The hardcore crowd has been using these things long before the sudden surge of WoW players. It also wasn't the "hardcores" who destroyed WoW. The development team did that. You'd be hard pressed to find a sizeable group of hardcore players that are actually happy with the game right now. I'm not defending the use of mods (and neither does SE, officially), but WoW players didn't start anything here. Get out with that nonsense. I don't have a strong opinion on UI mods because, and this is an important point so please pay attention, the way other people see the game does not impact me and its frankly none of my business.
That said I think the need to spend time and effort on a third party unsanctioned modification to make one game look like an old game you used to play out either a fear of unfamiliar or an inability to move on or whatever might be something worth discussing with your therapist. Maybe enjoy the game for what it is rather than what we hoped wow could have been. but again none of this effects me.
Mods will never be sanctioned for several reasons, but there is no way to stop personal use. UNLESS the mods are used to harass or bully people.
