a test server? you know where players can go and help test new content?
Its not that we havent figured it out. Its that we simply gave up on the content entirely.
So many of us have given it up, and so many more have just done what little we know out of just getting this done while it's still populated, because Pagos is such garbage. If it wasn't for how many main jobs I play I'd probably just wrap up my grind of seals, tomes, scrips, etc., finish making my sets of food, and then walk away from this game until the patch goes live.
I'm pretty sure he was talking about exp,not light, but I could be remembering wrong. He did, however, offer a slightly (or seemingly) arrogant response that we should just learn to play as our predecessors did, as though that justifies the poor designs in Pagos, or Eureka in general.
I'm just going to do it cause I want the - I'm cold- emote. Even with it's rare as hell droprate. Which I hate cause I knew this team only have 2 choices for emotes, stupid grind or store. and right now.. I'm perfering the store. But ofcourse they do that cause they know everyone HATES pagos. And I have to remember the store team is a completely different team then the devs so nevermind. I'm just ranting cause I want that emote.
I kinda doubt that it's just former FFXI devs working on Eureka.
But it definitely feels like none of them play or understand this game. I think Yoshi said that was one of the problems with 1.0, that none of the devs played MMOs, so he made them play some. I think he might need to do that again.
everyone keeps saying "yoshi said no one knows how best to get light."
that's a misquote. It's Elevel that YoshiP was talking about. What we know about light is what is known.
And it is awful. Because "our predecessors did it."
So much this. I spent maybe 30 minutes in Pagos, did the Bunny Fate...got nothing. Literally nothing.
Pagos does one if the worst sins a game can do: it does not respect my time.
The Relic grind of ARR? I did it halfway through HW. I hit 66 before Baelsars Wall. It let me make use of my time and I got it done, and was given weapon, EXP, etc.
The HW relic? I got Almace, Majestas, and am all prepared for Rhongomiad. But I have not gotten any weapons beyond Galatyn Anemos and Caladbolg.
Because Pagos disrespects my time.
In game design, there is an art to making a challenging grind. You need to engage your playerbase, even when the grind gets tedious, with the promise of progress if they keep pushing.
Pagos fails in this regard: too much RNG makes progress too unreliable, and all of your light progress depends entirely on the biggest RNG factor of all: whether or not you get into an active instance.
Because every light source requires other people in the instance involved and doing things, your rate of light gain can fluctuate massively. I've had three hour lockouts where nothing happened, and this morning I built a party and got three crystals in 80 minutes. But that only happened because I got into a new instance and was able to grab the good dragon camp. Usually it's taken.
Again, way too much RNG, too little control over your progress, and people are tapping out and saying "I quit." And they're right to do so--nobody should play content that isn't fun.
I'm only still doing it because I am sadly devoted to my DRG; been a dedicated fan going all the way back to FFIV (FF2) on the SNES.
So the only 2 changes to Pagos in the 4.4 patch notes is some sought of change to the heatwave weather and... making the exit more obvious?
I don't even. I can't process it anymore. I don't even get how according to the live letter digest that some got their relic very quickly and that's why they're doing nothing. Be nice to know how these few got their relic so quickly.
So I had the first one done the first day after the first reset.
The first week was spent - joining level appropriate groups in the PF - and working through level appropriate mobs. This usually got 2 levels per day.
NMs would pop because the instance had a spread of players at different levels working on monster grinds to level, spread over the map.
If a 30+ NM popped before the group had the teleports opened it was ignored.
As there was a regular stream of NMs - everyone had an abundance of Pagos crystals when they were needed at that point in the quest chain (this applied to me for weapon number 2 as well)
As people hit 35 the dragons were worked out as a constant (albeit small) source of light. Louhi was also constantly spawned and killed.
The problem with it all now - and this is affecting me as well - is that as soon as the train kicked back into motion the whole eco system was lost. The people who waited didn't level how I think SE envisioned it - the way the early adopters did - and it threw the whole system out of whack.
Crystals and Light came - almost - completely organically in those first 2 weeks, yes, there was some dragon farming but it (imo) never too excessive. Maybe I just have a higher tolerance to such things?
Personally I won't afk for hours waiting to spawn NMs for the crystals as it is the worst kind of experience for me personally I could imagine in an MMO. The whole attitude changed - the efficiency of those players in the first couple of weeks was replaced with whining and AFKing.
If the whole thing is going to split the player base this much then in future it should be avoided - but I think it should be noted that there was a system that (imo) worked in the intiial stages but wasn't sustainable - that in itself was bad design.
considering I just killed 60 dragons and got the equivalent of ONE frosted crystal, this is getting more than a little ridiculous.
