I second this.
The whole system should and need a overhaul. Some of us tried to get a house since the whole housing thing launched and still with no success.
This is stupid past stupid.

Sadly many of us have been saying this from the first day housing was implemented, it falls on deaf ears Im afraid. :(
It has actually has become far worse as time has gone on, not better, the insane demolition timer is a prime example of their flawed thought process. Utter insanity on SE's part. To take away a purchased, virtual, already earned item even if currently SUBSCRIED lol I mean, why not delete all characters and all gil if you dont log in every month..even IF you pay to subscribe...errr. Not sure if it is insanity or a genetic fault.
I have fought for housing so much in the past to no avail.
I do understand peoples frustrations, I agree with what many ask for, sadly it has all been mentioned before. (over and over and over)
You would think they would want to be proud of their work..not ashamed of this particular failure.
I have had the same ~60 million gil waiting on my character since June 2017. That gil has sat there waiting now for more than three years for the large plot in Shirogane my friends and I saved up to buy and, despite waiting up religiously during every patch night introducing new wards, have never managed to get.
Three years of looking at that gil, sitting there, doing nothing.
The way it is now, attaining a house is stressful and volatile, it's not fun, it relies heavily on many factors outside of people's control (crashes/lag in a time where everyone's trying to log in right after a patch), and it ends up with a lot of very bitter players who are cut out of a significant piece of content entirely based on what happens in a 15 min or so window every 2 years.
Because it's so competitive, it entices all the bots, scammers, scalpers and gil sellers which adds an entire extra level of competition that doesn't even intend to use the content only to swindle other players.
When something is this coveted, put more time into it- this isn't some piece of content that you're going to put a bunch of effort into only for nobody to use it, if it were this issue wouldn't come up so much. And when the defining part of one of the game's most important pieces of content is never being able to participate in it at all for so many players, you're straight up failing to deliver properly SE, it's inexcusable.
You wouldn't lock out everyone for two years that doesn't clear a raid day one, you wouldn't say that only the top 1000 pvpers ever get to pvp and the only chance you'll ever have to pvp is if one of them quits and a spot opens up, you wouldn't make it so once 1000 players complete the MSQ nobody else will ever get to do it. So why is housing like that?
I just wasted 4 hours camping to get a house for my FC only to have someone run over and relocate to the spot. Just let me buy this F***ing plot SE, I will give you 4million gil for this small plot, 5 million even just stop making me waste my time
Three Easy Step for Failure#3: "The mindset that the solution to ever problem could be patched in a future update". How long has it been?
What We Have Learned#2: "Fun comes first". Clicking a placard over and over with high magnitude of losing is not fun.
Sometimes it's nice to have a stubborn dev, prevents people from disrupting the image too much - not chasing some weird monster of a vision.
However.. housing, and blue mage (imo not suggesting you've similar feelings lol), is the situation where it's just plain -_-;.
I remember Yoshida mentioning how he didn't want more dev feedback and that some of the team was thinking of making changes but he was like 'stay course' and at that point I had almost just stopped playing lol. Which is a weird feeling since blue mage makes up like 0.5% of the game, and I've loads of other jobs I think are quite interesting (Paladin and Summoner probably being my more favorite)- yet just trying to be honest in my 'feeling'. Both feel like concessions in quality design, housing I understood in the beginning where the game was hardly popular and just coming out of crunch hell but blue mage..
There are so many things off with the core construction in both (yes imo, but I will die on this hill lol) that it sometimes paints my entire vision of the game negatively, at which point I'll naturally take a break.. because I've some adult behaviors in the child like casing of loathe I've for those two systems (lol, /toss salt).. but I truly think both concepts have dreadfully flawed construction (doesn't mean all the materials used are bad, like the objects in housing are wonderfully cute and interesting, but the design / directives are not good). To the point I feel I'm uselessly arm chair dev confident enough on that to say I'd make a presentation, in person, slides and all on why the delivery and design are off their marks not just in a general sense but also for the best of what FFXIV provides and it's most general audience (and you may counter point it was for a niche audience but don't be pikachu shock faced then when someone is not happy about it lol). I hate making public presentations but I dislike their logic and execution more, heck lets make it stressful and turn it into a debate so we can shout of each other @_@.
