Guess my main character will gather more dust on Malboro, and my alt on a JP server will become my new main.

And you know exactly who we can blame for this...

Actually got put in to a que which I don't mind at all I was 120 in the que, after a few mins it went down to 119 a min later what do I get 1017 error OVER my 119 que position. Other NA/EU servers haven't really seen a problem logging in yet today. Can we fix this server or allow free transfers off please I'd like to play my main character.
That's nonsense. It's 2013. Server farms are scaleable. You lease what you expect to need, then add or remove machines as needed. If that's not how FFXIV works, then either their programmers or IT operations teams are morons. World of Warcraft made that virtualization switch over 7 years ago. Every MMO since has done so. TESO is using far superior world/realm-less design to keep the MMO and benefit from infrastructure of an action RPG.
Yesterday, after receiving loads of error 1017's, I finally got into the queue and I got into the server. Then, for some reason, when I entered East Shroud, I got error 90000 and I got disconnected. Then I got even more 1017's and eventually, I gave up. Square Enix really needs to fix this as soon as possible.
Welp, My internet went out and now im stuck in world server is full! Looks like i wont be getting on again tonight. Whoever took my spot on Behemoth! I hope you have fun!
I find it hilarious that they were able to fix the congestion on their web server but not their play servers. I guess they like seeing more people complaining than playing. :p
Since for the majority of the past 3 days I have been playing the "OFFLINE" version of FFXIV: ARR, all I ask is that there be more features. Another cut scene would be nice or possibly custom options for the start menu(different colors and such or other music.)
They have solved the problem of having the servers full by blocking users from entering when there is too much people on it................... how clever !!!!!
guess we will see some mention of this error being resolved on there twitter site..
https://twitter.com/FFXIV_NEWS_EN
till then I guess its just sit back and watch the JP streams of other people playing :)
I am hopeful that they will get these error resolved before 12 CST...would be nice to get in some playing time, since they launched at the start of western school schedule.
Dammit, finally was able to get on. Played for 15 minutes, get booted, then 1017d. Sick of this.
Well, If we're experiencing this much issue before the official launch I can only see it getting worse tomorrow unless they pull something crazy out of their ass. Sadly I wanted to like this game but if It persists into this long weekend, It will probably be my first and only month of this.
This sux.
The movie 1017: strikes again part 3
This is the worse one compare to fatigue system when ffxiv came out on 2010.
YAY finally made it in after sitting here reading this forum for ever lol time to play for 15min, get kicked an do it all again!!!
Sad but true. I would say I have been to a lot of launches in my mmo career and most of them usually have the congestion issues solved within about a day if not a day and a half. I have never seen such a large company so unprepared. I don't usually get frustrated very easily but this has gone on too long already.
I'd be happy to move to a less populated server, but I don't want to have to start all over every time a server fills up. Please do something... and would more frequent updates really kill you SE?
FFXIV:ADT - Final Fantasy 14 A D**k Tease
How the hell can a queue be full?
Store the persons identifying information and time they entered the queue. Then simply count how many people are ahead and display it on the screen. When a slot opens on the server, take that persons identifying information and log them in.
What kind of ass clown programmed this?? "Queue is full??" at what 100 people 200? Are you storing the queue of every server on a digital wristwatch? Or is the code just such complete s~~~ that it can't handle an extremely simple list of users and update positions every 10.. 20.. 30 seconds?
As a senior programmer i can only assume that SE is standing up and saying "f~~~ you guys! HAHAH!" This crap is so basic it's asinine to witness. If you need me to come in and consult (which seems to be the case) then please feel free to contact me. At least it will give me something to do while you bend me over with this "log in lottery" you have going.
I've been extremely patient and supportive up till this point. But not managing to keep a queue stable? I finally realize what's happening. 1017 * 3 + 51 just means your reaming me with 3102. Which I took with a smile. Now you've launched. You've had how long to make sure the most BASIC aspect to an MMO (logging in) is working?
... Don't even get me started on the lack of an AFK auto log out feature.
Guys, this problem is NOT going to go away. SquareEnix needs to do four things to solve the server congestion issues. Two of which they have made extremely obvious they have no intention of doing, and the other two they seem rather disinclined towards as well.
First, remove the Error 1017 stating that the world is full. If the world is full, place the player in a queue and TELL HIM HOW DEEP IT IS. At this point players can either tab away from the game while they wait or choice to exit and go do something else.
Second, implement an "away from keyboard" auto-disconnect such as is present in EVERY OTHER MMO. If the server does not receive a hardware control input from the client (via keyboard or mouse) for a set period of time (15 minutes seems to be average across most games, but exact length doesn't matter as long as it exists) then the server disconnects from the client with a message along the lines of "You have been logged out due to inactivity"
Third, create new worlds for the NA/EU data center(s). As it stands all but 2 worlds were completely full last night, and with the actual launch tonight those two will fill up within hours, if not minutes. With the number of people receiving Error 1017 and the fact that 23 of the 25 worlds are full, I would probably consider adding at LEAST 10 new worlds.
Finally, implement a way for players to move existing characters over to less populated worlds. Ideally this should also allow for group movement for people who are playing with friends and for professional gaming guilds who got broken up by the insane login and character creation limitations. This also needs to be FREE. It only needs to be in place and free for a week or so for the populations to balance out.
