How would an optional, official parser be toxic?

If a parser is used in any way to correct another player, it is no longer a personal parser. You understand this, right? If you think tossing out facts exempts condescending/toxic behavior, you are also mistaken. That's not the way this game, or the world works.

A parser in itself is not toxic because it just shows facts and facts are never toxic.
Toxicity occours when facts get handled between people and how the facts get formed and transfered.

So the solution would be to shut down the game and exterminate humanity to prevent toxicity.

You still can. Alphascape isn't that much harder than its predecessors. It's simply a shock because no one expected it to actually have teeth since Delta and Sigma basically fell over. That doesn't excuse people from refusing to put forward an effort. No one is asking for Savage tier, orange percentile bis, they're asking you do basic mechanics and your rotation. Fortunately, I haven't only had to kick one person in my 20+ runs of O11N. And I kicked them purely because they weren't healing me (MT) at all.

Because the assumption typically thrown around here is people aren't toxic without a parser and suddenly would become such if we were allowed to discuss ACT openly. And that simply isn't true as evident by numerous examples. People who are toxic find ways to spew their rhetoric without the need of a parse. Those aren't, will not abruptly turn into assholes because they can see your DPS.

Nor is this an individualistic game. If I have a Monk in my party pulling only 3,500 DPS while every other DPS is well beyond 5,000. They're contributing almost half as much to the overall group. Why isn't I be able to point that out? It isn't toxic to say, "Um, Monk? What's going on? Your damage is really low." If they feel otherwise, well, too bad. It's inconsiderable they join an EX Suzaku party and expect everyone else to carry them through because they can't be bothered to learn a proper rotation. Frankly, I find that attitude far more toxic than the example I gave.

From personal experience, the lowest DPS are usually the most toxic so I'd argue... A parser would actually reduce toxicity. Can't talk about DPS when tanks and heals are burying you on the meters.

The game just has no real way to show dps players they aren't playing to a reasonable standard...


We could bring up stone, sky, sea...
That is about the best the devs have put in to show how well a player is performing.

But, it lacks in feedback.
It's a binary pass/fail.
And it's optional.


There's little to no incentive for people to participate in it.
I believe it is supposed to be tuned to show if someone is ready for a piece of content or not.

Perhaps if sss was required to be passed to enter content...
True there's no mechanics to them...
But, if they can't manage the dps check on the dummies without mechanics, then they certainly can't pass the check while dealing with mechanics.

But, I suppose we can't have the game tell people they need to get good to participate...

Parser in savage and ultimate is very welcomed. It's not fun carrying deadweight and see them roll 99. You don't pay others' sub so when you find out you should get good, you probably should and don't waste people's time. Content other than those just w/e.

There's actually a serious problem with this.

Let's say its a new tier. It requires you to beat a gatekeeping battle that's harder than SSS (because a lot of people think the dummies aren't a good measure. So maybe a mock battle or something.)

One guy beats it on day one, and gets to work on the tier because he's a good player who already raids.

One guy can't beat it at all, and stops raiding.

One guy takes a week to beat it.

The problem though is the last guy is going to be delayed enough that it might matter for progression. The weaker or newer they are, the harder it will be to find people. I mean, the people who beat it day one will be ahead of them and less likely to get newbies because finishing later my be a sign that you had issues with the dps check. It might be more of a discouragement than people think. It's add more teeth to the "two week problem," that it's harder to progress in stuff 2 weeks after a patch.

I suppose the sss dummies for content could be released some time prior to the actual content release.
It's not like there's much to spoil apart from an idea of what the devs think the dps requirement would be.
