I feel like they took the leveling grinding aspect of PotD and the random item drops and zerg-rush-design of Diadem and put it in a bigger area.
It's kind of like they took the aspects from those two that could be likened to older MMORPGs but not the parts that were actually interesting, like PotD's randomness or Diadem 2's at least giving you some objectives to do to break up the grinding.
IF this does end up not being well-received, I really hope Yoshi-P isn't going to say something like "But you guys wanted the game to be more like XI and all the other older MMORPGs. We're just giving you what you wanted... >w> ".
I like eureka
Buut i hate how exp curve change when you get to lv 5 and trying to find a decent grinding group.
My group of friends hit Eureka for around 3 hours this morning and getting nearly to level 5. We enjoyed the content and the different approach to MMO style gaming. With our group of 8 pulling and thrashing mobs in different ways at different level targets was interesting in finding an efficient approach. Initially we started pulling more and more AE killing as many as possible. Which gave good crystal rates, but eventually resulted in poor XP gain. So we pushed to pull mobs ~3 levels higher than us killing only 2-4 at a time with single target focus, ensuring our chain continued. That was very efficient but a bit duller. Again, trial and error, dead tanks and agro flying all over the place made this an interesting experiment and looks to be initially fun if you are communicating with the other people in your group.
The problem is that we can't see ourselves doing the near 200 hours of grinding to get a full set of armor, which is sub-par to our current raid armor. The reward for the time investment is badly skewed. It just doesn't match up well. Likewise if you aren't on headset chatting with the other folks, this onsets very dull and doesn't function well either. Many of the groups were struggling to make any progress given how limited gains are with XP.
Last I'm very concerned at what happens in a week or two as friends try to form groups again only to find themselves +/- 5 or more levels apart? Its going to be zero fun to effectively not be able to play well with friends because our levels are all over the place. Given the requirements for XP grinding in here the differences in levels is going to be startling.
anyone notice that as more ppl went to complain on reddit, the more and more the hobo zerg outside the starting zones started to die out :P You can actually set up your camps atm without mindless throngs swooping in and tainting your XP :P
The drop rates apparently go up at higher level mobs, so you want to hit 20 then camp 20+3s or then you can do the lvl 20 zergs. at lvl 4-5 doing lvl 8-9 mobs the actual amount of proteans dropping as the chain went up was markedly higher.
to post below: I would say focus on getting your anemos relic weapon, then work on the other stuff for your "main" People seem to underestimate the 5 slots too that is alot of control over your secondaries. (still not better than savage gear though cuz, its not supposed to be "yet")
Eureka's problem isn't the actual content; it's that months of grinding will be rendered obsolete within months of attaining your goal.
Which begs the question -- what's the point?
Why bother, when you can progress your character to be ALMOST as powerful in significantly less time?
I'd rather play FFXIV and train for an Ironman than play FFXIV and grind in Eureka.
I have like 70-80% of the map open and I honestly saw no single new monster. Heck even the first NM was kinda just the re-used cactus from the hunts.
I do kinda wonder if those that enjoy it (and there is nothing bad with enjoying it) will still do that after having to grind that way for who knows how many ungodly hours. Because at first Diadem was kinda fun for me too but after a bit of grinding in it for minions and stuff I was more and more bored. Would be kinda interesting to see if people that enjoyed it after some hours will still enjoy it after they have finished their relic.
I tried for 1hr+ and honestly i'm not liking it. It kinda feels like i'm playing a free to play korean mmo game where you just mindlessly grind on monsters and that's all.
I might like this content if it was 6 years ago and still a student where i have lots of time to spent. But as a working adult with limited time to spare ugh the grind on monsters and hoping RNG smiles on you doesn't sit right with me. I rather do the grind from daily roulettes and have guaranteed but fewer crystal instead.
Will say this, i do not want em to "ignore" the forums. But i hope they pay attention to actual participation. Would hate to see this go the way of "steps of faith" because of the initial backlash from what might just be the vocal minority. Also this is meant to be a "on the side" way of gearing up, not the end all be all. If you can savage and are decent at it, then you should gear up that way. This is for those that want a different, grindy approach. (as i stated above if you "raid" id say at most, and at your pace, work on the weapon then the armor if you still feel like it)
Note: Do not mind if they "nerf" it overtime the same way they have nerfed the previous steps on relics before though.
I was almost 3 hours inside and it seemed too boring, just hitting things and waiting for drops Protean Crystal. Probably that's why they added a few things of glamor, minions and mount, so that the place will not die so quickly.
I do not bother the farmeo but it seems that they did not take into account that in this game, most of us work, study, have family or other things and the amount of time necessary to get things in Eureka is really excessive.
I think we'll have to go to The Feast :P
