Except then we'd have no way to switch to another data center. We'd be trapped if the current data center went down.

Yeah I've been trying to log in as well. At one point it let me into a queue but stayed 1 forever so I came back in. Then I stayed at 262 forever before after 30 mins it popper up a 2002 and closed out. The queue doesn't seem to be moving for me. I'll cancel it, start again and I'm magically in the same spot as before.
Keep receiving a 5006 login error when trying to connect to the primal data center. Tried restarting the computer and also switching to another data center and switching back, no luck, still receive the error over and over. Please fix this, thank you!
Unfortunately there's nothing to fix. It's pure congestion that the mass surge of players attempting to log in at the same time are creating. We're ddossing ourselves. Until the mass influx of player logins ebb, it's not going to get resolved. There was a dev post back some pages in this thread on it.
The more important question is why does Japan have three data centers and the entirety of North America only have two?
Ha just got home and getting 5006 error and I have to relog every time. So cool. Can't wait for the game to actually launch so it can be like this for a few weeks. Wjsh there was some action taken not just the same old "sorry lots of ppl loging in lulz" response.
It's going to be even more fun when the freebie people start cramming in too during the free login week. Could that have been picked to start at a worse time?
As far as this whole "stuck at the same number" bit, even during ARR's launch, I never saw the queue actually update the number it started at. I just took it as "this is where you were when you got into queue" to give a rough estimate as to how long it'd take.
Granted, on Sargas, the worst I've seen is in the 20's, and only takes about a minute to get in.
hehe, think this is bad, on the 23rd the welcome back program starts. Be happy cause many canned responses to these issues are on their way.
Dunno about everyone else, but as much as I love balmung and my guild, I'm hopping ship. With the welcome back campaign starting in two days this will go on well into a month, this is practically the beginning of the end. I really don't care about in game money, I'm losing real world money when I can't even log on with my sub and don't even have the ability to play anymore. If I have to switch to a different world so be it.
