I wouldn't call a suggestion like this absurd. I know a lot of people who would really appreciate something like this in MMORPGs, and to suggest a feature and looking for interest for that to show the developers if people would care for it or not is a pretty natural reaction in case you would ask for something like this. I don't know if this is troll or not, but it is definitely an idea I would get behind if there was an easy way to put it in, which it as of my understanding now doesn't.

Cyberpunk 2077 is going to allow you to choose your prounouns.

But my thing is? There are hundreds if not thousands of Genders now. So where does it stop? Like if they put this in? Then he'll have to have people select one of hundreds of genders at character select. Its kind of insane.

Cyberpunk is a bit different though I feel. Since the genre implies that humanity is pushing back the limits of what is possible so if you identify as a toaster (silly example I know), you can legitimately install a toaster in yourself.

No, they are not. This is a common misconception. Most people realize how they can't simply put in every genderidentity, which was why the original suggestion (seems) to imply that they ask to be able to just set their own customed pronouns rather than having to list all the ones, or just for a neutral option. I have never seriously seen anyone asking for all gender identities to be available in a choice menu with dialogue specifically written for it, this is simply a fear a lot of people have for what "will happen" if we even travel slightly from status quo, an understandable fear but still not really fully justified in reality.

There's a simple, practical middle ground - the well-established "singular they".

I'm not involved in whatever community is creating these "hundreds if not thousands of genders" so I have no idea what direction that conversation is drifting in, but for seeing it in mainstream usage (news articles or such) then it's common and straightforward to use "they". We already use it, perhaps without even noticing, to refer to someone 'nonspecific', or on the Internet when we don't know the gender of the person we're referring to.

The longer and more common it is that "they" is in use, I would expect that more people might choose to use that, instead of trying to pick their own individual pronouns because right now there's no established standard for them.

I just assume everyone is a dude and call them dude or bro until corrected and then I use their preferred Pronouns.

This is the list that I was speaking of. https://genderfluidsupport.tumblr.com/gender. Hey I don't have an issue with whatever anyone wants to call themselves. They aren't hurting anyone. I just think the amount of work that it would take wouldn't be worth it. Hell think about it like this? Minority groups that are larger still don't have any representation in FFXIV. I.E PoC, Natives or w/e. So FFXIV has never really been that inclusive.

In a thousand years, when archeologists are digging up bones of today's civilization, what gender do you think they're going to classify the skeletons as? If you answer anything other than "male" or "female", then you're denying reality. If you want to headcanon yourself, in game and/or out, as something else, go for it. Just don't expect, nor demand, that others pander to your imagination.

Gonna be that selfish/un-altruistic guy and say I'd rather they put those hypothetical localization and script costs to fit those "they" pronouns to the more mainstream current costs we have.

Every year and every new expav is a struggle for the ff14 team to implement with their limited time and resources. I'd rather not see those sunk into something to please a very niche minority of players.

That is the suggestion, yes. Either customizable pronouns or, as would be more likely implemented in a game like this, they/them (or the equivalent in other languages, I suppose). This isn't a troll post at all.

I'm a little saddened such a simple suggestion has attracted this many bigots.
