Honestly I've healed Ex trials and savage raids with fairy on Sic and never had any problems. It really isn't necessary to micromanage your pet on SCH from what I've experienced. The AI is good enough. Sure you can be more efficient if you do micromanage but I never understood the complete *hatred* for those who leave it on Sic.

It's less that players use it as auto and more a combination of auto and not using scholar heal skills that's the issue. Players with their pets on auto and not using aldo, lustrate, succor, etc clearly aren't interested in actually being healers - and this is what I personally find problematic. While much of the game can in fact be played this way it would be more beneficial to queue times to remove the 2nd healer entirely and have another slot for dps.

It's because you lose the ability to adapt to situations and the AI will burn through the fairy's cd's at the worst times. Not to mention the fact that ppl will more than likely want to do harder content at some point and that's a terrible time to start learning your job. It is much easier to learn early so as to not burden yourself or others making your experience much more enjoyable. And did you play Sch on a deleted character, because you only have a lvl 1 arcanist and a lvl 15 Cnj

@ Lozza too, makes sense. I noticed my fairy will use abilities all at once but it never seemed like a big issue. Like I said, more efficient to micromanage for sure but it never seemed necessary. Of course if you have a healer that's bad anyway I doubt they will be able to micromanage effectively either. @ Tsubaki75 I've played all three healers at 60. Whm would have to be my favorite because holy spam is beautiful on trash pulls and Sch would be my go to for anything challenging because of its ease of use and godlike mp regeneration.

Sorry for off topic, I was just curious about the whole pet thing.

Just did a run of PoTD. It is a tank (yellow) me (red dps) and two other dps in the run. Right at the start one of the other dps ask if we mind to check the rooms for silver. I say I don't mind helping and the rest of the run goes very smoothly up until the Behemoth boss. I promptly die from not avoiding dumb stuff and I jokingly say "That was a series of dumb moves". The rest of them kill with no problem and then this happened with the tank:

at least ask before you just report and go off on someone. I kept the screenshot in case I get called into the principals office :o That will teach me to play before coffee. *edited to add that I tried to block out most of the word that they called me but I am sure you get the drift.

I've been reading everyone's Dun Scaith horror stories and I didn't think it'd happen to me for 2 runs in a row on two consecutive days :c

This is Party finder but I thought it was funny still.

I join a farm party for Ravana with my alt.

I need scripture for her Shire weapon and I'm only 115 away. I thought it would go fast.

The first thing that happens is we're stuck here waiting for someone to get out of the CS.

Newbie! XD Whatever! I don't think its cause for rage. Pull happens, and people are stacking marker and death is happening left and right.

I'm laughing. Its funny, really. So I go. "Such farm, much wow."

One of the other DPS reply. "Shut up."

So I reply "Get good"

They end up dying to bloody fuller, me and two other dps survive, and the other two go to stack... which I avoid because we're all low on HP, Ravana is close to dying, I figure it would be smarter to not stack.

The other two die, I survive a good bit longer, but in the end its a wipe.

XD We go back in, more silly stacking aoes, and death, but we clear.

Bird drops. I got it!!!

XD The person that told me to shut up left before the roll.

Fairly certain they were referring to the person who called her the 'b word', in which case, yes it most definitely is. Constitutes harassment and can net you without warning.

Joined a Dun Scaith run in-progress as my DRK for the anima light. We're up to the queen and I can see that this will either be a fast run, or one of many wipes. I see that a few others have left already, but it gets filled quickly. Other two tanks are WAR in DPS stance, so I 'naturally' go tank stance. Soon, though, we get someone trying to vote abandon. It doesn't go through, but then we get another one! That doesn't go through, and after my SCH Crit Adlo me, I charged in before anymore votes can go through. My healers did an exceptional job at not only keeping me alive, but our party, as well. During the adds, everyone followed mechanics and burned them down fast. We killed her and moved onto Diabolos. I stayed the MT so the WAR can max out damage, giving a quick description of what to do if anyone was new. I ran in and we plowed over Diabolos easy. 2nd phase was a little messy, but I held hate and stayed alive with awesome healers. After giving the commend to one of them, I would have gladly given it to both of them, as well as the rest of my party.

Speaking as someone who's played Triple Triad since FF VIII, you can have all the possible calculations memorised and still get screwed over by RNGesus. As usual.

Also FF VIII didn't impose a time limit on turns so it would be easier to learn.

What keeps a player from switching to below min ilevel gear once they're qued? Had a MNK in Sohm HM with 18k HP at the start and then 14k (no weakness buff) halfway through. I checked its gear and its eqipped with the Anitquated i170, NQ i120 hands, and DEX accs.

