Free Realms allows jumping at any time. Are people over using it to break the immersion? NO!
How long are you going to "investigate" things? AH, jump, chocobos how can so simple things be so damn hard for a big company like SE to do?! It's getting pretty ridiculous.
You asked us to wait for big changes coming soon, but that was before last Christmas! We HAVE waited and what have we been given in return for sticking with this game? Quest system that is an insult to any player's intelligence and a bake-sale sign for mobs instead of proper enemy placement to really address the issue of why one shotting happens so often in the first place.
free...realms... *dies*
Well Runescape is the game to beat... and that doesn't have free jumping. So I think FFXIV should be okay.
J/K
I sigh when I see stuff like this. Fair enough, I know some of you think all jumping does is allow jump spam as seen in WoW (even then, I don't understand why it bugs anyone). Do try to keep in mind that it might create some semblance of actual movement during NM fights and any future boss encounters. More mobility is not necessarily a bad thing and would be a nice addition, if properly implemented.
no it doesn't. It hurts Trolls who bitch about quest markers then a week after the update realized it did not make a lick of difference to your fake "video game immersion". same shit is gonna happen here. if "jump" breaks immerison then 80% of video games do not have immersion.
You sound silly
What? Unless there is some sort of jump-attack thing why would you want to jump around a NM? The engine is already finicky as it is, jump can't be implemented in a sensible manner. What will stop anyone from just jumping instead of walking?
No way, this is the worst thing i can imagine implemented. Possibly one of the few game-breaking additions for me. The game simply wasn't built for that. Unless SE wants to heavily edit locations to have platforms and such and make jump actually integrated in the game, i am as strongly opposed to it as i could possibly be.
WHY!!!!
How can ANYBODY br opposed to jumping!!!!! IT DRIVES ME CRAZY. EXPLAIN PLEASE!!!!
ALl your character does is go up for a second then comes down.
benefits could be jump over things that are in your way, jumping off cliffs instead of being stuck runnig at nothin (cause a warrior with a huge axe that is buff as hell and in shape would get stuck at a hill!!!!????? this is immersion!!!????) and lots of things in expan packs like getting to a fight by jumping from rock to cliff to the next area.
Oopposition ... immersion...... it breaks the feel of the game. (a game that has names above everyones head, fire balls coming out of peoples hands, etc!!???)
Its a weak silly argument.
they fixed that already by letting us walk through people. im talking about in Lisma when there is a cliff!!!! some cliffs you can drop down some you can not. If a jump button lets me drop without walking all the way around its a GOOD thing. that has nothing to do with collision detection.
Again answer the post buddy HOW IS JUMP BAD!!!
Yours also is a weak and silly argument.
Its weak because adding jump will NOT effect your gameplay but it WILL much it easier to get around to places. and YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE IT.
weak... silly...
Dear god how many times can you say "weak" in one post?
So I'm a troll for giving an alt. fix for jumping?
Yeah, nice logic there.
It's much more strange to "want" it so much...
In any case, if you read my post carefully i explain it. I don't believe it can be implemented properly by SE, aka it would be more of an annoyance than a benefit.
I'm not even sure they can let you jump down cliffs with ease without some sort of clipping or awkward movement as the engine is right now.
Then again, mine is only an opinion. If jump isn't implemented in the perfect manner it will break the game for me, so why would i not be opposed to it? I don't feel the need for it, yet it would ruin the game for me if it was implemented poorly.
Obviously i'd rather not run the risk.
I don't have any *jump* problems with jumping persay, but *jump* for some reason whenever *jump* people have the ability to jump *jump*, some people tend to *jump* do it constantly *jump* and it is both distracting *jump* and annoying *jump*. I love the *jump* freedom of mobility *jump* that jumping *jump* gives you, but the legions of *jump* children who can't seem *jump* to keep their hands off *jump* their spacebar *jump* kills it for me. *jump jump jump*
Invisible walls in a persistent world are more annoying than any bunnyhopper could ever hope to be.. even if he was botting the jump command.
Remove the walls, add jump, then move on to fixing what is actually wrong with the game.
