New Player Experience Sucks! - Impending Expansion Problems

Am I missing something here, or am I just stupid? I thought the whole point of a game was to....well, play it?

I'm sorry but this is a Final Fantasy game, which are super famous for being very story-driven. Don't play a series renowned for its story-driven games and then complain that it has a story to be played through.

May as well start going to CoD forums and complain that so much of the game is about shooting.

People play games for different reasons. I for one would not be playing this game if it was not for my friends. I do not care about the story I simply care about taking part in content with my friends. Without story and job skip potions I doubt I would be playing FFXIV and if I was not playing FFXIV I would have no reason to spend extra on retainers or mog statioln items. It is an MMO that just so happens to have a focus on story, no one wants to take that story away from anyone. I play FFXIV for the social experience, maybe the MSQ would be bearable if the MSQ did not feel like a single player experience with lightly sprinkled multiple player experiences spread without. Maybe make it so groups can all story content from start to finish.

"without learning" you dont need to go through the early game to learn how to play. plenty of people who bought the level skip play perfectly fine.

the biggest issue here is people saying that level and story skip shouldnt be a thing because they feel that because they went through all of arr they have some special insight into what makes a good player.

the msq is not the end all be all of what this game has to offer. there are plenty of people who skipped every last cutscene and dialogue box because they wanted to get to levelcap asap. theyre no less players than anyone else.

the vast majority of time spent playing this game isnt in msq. They sell skip potions, msq is clearly unecessary for some people to enjoy the game. Not sure why it angers so many people that other people could skip

Play something else until there are more things to do? No reason why one has to stick to just one game at a time.

FFXIV is a heavily story-driven game, so for people who aren't interested in the story it seems like a strange choice of game, and even stranger that they complain that there is too much story.
It is as if I would start playing EVE Online, and then start complaining that there is too much PvP in that game, just because I do not like PvP.

There are so many games out there that it seems wiser to pick games to play where one likes the overall design, instead of choosing ones whose design does not fit ones taste and then complain about said design.

I have some friends who skipped the msq, but these people didn't complain that the game had a story. They just accepted it was there and skipped the dialogue and cutscenes. I'm okay with players like this because they realise the series is famous for being story-driven, and don't complain about it being so. They found a way around it that works for them.

I'm not okay when people complain that a story even exists even though they can skip it quickly with a few clicks, and whine as if doing so is an incredible amount of effort. If the mere presence of a story offends someone so much, they should play something else.

Shadowbringers will have New Game+ (allow you to re-do old story content at your current level), so they can skip if they want and go back and do it at their leisure.

You've missed my point. Many people in this thread and other threads continue to parrot the "If you don't like story, play something else" rebuttal. That might make more sense if we were talking about one of their single-player games, but we're not. This is an MMO, and MMOs cast a wide net full of various content to appeal to the masses, and to keep people occupied for a long time. The MSQ is just one portion of what makes up this game, there is plenty of other content that people are here for.

So yes, it's absolutely ridiculous to make the claim that if you don't want story, you shouldn't be here.

Also, I don't think anyone is calling for the MSQ to go away. People who enjoy it can still enjoy it. Just looking for options. SPECIFICALLY this this thread was created for the new player experience. There is an absurd amount of forced MSQ that people must do before they can get into current content, and that's going to turn off a lot of people.