There needs to be a way SE can police this. Unforgivable.

It may be that he forgot to check his gear before entering the dungeon and it all broke. I've accidentally done that.. plenty of times as a healer and I'll throw on lower level healing gear.

Farming Venting Part 2: Sophia. Today has been extra special.

Log in, join a farm. It's a fantastic hot mess, but my co-healer is decent so we scrape through two runs with DPS not avoiding Thunder III, getting blown off by Aero and falling off during tilts with bad positioning, but after that everyone gives up.

Farm #2: We join, we go in, there's a bonus. It's the tank. "It looks easy, just tell me which add to take." Nope, no, a thousand times no. I just leave.

Farm #3: I set up my own PF. Explicitly state no bonus, no first timers. Fills up, in we go. Naturally, bonus message pops up! I ask who (because of course no one comes forward of their own accord.) It's the DRK. "I've seen a video -" No. Group agrees to get rid, we boot, back to PF. We get a second tank fairly quickly, and in we go again. The bonus message appears again, and with it my soul dies a little inside. No ones owns up to it, until one of the DPS points out the DRG has a Padjali weapon and Makai armor. DRG links a totem to prove it isn't him, but no one else seems likely. We boot, find a new DPS, come back in - the message is gone. DRG had lied and linked one of the other DPS' totems.

Finally, we start! It starts off well, no silly mistakes... then we get past adds, and it goes to hell. The NIN disconnects for the entire fight, DPS and my co-healer regularly fall off, half the group runs off and drops their meteors in the wrong place so a chunk of the groups gets annihilated, and another chunk gets blown off by Aero. I We pull through and bring it back, and we're at 1% when the enrage hits; I switch to Cleric, let loose an Assize and Fluid Aura and we just make it. The lanner drops. I'm beaten by 2 on a roll by the DRK who nearly wiped us with meteors. Half the group leaves, and the DRK decides to use this as an opportunity to grab the mount and run.

I hate people.

Been leveling BLM on another character in duty finder from 50-57 so far and I finally lost my Sh*t today and chose to drop.
It is very sickening when every single party I have been in has at least 1 if not 2 players that have underlevelled gear on (usually by atleast 5 levels or more). This last run in the Vault, our tank had a level 1 ring on... (not to mention, our ninja had lvl 50 gear on and did not have kiss of the wasp turned on nor used huton or anything. (Which is why I dropped after the first boss)

This last run aside, while leveling up, every single Bard I have encountered from 52 onwards NEVER uses Wanderer's Minuet and not one of them so far has sang a song (except one bard that used Swiftsong but nothing else...) This grates on me immensely because I consider BRD my main job, and its very disheartening to see people playing it so poorly. Wanderer's Minuet increases your dmg dealt by 30%, and Sure, it turns you into a caster class... BUT without it you barely do any dmg at all, and if your not gonna turn it on, atleast play me a Foe Requiem so I can make up for some of your lost DPS....

Getting over some tankxiety (since it's been a while since I've tanked anything), and started tanking Dun Scaith today (off-tank, as I need to level my PLD one more level for Awareness this evening in the event I end up MTing Diabolos Hollow; I just dislike PLD so much). Anyways, not that bad. Actually kind of fun. Plus, getting some light for my relic. I was actually enjoying myself.

Minus the healers that refuse to heal me when I pick up Scathach's add, forcing me to Living Dead. Or follow me into the middle door for Diabolos Hollow when the third tank is dead and very obviously can't go in themselves. So thank you, healers from the other alliances for keeping me up.

Of course, one of the healers we had was too busy nit-picking everything their co-healer was doing (which it seemed to be that person's first time healing Dun, so advice is fine, but at least be nice about it). Though, they were in full Alexandrian with the weapon as well, so I guess that means they know more than us lowly scrubs who haven't cleared A12S. :rolleyes:

Wiped to Ferdiad Hollow for the first time today as well. People changed the puddles to fire while we had Fire Resistance Down. LOL. Thank goodness I was on DRK and had Dark Mind. I was one of three people left standing in our alliance, the other two being a MNK and DRG with 2k health left. Most everyone was raised, but we didn't have enough to clear the DPS check so. My only reaction was just to start laughing.