Y DON THEY JUST MAKE A TOGGLE 4 JUMPING LIEK WITH DA AGGRO ICON
DUHHHHHHHHHH
Well, they could add both forms of jumps: a free form of jump (press a button and you jump) and an automatic jump when you get too close of ledges/obstacles (make it so it can be turned on/off, to prevent the annoying situation of jumping down or up when you are simply trying to walk to close to the obstacle). And for those who dislike the few bunnyhoppers we'll have: introduce a jumping filter. Jumps will not be displayed on your computer screen for other players if you enable this.
Simple, it pleases everyone, but would require some more work from the development team.
As for my personal preference, I much prefer a free form of jump: I press a button, I jump. Automated jumping doesn't give as much freedom as I'd like to have (be able to take screenshots while jumping at the proper location, jump somewhere hidden to play hide-and-seek with my friends, etc.) and, as I already mentioned, we wouldn't be able to walk close to obstacles anymore because it would trigger the jumping behavior (quietly walk around an enemy for example).
Hopefully we can get the decision from SE about this soon. :o
I don't understand the reasoning for so many people to be so adamant about not wanting Jump.
I think a simple compromise would be to have it a game mechanic based on in game stats that limit your jumps per minute.
Say you're a big roegadyn in full plate armor, make it so he can only jump like 3 times in a minute before a hidden fatigue gauge prevents him from jumping.
You're a Miqo'te pugilist who is nimble make it so she can jump like 12 times in one minute.
This would prevent the "jump jump jump jump" that so many of you fear, add a bit of realism to the game, and help reduce the feelings of your feet being magnetically stuck to the ground like I have.
Jumping is useless unless it has an actual use and some kind of restriction on it. Autojumping over a tiny ledge? That's perfectly fine as it's the main reason people should want to jump.
When people claim "it will let us explore more", not unless the world is designed to be thoroughly explored which the current world of FFXIV is not explorable beyond what we already see and know of the layout. If I recall yoshida said the possible implementation is going to be a compromise between "free" and maybe something like an emote as he knows theres a lot of people for AND against it.
I'd also like to add to this by saying one of the reasons people want jump is to get over tiny ledges or other things, and from how it sounds SE fixed most of that issue with this patch. I haven't tested how effective it is, but my LS mates have said they can get over ledges now without having to walk around them.
Are we forgetting a major system component here? The Stamina system? Make Jumping take a chunk of that away. simple. bunny-hopping solved. people certainly wont jump around while fighting with their stamina dropping heavily. make it take enough that at best you could perhaps do at most, 2 jumps after each other.
People say there's not enough world to be explorable by jumping. are we forgetting you can build on existing maps? why is was just this last update the dev team removed rocks from the world to make it easier to move.
Jumping has every right and possibility to be useful and increase immersion.
I also disagree with an ff13 jump feature. want to get to a camp with ledges in the way, set Auto-run and walk away and let your char deal with all the obstacles on their own while you go grab some snacks? no.
I'd love to see a free-form jump feature in FFXIV. It would add depth to the world while making it feel more tangible as well. Freedom of movement is a good thing. Yoshida has the right vision in this respect, and I'd like to see him test it out. Give people jump, wait a month, and I doubt that many players will be clamoring for it to be taken away.
you play/played free realms also? I do to now its on ps3. Fun game very nostalgic mini games. mario cart esk mini game ftw.
honestly I see like tons of ppl on this game. Barely anyone even jumps. And if your in a jump mood they have "playgrounds" for it. (which are kinda fun)
This is my first forum post ever, the reason I decided to post is due to this topic. D:
After the Ul'dah intro, I kinda feel the need of jumping...just being able to jump at all really...
freedom of movement... DENIED! ;_; B-But...I j-just..wanted to lift my feet from the ground..
Even if its not a normal jump feature, I would love to see something similar to the early FF jump features, those where it lets you jump in certain areas when you press a button/key....
Just jump of some kind...for starters... :/
I was thinking about this earlier, and realized there is a really great normalizer already built into the game: they could simply make it so that jumping drains your entire stamina bar, and you can't jump again until it refills.
I'd still rather have a Zelda-esque jumping system, however.
Good idea! :O Unless they do something similar to that or whatever, I agree with you on the Zelda-esque jumping system. :>Quote:

not to sound picky but.. zelda esk jumping kinda sucks. zelda esk jumps pretty much = run to cliff and you jump. what if I didn't want to jump? plus with camera angles you can get stuck in what is called a jump loop where you stuck jumping between 2 platforms.
and people can spam jump this btw...
but like I said you guys against stuff have no valod reason to hate the stuff you do.
