In my defense, it is not terribly difficult to identify an art direction. In fact, that's kind of the entire point of an art direction - something anyone can look at and say the world feels like "this". I'm not claiming I have some great insight that no-one else has; rather I was trying to help illustrate a point more clearly so that both sides of the argument could find some common ground. These weapons are much better, and I think that after 2.0, the designs of the Ifrit and Garuda weapons will look a lot more... "realistic" in their own right as well.
How much skill and patience is required to make Bricks? Consistency in Art Direction is the issue I have. With the Moogle Weapons (although I still think they are silly) at least each weapon has a plushy on them. The Ifrit weapons all have a little piece of Ifrit in them. There is consistency in the designs.Quote:
The invention of new crafting methods has made such arms and armor possible, but the process is still said to test the skill and patience of even the most seasoned smiths.
With these new weapons, all of the others appear very intricate in design and have mechanical moving parts. They definitely imply a sense of skill & patience in their construction. Again I ask, How much skill and patience is required to make Bricks?
Maybe the Bricks open and a Boxing Glove pops out?

Art direction can certainly be identified, I agree. Art direction can not, however, be predicted unless you work for that specific team. The world is ending, a bunch of things are happening that can't be explained according to game lore. How can anyone say which way the directions needs to be steered to under these circumstances?.
I agree with your points and do not agree with other players trying to make us "see" the art director of the game has lost it and doesn't know what he's doing... seriously?
Exactly...
"These new weapons don't fit into a world that I have yet to see and therefore know nothing about"
Seriously.. just enjoy the new weapons....
Garuda, AF, grand company ones... Can't we just appreciate that 1.22 will keep us super busy
THIS!! Hit the fuckin nail right on the fuckin head. I was going to post something to this effect, but I'll just copypasta this instead. In all seriousness, has it ever occurred to anyone that FFXIV 2.0 might, idk, have new art direction :O?! Holy shit batman, you mean to tell me 2.0 isn't just a copypasta of XIV on a new engine?! Why, why...that would make it like..a new game! Thats right Robin, 2.0 is a new game!
Long story short, its safe to assume that the design of these weapons will fit in with the design and lore of the new Eorzea. Remember folks: a realm reborn. That doesn't mean a realm copy/pasted. Take a moment and think what "reborn" implies. Mmmmm savor the goodness. Understand now yes?
Good. Now quit yo gripin about shit you haven't seen yet!