Trash smn in expert. Sohm hm. No dots for the first half of every pull. Would only use tridisaster to apply dots on first boss. Then let them fall. Dies to boss. I mentioned the dots "oh i forgot" oh ok let's continue. Next trash pull, 8 mobs, ruin 3 spam, no dots. Till he's half out of mana. Finally uses dots near the end. Tries to convince me he used them earlier, without getting dread stacks, so, nope. No shadow flares either. At all. Was convinced ruin 3 was better than bliz 2, even though 6 mobs are up. Dies to second boss as well. Calling me a r**ard for knowing more than him. Final boss. No dots for a long time, ruin 3 tridisaster. Ruin 3 till oom literally. .. he had 250 mp.. no stacks.... what does this genius do? Yup pops raging strikes. Tell him dots are priority not spamming ruin 3 till oom, and to take advice instead of being argumentative, "you know what? Go f**k yourself". healer top drops on final boss he has the gall to ask if he can have it and sits out the loot timer.

Running Aery for Anima weapon and get pared with a Dragoon. He's level 56, all of his gear pieces are grey level 50 basic goon gear. No big deal. Except I start to notice right away that he has a pattern. Never once uses Heavy Thrust as an opening. The ONLY attacks he does is the jump attack and spear throw. Dungeon is going incredibly slow but I'm DPSing and just watching the Goon. Make polite comments a couple of times about rotation. Come to bosses, he stays away from the boss and just throws his spear over and over, waits for jump to be available, and then runs away again. Dodging most AoE's pretty well, occasionally approaching but never much. Get to final boss, he's just attacking from afar. Warn him about his rotation one more time. His fear of approaching mobs causes us to wipe on final boss. Vote kick successful. Ninja joins and we kill the boss in record time.

Mine has been a string of bad tanks lately that have me seriously wondering what's going on with the ones coming up the ranks lately.

I mean I was with a DRK the other day that could not hold agro on a 6-10 mob and I was just like... wow... never seen that before. Couldn't even hold agro on a 3 mob spawn, I was just dropping my jaw. Most DRKs I worked with can EASILY handle that many and never lose control, not once.



I'm already looking at the Tank who is only pulling one spawn point at a time with apathy.

As a Summoner I just look at it and go... man, is that even worth my time to go into Dreadwyrm for? What a waste. At least pull two spawns worth of mobs, I promise I can wipe them out real easy ;).

I've just had this wierd string of tanks lately that can't even hold agro on even 3 mobs, let alone the 6-10 mobs I can handle. One cast and they're all over the healer or strung out between me and half the field.

I'm just sitting there going... dude seriously gather that crap up... I'm waiting for you to get your house in order so I can wipe them out. But I can't do that if you can't lock them down. But no, just sits there whacking on this one mob.

The REAL tanks I'm used to working with are holding a good 6-12 mobs at a time and I'm just wiping them out as a Summoner... and then there's these other guys... the ones who seem to think this one mob is more important than the others running all over the field and wreaking havok. (One a newbie in Balthar's Wall, handled that like a pro)

The Paladin I ran with in Sohm Al Hard today, did lose control once... but ONLY once... but damn, after that he started seriously locking down those mobs. Thats a real tank...

But some of these other guys lately have me wondering how in the heck they got to that level.

I decided to do expert before bed... Not a good idea at all. I was so tired that I somehow had a lvl 50 book equipped, and kept forgetting to take cleric off before healing. Luckily, it was a premade and we just laughed.

I hate Aurum Vale. It has annoying mechanics and, more often than not, whenever I land in there, it's with some obnoxious brat who's undergeared and doesn't know how to play their job, demanding a full clear(carry) because "i wnt 2 gt 2 50".

But lately, amazingly, I find that I'm beginning to hate the Aery even more than Aurum Vale. Because, again, more often than not, if I'm tanking the Aery(which has been the case in all my Aery runs lately), DF decides to stick me with undergeared, dumbass healers and DPS who got carried for 55 levels without learning the first thing about their job or thinking they could get away with being carried.

A SMN who had the gall to queue for this with an ilvl 41 white NPC weapon. A WHM who kept spamming Cure III even after being explicitly told that it heals less than Cure II. A BLM who spammed Fire III, and when called out on it, tried to pretend they'd been using the proper rotation the whole time. Another SMN and BLM who simply refused to break people out of Nidhogg's Sable Weave, despite having wiped to this 5 times already.

And yeah, that's simply what happens when you're a tank in the Aery, saddled with these useless deadweights. You wipe, and wipe, and wipe again, getting blamed the whole time, all while not being able to do a thing about it because these idiots keep messing up simple mechanics they should know by now. And this is why people just don't want to tank anymore.

I am getting so tired of a) tanks not stacking adds in alliance raids and b) white mages who cast Medica II precisely at the pull or when a phase ends and tank needs to taunt

Oh man, I try so hard not to do that while healing, but every once and awhile I'm tired or cast Medica 2 and glance at the Boss' health right as it's casting and realize "oh crap he's about to phase change! NOOO!" and then stand there feeling shitty while the tank has aggro problems.

