So, why isn't this a thing yet?

I thought this discussion was about someone wanting to be able to play a young adult character like Harry Potter in MMOs, which I found to be an interesting topic, considering the prevalence of young adult characters in fantasy (the Monomyth,"coming-of-age" tales, etc.) yet the lack of them in fantasy games.

I guess I was way off the mark.

Paedophilia is a very sensitive topic for obvious reasons. For the great majority of the human race, there's a strong biological urge to protect children, and this particular crime is one which by its very definition targets children. Because of this, extremism and overreactions are commonplace - particularly on the Internet, where trolls are plentiful and Poe's Law is commonplace.

The implications that folks who enjoy their animu waifus are just waiting for their chance to leap on a real-life child are frankly nonsense. If you were to present such people with a real example of child rape, the vast majority would be as sickened as anyone else would (and the minority who aren't would be no larger a percentage than any other group). There are plenty of folks who are perfectly at ease sitting through a Saw movie who would lose their lunch if they were to see any of that happen to a real person. Enjoying the fantasy does NOT equate to enjoying the reality. It doesn't even indicate a tendency.

Even if we are willing to categorize such people as actual paedophiles though, how are they actually harming anyone? No children are harmed in the production of loli and shota erotica. Until such an individual actually begins performing criminal acts against real children, there's nothing to worry about. Some might claim that the existence of these kinds of materials "encourages" people to go out and try the real thing - but this is the same kind of hysterical nonsense that got Jack Thompson rightfully laughed off the bar during his crusade against "murder simulator" video games.

Crusading against people because you perceive they MIGHT perform criminal acts against children someday is the worst sort of witch hunt. Save the anger and hatred for the actual criminals.

There's no law, because pedophilia isn't illegal. It's a psychological ailment. Child pornography and child molestation are illegal, but they are crimes generally committed by pedophiles.

The fact of the matter, as Sam has pointed out several times now, is that creating a race that is quite obviously modeled after children will only encourage pedophilic behavior. Especially if they're able to sexualize said race. And no, just claiming that "the members of this race are adults and X number of years old, yet they look like children" is not acceptable. That would be the exact same as showing a picture of child pornography and saying, "Let's just pretend she's 18".

The main thing to remember is that by western standards "being attracted to anyone 5 years younger than yourself" is considered morally abhorrent, much in the same way gay marriage is seen by some (which Gay Marriage is now legal in the US as of an hour or so ago.) There are a smaller fraction of people who see nothing wrong with being attracted to people 3 times their age. It's just weird, but not wrong.

The Legal implication, for age-of-consent doesn't apply to characters being played by adults. If two 30 year old players play 10 year olds online, and do adult things... that is still two 30 year old players who understand consent. The age-of-consent laws exist because while 12 year olds may certainly understand consent, they are still children and are vulnerable to adults who may take advantage of them through social engineering. Look at how many pedophiles come out of churches and schools. This is because these adults spend so much time around children in a position of trust, that at some point the Adult loses sight of that trust. Sure maybe some students do have a crush on their teacher, but it's the teachers responsibility as an adult to not take advantage of their position.

So if you think the picture above is cute, you're just human. There is nothing wrong with cute things. Now if it were possible to play the children in the game, it would not devalue the game, but it may require changes to the storyline to account for age.

Waitaminute... by your own logic, then, we SHOULD have child characters in this game, so that paedophiles are given a harmless outlet for their psychological issues and will be less likely to resort to less savory outlets. Which side of the discussion are you on, anyway? XD

Mind you, I'm not invested one way or the other about adding child player characters to the game, but neither do I think that doing so would plunge the game into a dark age of pedo ERP. It's as silly as imagining that allowing male characters more cross-dressing options would turn the world into a drag festival.

You could have contributed differently to this discussion, expressing your concern about certain clothing pieces and suggesting that they can be remodeled, much like what happens with some glamour pieces when worn by lalafells. there are laws in place that are in reference to having child porn, but said laws exclude animated(3d is cutting close)/print, as it has no bearing on reality. it hasnt stopped people from trying to charge others of having child porn, but yea. its there.having a child like race does not automaticly mean it will promote the behavior you say it will, as there is no direct proof of this.

also, there is no "lets pretend she/he is 18", at least legally. if i made an original doujin and it had a a chr that looked underaged, but is stated to be over a certain age(also known as word of god(as the creator of said thing, i am its god, a bit silly)) you, as a reader or critic dont get to nitpic and ignore what has been decided.
as for the outlet part, are you going to include everything that is illegal/sick? this would include tankobons with people getting killed,zoophilia,corophilia, body modification, brain draining, ryona, cbt, and other things like them? oh wait, none of those are illegal in drawn form because they have no effect on living people. for something to be illegal it has to have some kind of impact in reality.