If SquareEnix did those things their congestion issues SHOULD balance out to the normal level for a MMO launch, but I can't promise that it will, or even that SE will actually do what is needed.
I'm in que omg!!!!
I'M IN!
Halle godamn lujah.
Try to see if you guys can log now.
I'm just a little dismayed about still having the 1017 error. Imagine what things are going to look like come tomorrow when everyone gets their boxes in the mail and the game hits the shelves. I don't expect to be able to play my CE tomorrow...
PLEASE KICK AFK PLAYERS OUT!!!!
ALSO PUT IN A FREAKING QUEUE FOR EVERY LOG IN ATTEMPT...
WHAT WE HAVE NOW IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!
Let's all spam their phones too does anyone have a number to call?
So, it's happening to me as well.... I managed to play a whoopin' 8 hours....
Now, I like this game; I've been playing since beta phase 2, and I managed to convince some people to come over but if I can't play with them, or they with me, it's not gonna be worth the sub. Now, mind you, I absolutely LOVE this game, and I was expecting *some* issues but nothing on this scale....
I just tried five minutes ago and it wouldn't put me in a queue.
I know Diabolos is heavily populated, but sheesh...
Yay i got in a queue finally wow now cross my fingers so i dont get kicked out
To those who have claimed that this is "normal" for an MMO launch, it most certainly is not!
Once upon a time this may have been true, but every single company that has had a bad MMO launch such as this are out of business and no longer around (with the solitary exception of Blizzard's WoW that definitely had a rocky launch yet somehow became the one-hit wonder/1000lb gorilla despite it all...but it is important to understand that they are a fluke that no one has been able to repeat in the MMO industry, so that is a rare solitary exception). With the MMO market so overly saturated with fierce competition there no longer remains room for Amateur-hour sloppiness as there once was in the mid to late 1990's. In the 21st century an MMO is expected to have worked out all the "game-stoppers" prior to the end of Closed Beta, and Open Beta is for final Stress Testing of your Hardware Infrastructure to ensure that it will be able to handle the increased load of "Land-Rush" at Official Launch. If it can't, then you use the data you accumulated during Open Beta to *LEASE* the appropriate number of extra *CLUSTERED* servers that you will need for "Land-Rush" (because after Land-Rush is over, you probably won't need that additional capacity and you certainly don't want to do Server Merges which are bad for many reasons). There should never be surprises or major game-stoppers at Launch, such as the inability to login to the game, because it is bad for customer satisfaction, loyalty, and publicity (all of which are critical as those first 90 days is critical to the financial success or failure of an MMO...especially when you consider that the average lifespan of a MMO subscription is only six months). That is how the professional Top-Tier AAA MMOs do business, knowing that in this day you have one shot with your MMO to make it, and there are dozens upon dozens of alternatives players can flock to if you fail.
If you think things are bad now, it is only going to get worse at "Official" launch. Square Enix isn't fixing the problem by limiting the number of logins. That is a temporary band-aid that is only going to make the problem significantly worse as things hemorrhage. If you can't login today, there is no way you are going to login in the next 30 days unless SE owns up and increases their Hardware Infrastructure to handle the increased load (hey, even just switching their Instance Service to use UDP instead of TCP would double it's capacity, just sayin').
The saddest part is that I really wanted SE to succeed. Their fan-base is obviously devoted to have given them a second chance. I was hoping to see them turn things around with ARR, but it appears they may have already blown it. How does that old saying go? Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice, shame on me. (Which is why the Japanese Servers aren't suffering the same fate as the NA/EU Servers...the Japanese are far less forgiving of mistakes and far less willing than Westerners to forgive and forget. They refuse to be shamed as SE had shamed themselves with the original FFXIV. As such, only the most otaku of the Japanese are playing, and the majority using the JP Servers are most likely NA/EU refugees.)
During P3 Beta I pre-ordered 3 copies of FFXIV:ARR (one for my gf, one for my daughter, and one for myself), of which none of us have been able to play after the first Early Access Maintenance. If Official Launch comes and goes and we are still unable to play we will be asking for Refunds and will go back to our usual MMOs where the worst that ever happens is nerd-rage over what class got nerfed the most, or whether such and such an item is lore-breaking.
This is plainly the most stupid thing I have had to deal with in a game. The lack of a que is just infurriating and I just hate this. I love the game I WANT TO PLAY but i'm blocked at every chance I have to play this thing.
bump for news on when this'll be fixed SE.
Do you even read your support forums? cause no one from support responds

THIS IS HOW I FEEL RIGHT NOW!
So I have been playing since phase 3 - I would really like to play with my free company on Hyperion. After About the 30th error 1017 I decided to make a new character on a JP server (I chose Tython because it reminds me of Star Wars :). I play for about an hour - log out and check hyperion - 1017 - log back in to Tython... This is what I have been doing for the past two days. Today my character on Tython has officially surpassed my character on Hyperion.
I have never had a problem logging on to a JP server. NO ERRORS! The reason - fewer players. I think that when all the NA/UK players figure this out and start playing on the JP servers and they start having problems - the NA/UK servers will get fixed! Don't wine about not being able to play - play on a JP server - flood them! Then they will fix the game!
ya so still getting the 1017 error on balmung two whole days now this is crazy