Zurvan Ex Clear. already has a tank and after spending ages farming light for dps i didn't really wanna do that so i went scholar..

party queued in started went pretty well. 2 dps borked the southern cross and got half the group killed then failed the dps check on the adds.... the dps denying all responsibility for the mess up..

second attempt starts well things go quite well 2 of the dps go right on southern cross with the tank then get cleaved and killed failed the broken seal... the 2 dps then raged at the tank for going the wrong way despite the fact that the other 5 people in the party all went left and survived..

one of em quit got a rep. queud again got right the way down to about 7% i missed my circle for broken seal. kill half the group and wipe. tank is getting blamed again dps saying he's useless..

not one person apologised to the tank or anything and no one said anything when i said it was my screw up...

4th attempt people couldn't even get the soar done to many overlapping circles...

half the party disbands.. the ast asks how far I've been oh I've cleared this, then asks how they're doing.were they doin enough. honestly doing pretty good, hadn't noticed them make many mistakes... tank asked for a few pointers, i just told them how i rotate cooldowns on adds.. they weren't doing a bad job even if the dps had been blaming them...

bout 10 mins later group fills back up... now i find i'm the only one in the party with a clear and seem to have been elected leader um ok... so i offered a couple of quick things for broken seal. if your tether is tanks color go behind the boss if its opposite take a flank each... then head to nearest colors clockwise... cos in the previous runs i'd seen both tethers head to same circles and almost not make it...

go in make it to the seals. the southern cross vanishes so i go to zurvans right the dps I'm tethered to follows me, the other blue guy goes to zurvans left and the guys hes connected to follows him..looking good.. mechanic done flawlessly...second time i iwas tethered to the tank but one of the colours went left again and the others went to zurvans right.... 2/2

demons claw wave cannon etc, broken seal 3/3 executed flawlessly... shortly followed by victory...

got a blm staff ill never use but no one wanted lol

After our 4th wipe to Ozma after the same 2 people in my party couldn't grasp the concept of "if you get the dark ring, run clockwise" I now have at least 4 new hilarious ASCII macros to add to my list of "fail" responses.

Had to leave though, since our party didn't want to remove or vote abandon, so left 'em to it.

Ugh, did my first-ever Dun Scaith last night. The run definitely didn't go perfectly; there were many revives needed across the groups, and a couple of full wipes, but I have no complaints about that. It's just the snotty, hostile attitude so many people had.

Our other healer was the worst. It started with him falling off the boat in Deathgaze, and me not reviving him fast enough for his liking. To be fair, it was my mistake that I assumed that somebody who fell off could not be brought back mid-fight, like in some other encounters (I even tried to once, though in retrospect perhaps I was just too far away). But he then makes this sarcastic comment, like "Hey Friel, did you queue as heals just to AFK or are you gonna rez me?" Then he calls out to the whole raid, telling them I'm incompetent and somebody else needs to revive him.

From then on, the trash talk just gradually escalates, all across the raid, any time someone missed a mechanic or failed to dodge. I don't know what it is with the three-party raids in this game, where people seem to think their party is in competition with the others -- almost like they want another group to fail, so they can have the "glory" of wiping and blaming someone else.

Needless to say, I disapprove of this crappy behaviour in any circumstance -- but if you're going to throw shade around at others for being less than perfect, could you at least demonstrate some skills, yourself? It was that other healer in my group, and one of our DPS, who were the most actively trolling and complaining by far, yet they were also the ones dying the most. I'm not saying I was above reproach myself, but if we're gonna compare skill level, I pulled my weight a lot more than they did. I can't count the number of times I had to pick up those clowns from off the floor. I was thinking "How the hell do you have time to type these remarks, in the middle of a fight?" But of course, any time I glanced over at the other healer to see what he was doing, he was just standing there at full MP, not casting anything. Oh. That's how. Even during that phase of Diabolos, where all that's happening is everyone destroys the gates -- he didn't cast a damn thing, wasn't even in Cleric's Stance.

I didn't engage in any of the comments myself during the run; I had enough to do, and it just wasn't worth it. Though I did crack a bit afterward, and said "Thanks to everyone who wasn't a sociopath." And of course that crap healer chimes in again, "Ha ha you rolled need on gloves you don't need." Like, really? The dungeon's over. It's late Sunday night. I don't even care, I'm not running this again before server reset, I'll roll on what I can roll on. I don't even think all the loot rolls had been tabulated, I just wanted out of there. Even to the bitter end, some people just have to reach for any small, pathetic excuse to antagonize.

I never want to hear "FFXIV has the nicest community" ever again. We have players every bit as childish, petty, and toxic as any other... they're just packed into Dun Scaith, apparently. I guess that's something, at least.