And most of it is based on WoW. You hate WoW so much you will do anything to prevent anygame from turning into WoW.
WoW is a popular game... why wouldn't you want that? more players = more people to play with. the only thing bad is WoW is solo centric in some places.
which is why ffxiv turning into and not because of the game but the playerbase.
i suggest everyine against jump play a tomb raider game. we can have a game realm like that which does add challenge. minus the shooting of animals with guns and traps.
Free-jumping would kill the atmosphere of the game and take the "Final Fantasy" out of FFXIV.
I would hate to see everyone hopping around like frogs everywhere like some other games..
This is what I have been saying all along. Have jumping like FFXIII where there are highlighted hotspots to indicte an action or jump. It would make the XIV more interactive and easier to understand.
Anti-jump ppl would not have to have their fears realized by everyone jumping around obnoxiously. and Pro-jump ppl would get there new interactive abilities.
No you still can't jump anywhere, but it can be implemented in a controlled manner. This is good from a development standpoint because it can be tested easily and have less bugs in stake thst was not designed to have jumping in it in the first place.
Besides in patch 1.17 they made it so that low-Lying objects on the ground no longer cause collision. So those rocks pro-jumpers use is no longer an excuse now! Lol but yes those fences at Aeteryte points still force you to go around them instead of jumping over them. It's progress not perfection! ^_^
Boy thats distilliling the FFXIII feature down to it's bare essentials. It's unlikely there would be a series of jumPs lined up to achieve an autorun jump like you are saying.
I am for it simply for the ability to have more acrobatic jumps that are unique to the situation. Like somebody mentioned, the Miq'ote in Ul'dah animation. Backflips would be fun to see in game. They could also make individual animations per race so that each race would look correct when jumping. Because a Roegedyn doing backflips would just look silly.
if they did add jump it would be motion captured, just like the rest of the game's animations. so dont count on seeing flips and spins lol. it'd also have weight, and realism, jumps would be slow. hardly distracting. There would be delay, your character would crouch slighty, jump, and then land, and get their footing and balance back. this is not like WoW's "BOINGBOINGBOINGBOING" not only the jumps would take longer to perform, they wont be spammable, and most likely be tied to the stamina bar.
Immature frogs jumping everywhere aside, would that bother you THAT much to have free jumping?
I, personally, would be very pleased to experience a free jumping feature in Final Fantasy XIV. I don't feel like it would kill the Final Fantasy atmosphere, Final Fantasy is not Final Fantasy because you can't jump. Jumping has been seen in many previous Final Fantasy, in Final Fantasy VII's movie, and I believe would be a great new addition to Final Fantasy XIV. Of course, there was no free jumping before, but Final Fantasy is also about adding new things with each new titles. I feel it is time free jumping comes into Final Fantasy. And, on a final note, the traditional "non-jumping" design of old Final Fantasy was partly due to technology limitations (that's why then, even in Final Fantasy 1, jumping is in cut-scenes).
EDIT: Don't be mistaken, I, too, dislike immature jumping frogs. However, I much prefer dealing with these frogs than having shackles at my feet preventing more freedom in the game. Plus, I doubt we'll see many immature frogs in FFXIV, it is not open world PVP like WoW (people keep jumping mainly to evade other player's attacks).
i'm sorry. what final fantasy atmosphere is there to destroy? i dont see iconic Whitemages/blackmages or chocobos, i dont see airships, i barely even see many iconic FF monsters around that much - nowhere near as much as all these new mobs based on real-world animals, correct me if i'm wrong but i havent seen Cid around anywhere either. i think about FF as we have atm is the victory theme and a few monsters and that currency is named "gil"
I don't see what your point is.Quote:

"Because currently there are not "enough" iconic FF-esque things, jumping should be implemented in the future when these things are in place".
no my point is someone said it would ruin their precious Final fantasy atmosphere. lol when there's barely such a thing right now. yet they still play it and call it final fantasy and appreciate all the new things it's added to the "final fantasy atmosphere" regardless of how un-final-fantasy-ish it is, why is jumping any stranger.