In my tainted defense, I spend the vast amount of my time in creative feedback and appreciation (my 'salt' is pretty much dedicated exclusively to those two topics where I think something buckled and some sort of key logic went missing), and I've a fairly decent record of either predicting or successfully suggesting concepts into the game and those that don't appear here often have appeared else where, like WoW's approach to expansions or GW2's mount system, or here with things like gpose, smn, and some materia changes (list is quite a bit larger, but of course some are easily circumstance and not any influence, but too many random examples said long before they were added such that I'm either a very good guesser or they do take some feedback). That most are usually quite to far more well liked- so I don't feel absolutely insane or out of place if I was ever forced into a debate format of what the game would get the most value out of (and my most ashamed ideas were long ago when I was less careful of how it would impact everyone, at this point every suggestion I think of others and well of course myself lol- which is why I often purposefully make room for styles I don't really enjoy, like making sure instanced housing doesn't trample neighborhoods, or any new design to blue still has some fun content with PF even if it's not the main focus anymore), worth screaming though that it's far easier to critique than to put in the long hours of work so I'm not drawing parallels lol, a few mistakes by the devs doesn't make them equal to some rando, they're still pretty good, just saying that I've seen numerous ideas come to fruition (suggested before implementation) here and in other games and am almost always pleased with the result the community views of them so I don't think I'm out of touch with the world (at least entirely)).
Naturally when someone dislike something they're more eager for entire destruction - occasionally I try to be hyper transparent (like saying salt, or dislike) so it's clear a negative experience can be painting Dalamud Reds, but I admit both can also just be built upon. Say like making apartments just as good as houses with new floors, balconies, or whatever other options, or Blue Mage representing it's design goals or try something a bit more expensive but broad in adding a 'normal' side to their limited ('true blue' is not it, when they provide the worst Angel Whisper in the history of the FF series- PF exclusive job is clearly the goal). Still... it is entirely possible nothing will be done and Yoshida will go out and talk about how amazing the housing system is or whatever, how great 5% of the population leveled blue even if only 1% actually did anything interesting / enjoyed it, or whatever.
The man has done some incredible stuff, he is an insanely skilled (it appears at least) organizer of people's time and teams, and his stubborn nature I'm sure has produced some very interesting content for this game we'd not get otherwise, but occasionally it makes me want to throw my hands up in the air. Not make, I think I have lol. Each time housing or blue gets a patch "well, that's questionable".
"Don't want blue to be forced to use specific spells, that's why we made spells locked behind party exclusive content and made many of them mandatory to do your job properly." "we wanted true blue, that's why we gave you the worst angel whisper in the history of the FF series, and nerfed a few other skills because they were too op for party content" "the housing system is fine, we like the neighborhood system, even though it'll never support enough players until you add so many houses that it kills the neighborhood concept because you made too much space between players, that many FCs struggle to have relevance when they've no house, many players have abused the system, the system itself is hamstrung by these limitations and cannot add new interesting features because it can't get everyone involved and this hamstrung shackled nature includes creativity of the dev team such we can't have many interesting areas, meanwhile everyone had to deal with obnoxious restrictions and feeling imprisoned to their subs else they loose their investments or praying to a digital wood board for hours on end doing nothing else interesting in the game at the time, and if we really cared about neighborhoods would have never let players join the system as players frequently kill the vibe as they're not home enough" etc etc etc.

Game is still great. . just those two shake around like a bags of rocks inside a dryer on high, appear like swiss cheese when it comes to their existence where each statement can be immediately countered by some design consideration in the game (like if you want amazing neighborhoods then adding players to the system was an awful choice, our areas would be so active if it was just FCs, so they stabbed the system in the heart massively already, and yet they'll have to keep stabbing it's entire existence if they want to make sure more players get to be involved, to make the system bigger you have to make it's purpose worse... I just.. "can't even".. lol). Also of course it's fine to like the 'swiss cheese', which is why I sometimes go to the people who think it's good and have them explain why- as you see sometimes "I like it broke the trinity" and so you can call out that no it didn't and it reinforced it "it's okay you're enjoying but the 'feeling' is interfering with the logic that the job exists upon, it didn't break the trinity and actually reinforced it and even if it did break the trinity what "x y z" person are asking for doesn't have to mess with what you liked about it". Like sometimes I had loads of fun in vanilla Diablo 3 (before the remake), a number of great experiences in 1.0 FFXIV, but a good time doesn't mean it was made on the best foundations. Heck just taking that literally many great houses, built on poor foundations, ultimately not a great thing but it can work, sort of, lol.
Probably my first and last post on the housing issue for now- maybe if I see some incredibly thread or something, else.. just want to at least add a drop into the bucket of "SE, this is not great- in considerations of what it could/should have been it's actually leanings towards the opposite of not great- I sincerely wish you did something serious about this".