I am so close to freedom from this uninspired box of rock and ice, so close to no longer having to spam my single target rotations with so little promise of gains that I have to question if I'm at a striking dummy that hits back, and so close to never again having to shout for an invite to a group farming light (and then hoping with fingers crossed that the group holds together). Oh, and so close to never again having to see people shouting for Cassie prep as soon it turns Blizzards (because, as we all know, prep happens DURING a thing instead of before).
Just 1.2 bar, or so, of light to go and my fourth relic will be done until Pyros comes out, and then we'll see how good or bad (or both) that place is.
I'll do that in the early afternoon, and then get back to work on topping off seals and scrips before my FC's weekly Map Night. At least during that weekly event RNG can be understood, but good gods is it still a pain in the ass even then. That'll leave Saturday, then, to make my food, maybe hang out with the friend who just came back to the game, and yeah... There are such better ways of spending my time before the patch.
Like finally getting around to playing "Rise of the Tomb Raider." Hey look! Even the emptier areas surrounded by snow and ice look like more thought was put into their design. <_<;
Has anything changed since the patch or is it still a dreadfully painful grind? I keep seeing how the devs are touting how cool and Anemos like Pyros will be but if I am looking at a monster of a grind...
No changes as far as I am aware. I haven't been in there in several weeks.
"The exit is more visible" is about all I remember reading.
The only difference is that it's less populated, so it's slightly worse now.
My personal experience with recent Pagos, so hardly a general rule, is that I feel you have less trigger happy people when it comes to pulling NM.
I had the time to walk up half the map before anyone attacked targets like Holy Cow or Louhi. So maybe, there are less people, but I felt definitely less toxicity.
Hopefully I finished my weapon westerday so I won't have to go back in but but yeah its slower to fullfill the instance and start the train. But nothing really change, really depend on the people here, some wll pull ASAP some other wait a bit. Otherwise nothing really change at all.
It's worse, because now nobody is doing it. I've stuck my head in during Eastern prime time a few times since the patch and stuck around to see how the instance grew. It didn't.
I'm probably going to have to write off continuing, since I still need 13 frosted crystals for just my first weapon in Pagos.
Here's to hoping those nerfs come sooner rather than later, then.
I went back to Anemos because I wanted to work on my DRK weapon more.
17 people.
left and queued again.
Same instance.
As someone who likes doing relics for glamour off and on, like I'm planning to do with my Anima weapon to get Aettir, I now look to 5.0 and ask myself -how? How can anyone do Anemos alone? That's not even mentioning Pagos, Pyros, and whatever the last one is. Especially since you need to do FATEs for items and crystals, or to find items.
How can anyone do this relic now? 17 people in one instance that can fit 144, and it takes anemos crystals to upgrade your items at the end - which are either FATE only or you pray to every god in every pantheon you get one while chaining, if that's even possible.
I don't even think nerfs will do anything. The way the relic works now pretty much screws everyone who wants to work on it once the content is dead. Sigh.
went in about 10pm last night, 11 people...left. Went back in, still 11 people (same instance). Left, gave it 5 minutes while I unloaded some lockboxes, back in, same instance, 14 people. Went and done Alliance Roulette instead lol I'm only on my 2nd weapon and have 5 of my last 16 light crystals needed. PPlease just let me finish my 2nd weapon before Pyros xD
I went in and was the only one in Anemos. 20 minutes later after doing some challenge logs there were a whopping 5 people on.

I think they should just let us buy the crystals and stuff from Anemos for tomestones now and when they release Pyros they should add the stuff from Pagos for tomestones too.
Eureka was a huge mistake, but too much work already went into it, so they have to finish it. But please give us a backdoor to finish the relic outside of this messed up - and dead - content.
Its actually alot easier and friendlier to get the original relic weapon or the anima weapon compared to the Eureka relic.
With Eureka's current population it is impossible.
They said they plan on releasing pyros sooner than Pagos timeline but at the rate they are going when it gets to the last area I would be surprised if there is enough people is in the area to get anything done.
If they dont do Pagos nerfs once pyros is released then it will become a complete fail.
I'll go with "remove rng from light gain". Then even if everything gave you minimal light (don't do this) you know how many enemies you need to grind and every enemy is a guaranteed contribution. You can go five minutes into Pagos and still make it worth your while because you made tangible progress, which is what turned a lot of people off from the content to begin with.
Here's even the worse matter, the weapon after this LOOOOOOOOOOONG grind is only 370, Suzu weapon is 385 and the savage weapons are 405, the tome weapon is 390.
W. T. F.
I have only 4 total crystals to do my 10 crystal turn in and then I GOTTA get next 16. This has taken me 2 weeks to do this with my playing schedule of 3 hours a day. There aren't really any mobs you can solo that can give good light NOR give you cold boxes. unless you are in a group of 4. Nerf this content before we *casuals* are stuck in pagos while everyone moves on to pyros who grinded their relic hardcore T_T
